  • I have had a lot of people asking me to make some local South African favourites, so here is my first. This is Koeksisters, a local desert or tea time snack. It's indulgent, it's sweet and its delicious.
    This is a channel that is going to celebrate taste and all things food. West Pack Lifestyle are helping me to live out my cooking dream. I have never loved walking into a store as much as West Pack Lifestyle. Most people believe it to be a plastic and packaging store, but they are that and so much more. High end brands and high quality products are all over the place. Get down to your nearest store to collect everything you need for your dream kitchen and more!
    Todays Recipe ingredients:
    Syrup:
    1kg sugar
    2tsp lemon zest
    1tsp grated ginger fresh
    500ml water
    Dough:
    2 cups flour
    25ml baking powder
    30ml butter
    100ml milk
    100ml water
    Salt( pinch)

      Have you ever made them yourself? They are a different level to store bought. The freshness gives a melt in your mouth texture.

    Does the water and milk need to be cold or warm

      Hi Selena. I used milk from the fridge (So cold) and I keep a bottle of filtered water (Room Temperature). I don't think it will make too much difference, just make sure your syrup is very cold for best results. Are you going to try them?

    Couple of questions on this, it is not necessary to kneed the dough? I have seen recipe's with egg, butter and milk and you have to kneed the dough and leave it for couple of hours before you can bake them... Is this not necessary with this recipe?

      Not necessary to kneed the dough in this recipe. I filmed it as I made it, no extra steps. If you follow the instructions they will be delicious! Thanks for the comment.

    Hi Vivienne,I love pap but what can I add to give it a really good flavour .Maybe some grated cheese , pepper.What would you suggest.

    What is the temperature of your cooking oil?

      I never measure the temp of the oil when I cook these. I do a test piece before doing a whole batch. As long as there is a bubble like in the video you are good to go. Just give them a turn after they are golden to get both sides! Have you ever made them before?

      Yes, there is a pinch of salt in the dough. If you check the description I have the recipe for the dough and the syrup.
