- The TSA expects nearly 3 million passengers on Friday to kick off Memorial Day weekend. But with the return of post-pandemic travel, a new trend has emerged - more Americans than ever are bringing guns to the airport. CBS News homeland security and justice reporter Nicole Sganga has been looking into the story.

Fun fact you can bring guns with you when you travel domestically but please do it properly. It needs to be unloaded, in a small lock safe, in your checked bag, and most importantly declare it at your airline check in counter.

Funny story: I was on crutches at an airport going to some other city when the airline came up to provide assistance. After the wheelchair dude and I had our discussion of who I was, where I was going, etc, and as I was settling into the wheelchair, I told him I had a firearm to declare. He acknowledged and told me he would tell the counter agent when checking luggage, but that I should also mention it as well. He turned around, saw the agent he was going to be working with walking away from us from around 60 feet away, and yelled out as loud as possible to him so that occupants at the closest grave yard would be jarred awake: "OH, HEY, HE HAS A GUN RIGHT HERE BRO!" I looked for anything I had in my pockets to help me hide my face at that point, and you could hear a loud & collective gasp from all the others in the busy airport. Eventually everyone caught onto the issue, and just went about their way. This was an airport in a very VERY blue state too, so I was even more nervous going through, because it was also my very first time declaring a firearm when flying.
If you made federal minimum wage in the USA, then a TSA fine equals minimum 3 months gross pay. That’s a lot of money for just accidentally forgetting to leave your guns at home.
Just like they conveniently leave out the fact that 60% of gun deaths are suicide and 95% of gun murders are from hand guns not rifles they leave out the reason people are doing this. The NRA reported a survey about this issue and the #1 cause was people using range bags as back packs and other purposes. It’s easy to leave a gun in a pocket of one of those bags that’s why smart people have dedicated range bags. For those that don’t know most people pack multiple guns into those bags to take to the range, they are small and light and easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. This report makes it seem like crazed gun owners are trying to sneak guns into the plane, surprised they didn’t tie it to the orange menace somehow.
Exactly. They wanna make it seem like ppl are tryna sneak guns on planes; that’s preposterous. If y’all think it’s dumb to forget you have a gun on you, it’s even dumber to think you can sneak one past TSA security. That leaves the only reasonable explanation- that these are just honest mistakes.
They are crazy gun owners
@@stick2dapoint88they don’t want to make it seems that’s exactly what those people tried to do

How?
Read the Constitution and know some history before you try and correct someone.
It's one sentence you can't skip over the first two clauses, it has to be read in its entirety with historical context.
2nd Amendment
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
In the 1700s, America had various gun regulations. All colonies, except Pennsylvania, required local citizens to enroll in state-regulated militias and maintain their own weapons. Laws restricted armed travel and gun ownership was tied to property ownership or special permission. There were also specific laws for militia service and measures to control gun use in New England. However, interpretation and enforcement varied widely, and gun regulation has significantly evolved since then.
So, you were saying?

Wrong! It’s an honest harmless mistake. Often people travel with firearms so it makes perfect sense to have a gun in a travel bag. TSA should just tell the person to put it away and come back.
No one was harmed in the making of this
Very well balanced report. I'd like to see a stronger perspective towards regular people just plain forgetting they have their gun with them. The 2nd Amendment is a right and almost 50% of Americans own half of the world's guns. Think about that; especially if you live in a communist state like NY, California, or Massachusetts where it's not gun laws, but disenfranchisement which causes the citizens in those states to be confused as to why people may accidentally bring a gun to the airport....these people simply forgot. Arms are a huge part of American culture and it should be recognized as such; again - it's also a right. This right is no different than the 1st, 5th, or 13th - every American HAS the right to bear arms and it SHALL NOT be I fringed. God bless and good night.
