The truth is Ronaldo and Messi spoiled us.... They completely warped our idea of a good player. They say you don't know what you have until it's gone and that's what's happening here. This kid is having a spotty patch and is still the top goal scorer in his league. It's crazy how unfit people are calling for perfection
Ronaldo and Messi set the standards high.
That’s the issue this pundits trying to compare this great players with messi and cr7 and that’s not possible 😂
Absolutely

Agree and he’s also still young. I’m old enough to remember a time when people even questioned if Henry and at one time Ronaldo could get it done in big games. It’s part of their development. He’s a great player.
Espm complaining about clickbait analysis!!?? wow...and you'd think you heard it all
ESPN is actually really good about not using clickbait. They mostly get roasted because sensitive fans can’t take it when they criticize their clubs. Talksport are INSANE with the clickbait. They’ll have some insane headline and then literally link an unrelated article.
To be fair it's Craig Burley himself he doesn't write the ESPN headlines

Not sure where you are based but its a swipe at the english media and tv people trying to get clicks by suggesting Haaland is playing at the standard of a "league 2 player". (Roy Keanes comments).

The thing that makes me laugh more is that Mbappe got the ball plenty of times. He just got pocketed. Haaland didnt get pocketed. He just barely touched a ball because city prefers to use him as a scapegoat to create space for other players. He did his job fine 😂

@@pendu.papaperezLoad of nonsense, they didn’t pay all that money and wages to a player for them to be a scapegoat he was bought to score goals and that’s his mentality on the pitch too. Mbappe is simply more dynamic player. If Haaland isn’t getting the ball it’s because his movement off the ball is not good. He is 6’4 and not particularly good in the air, not good outside the box and players don’t pass him the ball in positions where he has to beat his man, cause his dribbling is poor. So yeah he does get pocketed.
Haaland disrespect will not be tolerated.. Pep's playing style isn't made for natural strikers because he doesn't do crosses.. Haaland would dominate at RM or Barca or Bayern
Haaland in La Liga would be devastating for opposing teams
And yet he has 30 goals. 54 last year
Barca have always used technical strikers you don't know what you're talking about
The pressure & critics of being a too striker, nonsensical comments on Haaland being bad. I'm not even a city fan but the problem with Haaland is, he has achieved all hence the ceiling for 'good' performance is crazy.
exactly! Erling was a decoy. how he performed was based on the set of play by Pep. If Pep isn't complaining, why should you?
Haaland also didn't seem pissed off or frustrated.
Bro was fine.
In fact he seemed happy.
ESPN UK, This is great! I liked it and subscribed!
Teams have adjusted their playing styles against City. He may strive over 38 games however in knockout tournaments, he needs to be more versatile.
Does he? Seems to be working out pretty well so far. He could do more. We’ve seen him do more. Pep sets up the team this way for a reason.
In a final, most top teams will play the way Arsenal and Madrid played him. He has to adjust or else he will just be a passenger taking up air. If he drops deeper and links up with midfield, it will create space for others or for him to receive a return ball to be more effective.
@@daveshep8872 yes that would happen if he dropped deep. He was doing that in the early stages last year. He is not doing it anymore. So it is a clear tactical decision from Pep. It’s not a matter of Haaland needing to be more versatile. It’s a matter of Haaland following directions from the manager that led him to a treble and record breaking season last year. It’s not Haaland, it’s tactics.
Adaptability is key in tournaments. Pep is telling him to trust his players to get the ball to him, but he has to also assess how the game is playing, as he is not a robot. Top teams have found a way to frustrate and neutralize the service, so he has to respond in games and adapt. If Pep takes him out because he is trying to help his teammates in a difficult situation, it proves Pep is arrogant in the moment and is not adapting to how the game is playing.
@@daveshep8872 The only arrogance I see here is you thinking you know tactics better than Pep. give your head a wobble.

funny that mbappe will never get this kind of defending and protection from the media
He never does. He's always painted as a bad guy while Haaland gets praised. I wonder why. I think Mbappe is the deadlier attacker.
So is CR7 & Messi. Mbappe will be the new CR7 profile for his on/off pitch attitude. Haaland will be the 'saint' one like Messi. It is how it is.

@@AGE_97 i stated facts regardless of what they’re saying . You thought you did something didn’t you. 🤓😭
I sense Haaland activating Beast Mode for 2nd leg.
All the plastic talk makes me laugh. City are everyone's cup final & they all want to put a stop to Haaland. Pep does try everything. Look at how he switched his role with KDB last season when City spanked Arsenal. He's not currently at the standards he set himself. Neither are City. They've played really badly this season but are still within one point of top & on for another potential treble. I honestly don't know what's wrong with people these days. The entitlement stretches to football. The biggest voices on social media are the dumbest.
Just shut up and admit that haaland is useless without goals 😂
@mikelbaningo6407
Haaland has 30 goals and 6 assists in 37 matches. His job is to score and generate goals, period. And he does it better than anyone. His numbers are off the charts.
City-90 games, 82 goals, 15 assists
Dortmund-89 games, 86 goals, 23 assists
Salzburg-27 games, 29 goals, 7 assists
Norway-31 games, 27 goals, 3 assists
Total-237 games, 224 goals, 48 assists
Great video discussing this in-depth was recently put out by YT channel Four Four Two discussing Haaland’s heat maps while at BvD vs City and how much more involved he was at BvD in buildup play, touches (60+ per game average), holdup play etc. Yes he’s having a bit of a dry spell by his standards this season (30 goals across all comps while being out for 2 months), Pep must own some of this too as his style doesn’t utilize a lot of Haaland’s strengths and Pep has said in multiple press conferences that he wants Haaland to stay high in order to occupy the defenders. Agree or disagree that’s what Pep wants. I also think for some reason if you watch a lot of City games, Haaland will get in good positions in the box or will break the lines in transition but City players either don’t see him or ignore him, slow down the build up and pass lateral or backwards. It’s like they’re all terrified to misplace a pass
Put all those facts together and you have a player who is taken out of the game partially by Peps tactics and the players’ refusal to try riskier passes to him when he’s open and then good defenses capitalize on that such as Arsenal and most recently Madrid and Haaland is a passenger. In which case what’s the point of playing him bc you’re effectively playing 10 v 11
Finally some lucid commentary. Football seems to have some really dumb fans, the amount of people blaming Haaland for things that have nothing to do with him and to do with tactics because they think goals is all that matters and because they don't understand anything they're watching on the screen is atrocious.
Not even riskier, they just almost don't pass him all together. He showed want he can do in transition against Luton if he gets the passes
You're talking tactics to casuals who only read headlines
@@sdm_za True. But had to get it off my chest lol. Besides, a few other people seemed to have read it agreed to varying degrees. So at least that makes me feel like I’m not the only one seeing this.

This men are not true to themselves. Especially this Craig and Jan. They really campaigned for Haaland to win the best player award bcos they thought it was his only chance before people take note of his many flaws of the game...Now they've gone to "is the best football" to "the best striker"..
They're both delusional clowns for not calling it as it is, a poor individual season for Haaland, but Haaland could improve on his all round game to truly become the best STRIKER (he will never be the best footballer) if he went to another team or City had a new manager, he is still only 23 after all
@@TheDYNAMITE001 "calling it as it is." you're spot on. They'll never tell he lacks talent to produce magic but rather say Man city don't play to his strength. He'll learn to use his body & score lots for sure; probably that as good as he gets...As for JAN; his delusion is a lost cause
You can never and ever deceive everybody, everyone can not be foolish at same time.

@@sdm_za I didn't deny his goal stats. Andy Cole, V.Nistelrooy, Raul, Shearer...broke goal records but weren't seen as best players at the time.
Going to city was a mistake. Their play style does not allow him to develop other aspects of his game.
Not a single pass from his teammates . Pep doesn't allow him to drop deep. He should leave city asap
Yes.
Haaland has scored 82 goals in 90 games for City and he hasn't even completed his 2nd season. haha. It's ridiculous to even suggest anything negative about him. The kid is the one of a kind and is as good as you get. There is a Viking raid going on in the North of England and King Haaland is taking all the loot. To suggest he isn't after having casually scored 30 goals this season after delivering the treble is crazy.
No one disagrees that haaland is one of the best when it comes to putting the ball inside the net but when he doesn't do that against these big games he's non existent.. that's when the critism comes in cause he has nothing else to offer ...from world class to an average league 2 player...
Exactly
If Arsenal had Haaland they would be 10 points clear in PL.
They were 10 points clear last season and look what happened.

Craig is suffering from impression bias. It’s kind of how when espn see Trent playing they immediately think “but he can’t defend”, even when he has a good game or great spell of games. Haaland has been poor and it is okay to admit this
This week has been a clear advert for the superleague
Haaland style of play only works when Man city is the superior team in a match. He’s not the type of player who can turn a game in your favor. Name one big game where he had a good performance

@NorbertnahumPlatzer I agree simply because of Gabriel Jesus when he was at Palmeiras playing for the National Team I thought we actually had a number 9 but as soon as he went to City and learned Pep's system it was like we didn't have a striker in Brazil.
@@Mazrati Feeling the same for Norways National team - Before Haaland went to City he was more energetic/better positioning on the field - more dangerous in general.

He had almost 1 goal/game for Norway - now i am afraid that could drop.

Man city scored as many goals without Haaland as with him. This argument that Haaland is there to keep the defenders occupied is total nonsense. He doesn’t do much with the ball when it is not a tap in opportunity.
The fact is he is just a goalscorer and thats his player analysis and its not a bad thing but its what he can do
Yup, like a League Two player. What does that say for the entire Premier League when a person at that level has set all of those scoring records in just his first season? Maybe he's just bored and is looking for a challenge. Like in the game against Real Madrid where he ran down Vinicius Jr who was racing down with the ball. It wasn't really his responsibility and I've never seen him do anything like that before in a game but maybe he thought of the challenge. He managed it anyway without any drama or much effort. At least he got the chance to run again, something Pep is reluctant to utilize, but maybe RM would be eager to.

Very rarely scores from outside the box and have you ever seen his heading technique?? Jumps like a star fish. Great goal scorer in a great team. Kane would have scored 70 for the season in that city team
Love Pep, but he’s to blame for the majority of City's defensive woes. Why? He’s now playing a wingback system with players who recover the ground fast enough out of possession. It’s been Walker’s issue all season and until recently, Gvardiol too. This is further exacerbated by the fact that Pep is now playing a higher line than he did last season too, which forces defensive errors. Is it any wonder why every team City plays from Luton Town to Real Madrid, every team gets big chances to counter and score? Or that City is the worst team in the PL currently for defending against the counter?
If you play a system for which you lack the proper players to execute, you will be open to many errors. That’s what’s been happening all season at the back, and the stats & eye test back it up
Exactly. Spot on. I started to hate Walker but i realized he is only doing what Pep ask him to do.
Pep's system used to work well with Gundogan and Mahrez out there. Gundo used to provide enough cover in the midfield in terms of work rate and was flawless in possession and passing. Same with Mahrez. The problem here is that City are finding it difficult to replace the two with the acquisition they made in Kovacic, Nunez and Doku. All three are taking time to learn the Pep system. Add to that injuries to players like Pep, Walker, Stones etc haven't helped. But then again Pep is stubborn and he would never change his way of play.
Yet, they are one point from the top in PL, Semis in FA cup and just scored 3 in Bernabeu . I don't remember last time any one scored 3 or more in Bernabeu except Barca. So, keep your plastic opinions to yourself.
@@ameenaftab2803 Yup. We all know that if a player isn’t doing exactly what Pep wants on the pitch (for nearly everything), they’ll be hooked and benched. And what makes no sense to me is that Pep tried this with Walker last season - NU he got burned over and over by ASM - a few times with horrible results. Now he’s doing it this season and the results are still poor but he’s continuing anyway. Help me understand that logic
@@ShivaChettri I think the City board absolutely bottled the summer trans window and no needs anymore evidence than then not finding suitable cover for Rodri even after he publicly said he can’t play as many games and needs rest. City did nothing to address that major need. Kimmich was open to leaving and would’ve been as close to a Gundo replacement as you could find, but still nothing. Same goes for Mahrez. Okay we got £30m for a 30 something winger who had 28GA. Find me a replacement for that amount. You can’t and they weren’t willing to spend what was necessary to bring in the finished article of player to replace Mahrez
To quantify that, with Gundo and Mahrez departures, we lost 45GA. When you add the GA from all 4 player City bought, their GA was 25. That’s a massive delta. Throw in KDB 41GA for last season with him being out 1/2 of this season, add that 20 to the 45 and now you have loss of 65GA and you’ve brought in 25GA leaving City with a massive GA gap of 45. I like Doku but he’s inexperienced, young and has a lot to learn as he’s a project player. Fair. Kova was brought in as a squad player. Cool. Gvardiol to add to the defense (even tho pep plays him completely out of his normal CB position) he’s been looking better and at 21 he’ll very great before we know it. Nunes seems to be a panic buy and I don’t know what he really offers in terms of our needs in the summer. In conclusion, we didn’t address any of our immediate needs and still managed to spend £200m+. We let too many players go, too much GA go, too much experience go (Laporte too) and brought in no proper replacements to address our most critical needs: Rodri cover, Gundo and Mahrez replacements or as close to replacements as possible. Failed window
I’m not sure injuries played much of a role in the defense problems as even when the defensive starting line are all fit, we still leak goals and look shaky. Why? Pep new tactics playing wingbacks and pushing the entire line higher up the pitch. Sure you can play that way with some teams and get away with it, but to play very good counter attacking teams doesn’t seem to make sense, yet Pep does it. Why or why?
Kool it Craig. You often clickbait other players. Haaland is not exempt from criticism.

Rüdiger is also a beast at man marking and he is smart enough how to defend against more inexperienced players, especially if they are used to win with strength and size.

If the reff did his job and gave cards after repeated fouls the situation could be different.

How is occupying defenders a new stat or skill, messi and Ronaldo always had players trying to lock him up, but they nearly always still succeeded to influence the game with their own skills and score importanr goals when their team were not up for it. Can't be said the same for haaland!
Not the same at all. Refs let defenders foul Haaland (They climb on Haaland back pushing him down) you can try drible/get the ball with a guy sitiing on your back.
On the other hand refs cant blow the whistle fast enough if a player barely pushes messis shirt - Messi also stop playing if a player pull his shirt for more than 1 sec...

I would take Saka over Haaland any day
Haaland only scores, no other contributions. If opponents man-mark him, the game can be changed. If opponents man-mark him and deburne, the game will be won.
U don't watch city. In PL, 2 defenders are on him. Why don't the opposition win then? He ghost in big games, so why even bother about him. Bother about Foden and KDB and we will see
Lewandowski is the best striker in the world..
I don't know why these media has been disrespecting him putting that average Kane over him time and time again..
Lewa at 35 is performing great in LaLiga and the champions league
You were the guy who wanted him sold to Saudi Arabia 1 month ago, and now all of a sudden he is the best striker in the world 🤣🤣🤫
Respectfully, no, just no
@@superdzb when??? 😂
I'm not a Franco FC fan
Lol is he 40 yet
@@Triple_X_X yeah but you are negeira fc fanboy
He isn't a big game player
Pep have world's best players nd he makes mess of it . Without unlimited resources nd time pep with that also he thinks he is god of football
If you watched the game yesterday he was absolutely nonexistent he added NOTHING to that game so that’s a fair assessment for his play yesterday 😂
Harland is not better than KANE.
So people came to know about Kane at the age of 29-30years😅😅😅 Haaland were know him when he was younger
HAALAND IS AN AVERAGE PLAYER
84 goals in 87 games for city
Champions league 37 goals 34 games
I rest my case
@@thedean4431 against low quality club's. Check his stats against top clubs. Haaland is average nothing bad about a player been average

Watch the Madrid vs City highlights and pause just before each City goal. Nacho, Rudiger and Tchoumeni are all standing next to Haaland like a duck, and it's little ducklings following along closely. They leave space for KDB, Foden, Bernado, Rodri etc to shoot from the edge of the box. This is why Foden has been so good. The space left by defenders following Haaland allows him to shoot. But the clickbait pundits will never mention that.
They literally did mention it, and they mention it often. Haaland has just been out of form a bit since injury, he'll be back and smashing it.
@@sfb4144lol thank you for saying so. Better coming from a fan of the club.
Some of your fanbase cant rub together their last two braincells to make a solid thought.
Nacho didn't even play 😂 my guy re watched last years game 😂😂
I agree. But that's not my issue. If Haaland is doing nothing apart from occupying a central defender, why not play a KDB(false 9) or Julian Alvarez there?
it was just ruddier for most part.
0/10 small player.
How ironic Craig talking about click bait analysis when his the master of it
Can you give me one example?
