HP PAVILION DV6 DV6-6117DX take apart video, disassemble, how to open disassembly

  • Hi!
No music. No talking. Just work.
If you are taking your HP PAVILION DV6-6117DX laptop apart be careful and wear an anti-static wrist band or use other anti-static device. If you need to change a LCD usually you don't have to take screen out of a laptop. You can leave it on a laptop and watch the last part of the video where I am taking LCD apart. If you need to change a keyboard, you don't have to take all bottom screws out. There are usually some marks, like a keyboard picture, on a case bottom. If you need to put a laptop back to work be aware of screws. They are different and you better remember or mark them somehow to insure that you will put them back in to a right place.
Some laptops I take apart first time, so don't be serious on my time and performance.
If something got broken - ooops, it's your fault.
Believe me, some parts in your laptop are already broken, you just don't see that.
So, just watch this video and fix your laptop.
    Have fun and good luck!!

Yeah, I just got a little bit more time to answer. If you check to pics. One dv6-6000 motherboard and another one dv6-1000 motherboard it will be a huge difference.
So, I will not check for -2000 -3000 but if they look similar and compatible you will be able to find that somewhere on internet.

Thanks my fan went out & this video helped, it is exactly the same as my laptop. There were parts I did not need to remove so I got it done quicker, about 2 hours. If you have a fan go out, you may be interested to know I got one from ii battery dot com. Took paypal so I figured I could go back and reverse if nothing came, but it did. I didn't have to mess with the part attached to the cpu chip, it was just the fan itself. Pulled motherboard, turned over and removed 4 screws on fan housing.

Cheers for this, I managed to get the cooler off and blast it with some air and re-apply some thermal paste to the GPU and CPU. I'm amazed I managed to get it back together and it actually still works (now running 20-30C cooler too),

This video is about how to take a whole laptop apart. Of course by looking it you may find your way to a fan or just lcd, etc. This laptop, if you remove only a keyboard - there will be no access to a fan. You will need to remove a palmrest, but this mean you have to follow pretty much everything I did prior to palmrest removal.

To be honest, pretty much all non gaming laptops are not suitable for heavy gaming... so they can be hot and depend on the game and settings FPS will be lower and lower. Anyway, if you are sure the dirty fan is the main problem, to clean it will be a good idea.

    Thanks.. awesome vid.
I ended up replacing just the fan. (accidentally ordered just the fan)
I have a question, now, when the ambient is 28C, with the new fan, the core temperature hovers around 50C. This is with standard fan settings.
    1. Is this normal/safe?
    2. Is it worth the noise to put the fan on high?
    3. Any reduced fan life from keeping it on high?
I think replacing the whole unit would've been better. cos there was some impossible to remove gunk in the sink blades.

Connect to a external screen, start a laptop and check how does it looks on external screen. If everything looks fine - means your screen is bad. More likely. If same as on your laptop screen - than it is a video issue on your motherboard.
