there’s just something unique about this song like i can’t help but keep listening to and analyzing everything he did with the sounds but how fundamental it is at the same time. It scares me kind of but yeah it is fun overall and reallllly retro and kinda gothic, ancestral if anything in its originality
There's a lot of talk about this record, and a lot of theory, etc., but I like it because I think it's good, it sounds really good, and it has a certain artful mood to it. The videos for 'censors' are each spot on and look to me how each song feels. John's music hits me from a certain angle that's personal. I think if you listen to Tangerine Dream and Peter Baumann's new wave albums like Strangers In The Night, or bands like Xymox and New Order, or Human League, you get a similar mood, but John takes it to a whole other level with lyrics that are banal, yet relevant. It ends up all blending together to make this multi-layered thing that transcends its own sound. It's really great stuff.

Saw Maus live back in early May here in NY for the first time - he absolutely killed it. Glad he's back.
