Loved this video! I think a lot of people have the opinion that you need 20+ products for a full face. I do a similar look as this for days when I have to go into the office, but I'd switch out the contour for a brow gel and gel eyeliner.
I also loved hearing about your career story! I had no idea that you did nails as well. It's always so interesting to hear how people pivot within their industry.
Apprenticeship and self-learning are way underrated IMO. I say this as someone with an MA (because I was good at school and hung out there way too long because I didn’t know what I wanted to do exactly. A degree shows that you can learn and meet goals in one specific way, but you learn how to do your job…when you start doing it. If I could do it again, I’d do exactly as you did. FWIW, I worked for Clinique all through grad school as a traveling makeup consultant in LA…it never occurred to me to do any of the things you mention in terms of assisting etc. I mostly just felt like a total imposter thrown into the deep end working with people, often people of a different ethnic background, with almost zero training which sucked much of the fun out of it for me. But the gratis was good fun and I enjoyed my retail experience as well, especially without the stress of commissions.
So lovely to hear your career journey and a bit of life advice about how to view or use more negative experiences. Also, really appreciate a tutorial on a quick easy look that can be built on. Lots of love to you 💕

I've been wrestling with the idea of what "beginners" makeup is. I've seen so many videos online and most of the time it's just not beginner friendly when some of what people are recommending out there for a beginners kit includes primer, foundation, concealer, powder, brow pencils, brow gels, setting spray, mascara, eyeliner, lip liner, gloss, lip stick etc. I've been doing my own makeup for a while now, so I have the full kit so to speak and the advantage of having it all is that you can start to curate your products according to texture, function, and what you need according to the environment and season you're in etc. You can always go back to certain products at any given time, and this is what I love about your videos, it encourages me to go back into my kit and see what's up. This season, I'm shifting to more minimalist but fresh looks and exploring my multi-use products. When I replicated this look, I didn't need to purchase anything, because I already have it all. What you've just given us in this video is TRULY beginners friendly and low(er) cost than what's proposed out there and I THANK YOU! This is going to be my go-to routine for now and what I will recommend to my friends are interested in getting into makeup but don't want the whole nine yards.

Can you do a video once on a summer base/makeup that stays on the face in hot sunny summer weather? I think I’ve seen one once on your insta, but cannot find it anymore. Which base (primer?) and which foundation/concealer/bb cream are good to use to get a natural finish (like you always show us) but which will stay on (preferable all day) instead of melt off?
In summer I do need a very light skincare layer (serum) + a thin SPF 50 (tip:Isntree Hyaluronic Acid sun lotion) underneath my makeup to not make my skin dry out in certain spots and to prevent getting burned. For going out dancing I used to use Estée Lauder double wear (def sweat proof), but it’s a full coverage solution and not light and natural (to my idea, I might be wrong of course).
