Much respect for the care you give your animals. I totally agree with your philosophy about raising and then butchering your own animals. You know they are raised with a good life and are treated with the utmost care. They fulfill their mission in life by feeding your and your family. We do that also. Chickens and pigs. We had a 3 cows and they were called T-Bone, Porter House, and Ground Round.
Anyone that actually watches your videos can tell you are an animal lover! I hope you ignore the naysayers and keep the videos coming.

I think it is wise to raise your own meat. You know what is in their feed. Plus I honestly believe this is the way it was meant to be. Relying on God and yourself. Not Anyone else.

Love the way you treat your critters. They're much, much betterr off than animals on factory farms!
Folks know that They care for their animals like they are family. they make sure that they eat well, have shelter from the weather, they are not over crowded and have more than ample space that is well kept and clean! There is a circle of life with everything and these animals have a better life than many children sadly. If i were an animal i would beg to live on their land and be taken such good care of by them even if I knew the end outcome! Living would be like the equivalent of A 5 star hotel to humans! That being said THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR YOUR ANIMALS AND THE LAND!

Since we don’t, we support our local farms. We have chickens but not larger animals. But we love supporting our local farms. Wherever you live,search them out. So worth it. I love watching your channel. My husband and I raise our own Cornish Cross, Orlopp Mammoth Bronze turkeys and Red Wattle/Idaho Pasture pigs, for meat. Our first year raising pigs. Named them Nyx, Alvida and Lady Porkington. Taking them to the butcher on Monday July 22nd. I'm like you. I treat all the animals the best way possible. Like pets. I've grown close to my pigs. They get all the belly rubs. I truly love them. It'll be a tough day. Our pets are 1 ball python, 3 dogs, 1 cat (we need barn cats, too), 9 mice, 2 rats, 2 turkeys (Bourbon Red hen and Blue Slate tom), 50'ish egg layers and 12 roosters. Happy homesteading! 🙏🏻❤️

Always have a non electric backup. Practice and develop it to near perfection. If you can't live without electricity things COULD get out of hand if the situation arrives.
My cows and horses will stay in wire with no power, we’ve done it many times to move them around, ect, pigs and calves are a different story. The Holstein has one more chance or he’s getting wheels put under him, we won’t have that here…
@@TrueGritAppalachianWays yep. Lights, water, processing equipment, cook stove. You should be able to do your own wood and metal work. Now I m not saying you can't or don't do these things, but, you LL need to. My Grand fathers were born in the 1890 s and they thought it was a joke to worry about not having electricity. I want to say I have huge respect for you and your family. I am disabled. If I wasn't, I would raise and butcher my own meat. People don't realize how terribly the animals are treated before ending up in the grocery store. And they don't have a clue how tasteless grocery store meat is. You truly honor your animals and the meat they provide you with. I respect that.

Gen 1:24-31. God created all, and gave man dominion over all. those animals are treated (with treats and rubs, pun intended 😊) so much better then the history of those that end up in the grocery store. those that have a problem with your scenario are loyal to a system they do not understand. The horses have the best job...to make you happy. I got my mare when she was 4 yrs, and she was 30 when she passed away. She was my happy place. So neat our stories are similar.

Yes it is neat! He brings me so much joy and it’s scary how much we understand each other ❤️ I will be sad when his day comes but I’m so glad he is here and gets to be loved by my kids just like he’s always been loved by me ❤️

Great video! Really enjoyed meeting your animals. I grew up on a farm and we had our own meat, plus venison. I have raised many a bottle calf. My grandpa would buy a couple for my brother and I. We would raise them and when we sold them, we got the money. We also had a milk cow. There is nothing you can buy in the store that compares to home grown meat, milk and butter. I loved going to the stock market at Mt. Airy, Wytheville and Statesville. It was a full day adventure. Hope you have a great weekend and God bless.

I agree with you Meagan. The good Lord put all these plants and animals here to be used.Everything utilizes what is around them not just people. I would much rather know my meat and vegetables are grown in what I believe are normal circumstances than being raised under crowded conditions...believe me , I worked in a feed lot for a while.
I do a milk share. The raw milk is awesome. The best.
God put those animals on the earth for us to take care of and use as well. Raised on a farm. ,, retirement now but my children raise their meat . And it is delicious just like God ment for us !! Enjoy your time

I remember the first time I ever walked into a commercial chicken house, I turned around and ran out the door choking from the dusty dander and smell.
No way I'd keep or eat animals like that.
Cattle and hog lots are nothing but funky filthy too.
Folks have poked fun at me on account of treating animals with a what I call a modicum of decency.
Why on earth would a body want to raise unhealthy animals to slaughter for your table???
The reason commercial animals are dosed so heavily with antibiotics and no telling what else is because they're raised in absolute filth and need to be treated for diseases that could wipe out the whole flock/herd and potentially infect humans, but they still infect you with other things too.
The whole animal, the parts you don't see at the grocery store, have two beaks, three legs, can't stand, all kinds of defects and physical ailments.
To produce healthy meat for your table, you have to replicate the animal's natural diet as close as possible.
Everybody thinks scratch corn is the best thing for chickens, when in fact, scratch corn was always a last resort choice of the poor folk because it was cheap enough to get the flock through the winter, and then they'd free range once spring come, but now folks shove that stuff down their gullets like they were made for each other.
Chickens need assorted seeds, grains, greens, vegetables and a boatload of insects daily.
It shouldn't kill you to grow some extra rows of kale for chickens that provide you with healthy meat and eggs.
Insects ain't as easy to come by as it sounds, but still necessary.
To properly provide for chickens you need your own worm farm or system of collecting from your property, as well as other insects.
Meal worms are common but you've gotta be cautious about where you get your original stock from because they feed them crazy things they ought not be eating too just to make a dollar.
Some folks raise crickets too, but they ain't that healthy compared to others.
Beetles are good, depending on your chickens as to what kind they like to eat, and where you live.
You can actually collect all kinds of bugs and beetles by walking a recently bush hogged field, or even a yard, just carry gloves, a hand rake and a burlap sack to get the nests that get kicked up, but be sure and start hunting right behind the tractor or the beetles and bugs will find another spot to build a nest.
Placing old sheets of plywood and boards flat on the ground will collect worms and insects underneath, and you can either collect them yourself and add some to the ones you're raising, or you can just flip the boards and allow the chickens to gorge themselves buffet style.
I use both methods, rotating the days each board gets turned over accordingly.
Either way, them chickens need them bugs and stuff to get protein and calcium in their diet.
Give all of your garden greens to your chickens, not just specifically kale or something similar, but the green parts you cut from vegetables when you prep food, they love them, and crush up your egg shells and let them pick from meat from kitchen bones to give them extra calcium and strengthen their shells too.
Out of all of the grains in the world, if corn ain't the least nutritious, it's real close.
There are so many other grains that chickens like that are way better for them, not as cheap, no, but better for you in the long run.
Sunflowers can be a treat for them to scratch through and pick out the seeds, and believe it or not, it helps with their mental health.
Healthy chickens need an assortment of grains, not just one, and scratch corn should only be added as a filler in winter.
Some grains might be hard to find in bulk locally, but you can get it shipped easily nowadays, or some times you can get your local supply to order it for you.
Even if you're in a position where you can't afford to your chickens anything but scratch regularly, you should have mixed grains to feed them once a week, or even once a month.
Some folks say keeping chickens ain't worth it, on account of eggs being so cheap, not where I live, but there's other ways of making money from chickens.
Back in the 1970s we sold chicken manure for $1 a bucket, what you can get for it in your own area will vary, but charge at least $5 a bucket, you can even make deals with local farmers, depending on the size of your flock, or you can fertilize your own fields, just don't burn your plants.
I mentioned that on account of back in the 70s, I was the one in charge of the chickens, which meant feeding, collecting eggs, slaughter, reproduction, cleaning and upkeep of roosts and coops, selling manure and making feather dusters, all starting from the time I was old enough to walk and carry a little bucket at the same time and had mastered all of it before the age of eight.
And looky there....., raising chickens has another advantage, it teaches younguns how to tend animals properly, instills a good work ethic because it's a 24h/d, 7d/w, 365d a year job, teaches them one aspect of providing food for the family table, teaches younguns how to judge what is fit to be sold or kept, teaches them how to make things with their own hands, and teaches them how to manage money, among other little lessons along the way.
It gives younguns a great deal of pride knowing they've helped put something on the table.
Great amount of advantage to raising chickens right.
But all animals have advantages.
And just because you eat meat, that doesn't make you some kind of mindless, bloodthirsty brute, you're just not in a food cult like them vegetarians are, and you're better off, since all of them cult diet folk are malnourished, anemic, or have some other physical ailments on account of it.
Lots of reasons to raise your own food, but the most important one is that you'll be feeding your family food that hasn't been contaminated, modified or mishandled.
This is one of them "don't get me started" subjects, in case you didn't notice.
Just so you know....
Horses provide companionship, they provide transportation, they can work on farms in harness, they provide entertainment and they make for some pretty impressive scenery, they pay for themselves.

A small family farm is the most humane way to feed people. Plant based diets are nutritionally deficient; dump tons of pesticides (killing the birds and bees), and depletes soils.
It's sad people think meat just comes from a store. The horses are gorgeous!! I am curious if you trim their hooves or pay someone. We're thinking about mules (hennies really), but aren't sure if it takes a specialized skill and years of training to properly care for their hooves.
