    The truth is Ronaldo and Messi spoiled us.... They completely warped our idea of a good player. They say you don't know what you have until it's gone and that's what's happening here. Great video discussing this in-depth was recently put out by YT channel Four Four Two discussing Haaland’s heat maps while at BvD vs City and how much more involved he was at BvD in buildup play, touches (60+ per game average), holdup play etc. Yes he’s having a bit of a dry spell by his standards this season (30 goals across all comps while being out for 2 months), Pep must own some of this too as his style doesn’t utilize a lot of Haaland’s strengths and Pep has said in multiple press conferences that he wants Haaland to stay high in order to occupy the defenders. Agree or disagree that’s what Pep wants. I also think for some reason if you watch a lot of City games, Haaland will get in good positions in the box or will break the lines in transition but City players either don’t see him or ignore him, slow down the build up and pass lateral or backwards. It’s like they’re all terrified to misplace a pass
    Put all those facts together and you have a player who is taken out of the game partially by Peps tactics and the players’ refusal to try riskier passes to him when he’s open and then good defenses capitalize on that such as Arsenal and most recently Madrid and Haaland is a passenger. In which case what’s the point of playing him bc you’re effectively playing 10 v 11

    Yup, like a League Two player. What does that say for the entire Premier League when a person at that level has set all of those scoring records in just his first season? Maybe he's just bored and is looking for a challenge. Like in the game against Real Madrid where he ran down Vinicius Jr who was racing down with the ball. It wasn't really his responsibility and I've never seen him do anything like that before in a game but maybe he thought of the challenge. He managed it anyway without any drama or much effort. At least he got the chance to run again, something Pep is reluctant to utilize, but maybe RM would be eager to.

    Love Pep, but he’s to blame for the majority of City's defensive woes. Why? He’s now playing a wingback system with players who recover the ground fast enough out of possession. It’s been Walker’s issue all season and until recently, Gvardiol too. This is further exacerbated by the fact that Pep is now playing a higher line than he did last season too, which forces defensive errors. Is it any wonder why every team City plays from Luton Town to Real Madrid, every team gets big chances to counter and score? Or that City is the worst team in the PL currently for defending against the counter?
    If you play a system for which you lack the proper players to execute, you will be open to many errors. That’s what’s been happening all season at the back, and the stats & eye test back it up

      Pep's system used to work well with Gundogan and Mahrez out there. Gundo used to provide enough cover in the midfield in terms of work rate and was flawless in possession and passing. Same with Mahrez. The problem here is that City are finding it difficult to replace the two with the acquisition they made in Kovacic, Nunez and Doku. All three are taking time to learn the Pep system. Add to that injuries to players like Pep, Walker, Stones etc haven't helped. But then again Pep is stubborn and he would never change his way of play.

      @@ameenaftab2803 Yup. We all know that if a player isn’t doing exactly what Pep wants on the pitch (for nearly everything), they’ll be hooked and benched. And what makes no sense to me is that Pep tried this with Walker last season - NU he got burned over and over by ASM - a few times with horrible results. Now he’s doing it this season and the results are still poor but he’s continuing anyway. Help me understand that logic

    • @MCFCTheMadHatter
      @MCFCTheMadHatter Před měsícem

      @@ShivaChettri I think the City board absolutely bottled the summer trans window and no needs anymore evidence than then not finding suitable cover for Rodri even after he publicly said he can’t play as many games and needs rest. City did nothing to address that major need. Kimmich was open to leaving and would’ve been as close to a Gundo replacement as you could find, but still nothing. Same goes for Mahrez. Okay we got £30m for a 30 something winger who had 28GA. Find me a replacement for that amount. You can’t and they weren’t willing to spend what was necessary to bring in the finished article of player to replace Mahrez
      To quantify that, with Gundo and Mahrez departures, we lost 45GA. When you add the GA from all 4 player City bought, their GA was 25. That’s a massive delta. Throw in KDB 41GA for last season with him being out 1/2 of this season, add that 20 to the 45 and now you have loss of 65GA and you’ve brought in 25GA leaving City with a massive GA gap of 45. I like Doku but he’s inexperienced, young and has a lot to learn as he’s a project player. Fair. Kova was brought in as a squad player. Cool. Gvardiol to add to the defense (even tho pep plays him completely out of his normal CB position) he’s been looking better and at 21 he’ll very great before we know it. Nunes seems to be a panic buy and I don’t know what he really offers in terms of our needs in the summer. In conclusion, we didn’t address any of our immediate needs and still managed to spend £200m+. We let too many players go, too much GA go, too much experience go (Laporte too) and brought in no proper replacements to address our most critical needs: Rodri cover, Gundo and Mahrez replacements or as close to replacements as possible. Failed window
      I’m not sure injuries played much of a role in the defense problems as even when the defensive starting line are all fit, we still leak goals and look shaky. Why? Pep new tactics playing wingbacks and pushing the entire line higher up the pitch. Sure you can play that way with some teams and get away with it, but to play very good counter attacking teams doesn’t seem to make sense, yet Pep does it. Why or why?
