  • The two play actors who once had their own TV series. They're driving back to California after a vacation on the east. Along the way, they pick up a good looking female who begins to make serious trouble. Things go from bad to worse when a small town Sheriff (played by Floyd the Barber) holds them because he thinks that they are two wanted criminals! The sound quality is very good.

Conrad was a great Matt Dillon in the OTR Series “Gunsmoke”.

A great Matt Dillon? Nope. Not even close. He was the BEST Matt Dillon. Wish he had starred in the TV version. Arness let most of the thugs do as they pleased for which they got a slap on the hand. Conrad’s Dillon didn’t take no guff from nobody. But his Doc, on the other hand, left a whole lot to be desired. Milburn Stone was the best Doc Dodge City ever had, whereas Howard McNear (spelling?) was an insufferable whiny money-grubbing little nobody trying desperately to be a somebody. Them’s my two cents, which is all they’re worth, but they’re my two cents.

Fun episode. I was reminded of an incident told to me by a friend who'd lived in Brazil. She knew a Brazilian actress who was accosted while grocery shopping because the soap opera character she played was a thoroughly evil woman. The elderly lady who spotted her in the grocery aisles gave her a concussion with a heavily laden purse.

TY for the upload, a brilliant & very funny episode. Well acted too! The ubiquitous William Conrad, such a prolific radio actor in addition to his movie work & then TV output.

Conrad, McGraw, and Floyd the barber. Its like a little playful movie, using those incredible voices. Floyd would make a good Jim Thompson sheriff with his modulation of moods.

Always recognize Charles McGraw's voice from Spartacus (1960) as Marcellus. As well as a range of acting he did in his life.
Thanks for the uploads of these old time radio shows.

Yay , another William N. Robson " Suspense" radio story! The radio actors are Charles McGraw and William Conrad and they deliver the goods! These two also were in "Escape's" Port Royal in 1950 as Danny Quinn (McGraw) an out of luck treasure seeker and the corrupt Captain Matson ( Conrad) who tried to murder Danny and the diver , Travis ( John Dehner) for the fortune... I won't spoil the plot but check it out ! You won't be disappointed. The first time I heard it was on a cassette tape I checked out from a library in 1977. I still like to listen to Port Royal because it's an mini film noir type of radio story.

Yeah. I saw the Killers, here on CZcams not long ago - Burt Lancaster starred in it - if my memory serves me - But yessir the opening scene was pretty intense, I was both surprised, and a little disappointed to see Bill Conrad in such a role AND that he didn't have a bigger part in it, but it's a great old Noir Flick.

@@SuspenseESCAPEremastered Yes, I do like Conrad's radio presence. Although He is well before my time, as are most vintage radio shows, I was exposed to them as a kid growing up in the late 70's & early 80's when I'd listen to re-runs at night on a little transistor radio. I'd pick up CBSRMT during the weeknights, but on the weekends, Sunday night in particular - I'd get the "good stuff" Escape, Suspense, The Shadow, The Whistler, The Mysterious Traveller, Inner Sanctum, Gunsmoke, & X Minus One. Escape was probably my favourite. In particular one episode called "Evening Primrose" which scared the B-Jesus out of me the first time I heard it, and I was hooked... It wasn't until You Tube came along, and channels like this one, that I could really get into OTR. So for the past 10 years I've done just that, and have become quite well versed in OTR, and its performers by listening to and subscribing to everything I can find, which is suspenseful, spooky, sci fi, or macabre, with a healthy dollop of detective and crime shows.
I will certainly check out your Conrad Playlist. I like going on Marathon "Benders"...
Thanks for Posting these, and Merry Christmas + Happy New Year to You. - CphB
