I always crack up with laughter everytime PPSW says that line when I revisit this What-If
Vader didn't destroy Alderaan, he didn't even suggest that planet or relay the order...nor did the Emperor. Moff Tarkin made that decision. Also, in the books, Palpatine thought it was a mistake to pick Alderaan because of the favor they held in the senate.
This, tarkin was the clown who had the planet popped. Also idk if vader gave the order to kill the Lars, troopers were simply told to get the Droids and who knows what happened at the homestead. Maybe there is more in the novel but I didn't read it.
I believe in Legends, he did give the order and watched va hologram from the Devastator. Not sure about canon.
I love how you had Vader go out heroically. Too many people justify his actions or ignore them all together. Two decades of torment and pain on the innocent cannot be ignored.
While I’m not saying Vader was innocent Tarkin was the one in control of the Death Star not Vader. All Vader did was hold onto Leia as it destroyed Alderaan. Sure he could have possibly stopped it but the blame is on Tarkin. Palpatine was the one ordering Vader as his attack dog. To me Palpatine is more to blame than Vader but Vader was also evil.
Then you have the debate of Vader vs Anakin, Anakin being a hero who protected the innocent vs Vader who was evil and oppressed the innocent. The Jedi themselves were not pure good either.

@@bobafett1313 Vader was aiding in the direct protection of the Death Star by capturing and torturing Leia. That makes him absolutely guilty just like the engineers who listened to orders and fired the shot.
I just want to comment on this, letting Vader live isn't necessarily justifying or ignoring his actions. It depends on the context. Honestly, with the kind of stuff Vader did, killing him would be an empty and insufficient punishment, and a state of permanent atonement, attempting to right his wrongs but knowing it will never truly be enough, would be more fitting.
People who call for his death are effectively letting him off easy. If a redeemed Vader _didn't_ want to atone, then that's a problem. But if he does? Let him.

Idk why so many people keep saying that Vader destroyed Leia's planet when it wasn't even Vader who ordered its destruction. If memory serves Vader just happen to be in the room when it happened, he literally just sorta stood there while the guy who was ACTUALLY in charge ordered the destruction of her planet. Heck I don't even remember if Vader even said anything that entire scene, I distinctly remember him just sorta standing there menacingly the entire time.
Yeah, it was Moff Tarkin who gave the order and I think there's a comic book that says Vader did not approve of the destruction of Alderaan and thought it was excessive.

Technically, Tarkin was in command of the Death Star. He gave the order to destroy Alderann, not Vader. In the new canon, Vader didn't have Owen and Beru killed, he didn't even know they were the ones raising Luke. Other than that this is great!
Exactly, even during the OT, it was established Boba Fett incinerated Owen and Beru over a bounty for the droids, hence why Vader told him “and this time, no incinerations” in episode V

Yeah... Vader oversaw the destruction of Alderaan AND tortured his own daughter (he didn't know who she was but still...) and that's only the latest crimes he commited at this point, it will not end well for him.

One small point... I will concede the Lars farm being on Vader, but the call to destroy Alderaan was Tarkin, all Tarkin... He made that call and due to Tarkin's status in the eyes of Palpatine, Vader could not have countermanded the order that Tarkin gave... In fact, Tarkin was one of only a few people Vader would take direction from...
This is absolutely unique, Mr. Pente Patrol. I love Vader choosing the redemption path but, simultaneously, holding accountability for his actions on what he did to innocent people he killed and tearing up a bit for this indeed an emotional story. That is an excellent story, my friend; please keep up the great work, and may the force be with you!

Technically, it was Tarkin who ordered the destruction of Alderaan. Vader didn't stop him because his hands were tied, figuratively.
To be fair Alderaan was all Tarkin. Vader just watched.

- What if Palpatine wasn't elected the chancellor of the Republic in Phantom Menace?
- What if Anakin's bombing run managed to kill Grievous on Malevolence
- What if it was Saw and not Steela who died on Onderon?
- What if Anakin killed Dooku in their duel during the Rako Hardeen arc?
- What if Tarkin died in the Citadel meaning there would be no Tarkin Doctrine for the Empire?
- What if Qi'ra joined the Galactic Empire with Han perhaps becoming an ISB agent?
- What if Han killed Darth Vader during the battle of Yavin?

I’ve never much like fan fictions, but I thought this one was very good. I loved the scene where Anakin reconciles with his family. And I have to give you props for incorporating basically every Canon piece of Star Wars media into one fanfiction.

I would imagine that if Anakin ended up surviving an encounter where he killed Palpatine he would definitely need a new suit. I gather that it's not something most would think about in reguards to how it goes from cutting the head off the empire to him probably in a bacta tank getting a new suit. That can be left up to interpretation. The reason I felt like adding thos was because of the idea of the design for a new suit. Ultimately it can look exceptionally different from his suit when he was Vader given that suit was intentionally designed with limitations by the emperor. I would imagine said suit would have some mechanical life support systems that can be rather different than the ones seen on his previous suit given that was old tech but alongside that baring some reblance to the armor he wore during his time fighting in the clone wars, but furthermore it's coloring bearing potentially silver/white as a primary color that I can easily see being debated for another color but the color I don't want to really debate to much is some yellow accents as a callback/reminder of his old jedi starfighter which only had yellow as a callback/reminder of his speeder from episode 1.
Beautiful what if video though I just had this idea run across in my head while watching this and felt I couldn't resist but add my thoughts in the comments. I am curious as to see what people would make of the idea of a suit for Anakin post redemption. I mean god knows what the life support and tech would look like but calling back to more pleasent days with the asphects is a good idea I feel. I just want to have a better idea as to what that would look like.

I've been listening to your stories for awhile now and this will be the first time I comment. As a fan from when they first came out I gotta say that I've enjoyed your stories. I honestly think you should be a writer in your own right. Also I enjoy your creativity with the way you have done things. Also Vader has always been my favorite since I was 4. This was also back in 1977 btw. Again thank you for your stories. This old fan enjoys them more than you can know.

What if a character in the Legends continuity uses the World Between Worlds to change history, causing a divergence that creates the new Disney Canon? At what point do the two timelines diverge? Why would someone from Legends want to reset that timeline? Perhaps to spare the lives of the billions of lives lost in the Yuuzhan Vong invasion?
Disney should have at least acknowledged and retconned the old EU continuity before going in a new direction. A story like this could have done this.
