Tic Tac Dough (CBS, Syndication), "Crazy Fun"

  • This video collage that I made is from the game show, "Tic Tac Dough" that aired on CBS from July 3, 1978 to September 1, 1978. The Syndicated version ran from September 18, 1978 to May 23, 1986.
    The hosts were:
    Wink Martindale (1978-85)
    Jim Caldwell (1985-86
The theme song (supposedly) is called "Crazy Fun" by Hal Hidey.
From 1:21 to 2:00, the following 7 pictures are of Thom Mckee, the biggest winner on Tic Tac Dough who won 43 straight games for a grand total of $312,700 back in 1980 (today, those winnings back then would be nearly a million).
The status of the CBS version is uncertain. It is believed to have been destroyed (except the first four episodes), but the syndicated run with Martindale, and later Jim Caldwell, is intact and currently held by Sony Pictures Television/CBS Television Distribution. Reruns from the Martindale run aired on CBN in 1984 and on the USA Network, while reruns of the Martindale and Caldwell runs appeared on GSN (The Game Show Network). Martindale reruns also appeared in prime-time on WOR-TV New York in the mid 1980s, starting with the first syndicated episode.

    You're welcome!
Well, I don't know if I'm a genius. I maybe far from it.
All I did was collect pictures from the internet from most of the game show websites, put it through Windows Movie Maker and then added the music to go along with the video collage. If there were pictures from a certain game show, I would add the game show theme to it. That all I did.

Actually, I think Chuck's in his 60's, and I believe he's admitted that leaving Wheel of Fortune was a mistake on his part.
BTW, lets not forget that Bob Barker was 83 when he retired as host of the Price is Right.

I sure did, he still has that nice and unique personality, and plus, I saw him on the Most Ourageous Game Show Moments 1 with his close friends Peter Marshall, Jim Lange, Bob Eubanks and special guest Ben Stein and when the show was over they did The Traditional Dating Game Kiss and afterwards they were all nice enough to sign autographs.
It was a nice thing to witness that on TV and that was so nice of Wink and the guys to do so.
and I happend to have that on tape.
    God Bless Winker!

The best Tic Tac Dough host was Wink Martindale, hands down! he could eat Jim Caldwell and Patrick Wayne for breakfast and spit them out! The Good: Tic Tac Dough 1978-85. The Bad: Wink left to do his own show with Merv Griffin called "Headline Chasers," which was pretty good, but TTD rocked along with The Joker's Wild!

I personally think him leaving the show was a mistake. Headline Chasers wasn't successful at all and without him, this show went downhill quickly. And aside from High Rollers, Trivial Pursuit and Dept, he really hasn't had much success with other shows afterwards. I sometimes can't help but wonder if this show would still be on today with him hosting it (like with Pat Sajak on Wheel of Fortune and Alex Trebek on Jeopardy until he passed away).

@DorvellTStewart I had heard that Al Roker and Tom Bergeron were seriously considered for "Price Is Right", but Roker couldn't get out of his contract with "The Today Show", and Bergeron couldn't get out of doing "America's Funniest Home Videos". Drew Carey was supposedly the producers' third choice.
