Awesome review, tons of useful info. Thanks for the showcase of the watch on different straps 👍
As a budget seiko i really like that they go with different textures to give it unique factor and different styles than others seiko.
Possibly Seiko’s best modern utilitarian watch. Just wish they would ditch Hardlex.
What do you do with a watch? I have a seiko 5 ten years old, I work with it on my hand and I wear it everywhere. I don't have any scratches on the glass only on the case.
@@theknightswatch depends on how much it costs tho any idea how much? I may get one and do that but money is a key thing
Today I ordered an SRPG35K1. I really liked how it looks from the photos and just now I'm looking up if it's actually a good watch. Glad to see some validation since it's my first mechanical.
The SRPG35 is not just a random fashion watch from SEIKO, instead however, it's a reincarnation of the 1964 MAC V SOG SEIKO 6119 8900.
Seiko watches were used by the MACV-SOG military unit. ‘MACV-SOG’ stands for Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group. This military unit was founded in 1964 as a special operations unit that would operate behind enemy lines. This included sabotage, strategic reconnaissance, personnel recovery, counterintelligence, and psychological operations - all behind enemy lines. They were responsible for preparing and coordinating some of the most pivotal moments of the war.
is believed that the military didn’t begin issuing timepieces to the task force until 1968. The 6119-8100/8101 is considered the first of the ‘officially issued’ watches. The case diameter was a whopping 35mm and 18mm Lug width. This modern incarnation has a 39MM case with 20MM Lug width.
SEIKO's rich history, provenance and historical contributions to horology is unrivaled. SEIKO SRPG35 should not be worn as a fashion statement but instead it is a badge of honor: intended to honor the US Troops and Special Forces who relied on this uncanny piece of machine as they waged war behind enemy lines in Vietnam.
At my age, and after 2 decades of buying-owning and then selling 100's of watches I have Down-sized to just a handful of SEIKO and ORIENT watches that exude rich history and this modest, lowly SRPG35 is by far a more precious acquisition than let's say, the Rolex date just I just sold.
Watch ID GUYS Channel on YT to further understand the rich history and imposing presence. Type MAC V SOG SEIKO on the search bar - it should come up.
Lastly, that is not how a NATO strap is worn. 1)Insert the end in the buckle and leave a big enough loop to slide your wrist. 2)Once the wrist is in; reposition your watch in the center of the wrist. 3)Fasten the buckle.
In doing so, it ensures the watch is sitting on one (and not two) straps and the watch doesn't stick up to high making it impossible to conceal/cover it with the sleeve. The bottom of your wrist will have 2 Passes and it will be much much easier to symmetrically centralize the buckle and the watch on the wrist.
NATO Straps were originally designed to strap the watch on wrist AND to fasten a compass (the size of a nickel) on either side of the wrist- hence the 4 to 5 ring hardware. That was the MILITARY intentent of the NATO straps. So true is this, NATO provided it's allied troops pamphlets with illustrations on how to strap their watches and compass.
Try it.
Brilliant Coverage! I second this NATO wearing method. It feels much more comfortable!
I have 4 sapphire glass and had a hardlex and seems to be okay despite working in emergency I was surprised that the Monster Penguin I got comes with hardlex and did not have any scratch after heavy use. When I learned it was not a sapphire then I decided to switch alternately on rotation despite it feels the best size for me. I will try this sprg the cheapest yet more versatile than my diver’s which I am falling out of love a bit as most are heavy for daily work but great for casual use.
Hey! I finally got to watch this one. Really nice looking watch and to be honest, I wish I had considered this or a similar one to that Seiko 5 I did actually buy, but I was suckered in by the dial on that and failed to note it doesn't even wind...anyway. Great video as always
Thanks! You could always slap a newer hand windable movement into the one you have. But this watch is probably one of the best Seiko 5 out there right now.
A great watch seiko automatic watch. Perfect. 👌
Just ordered this new-in-box for $207 in July 2022, much less than the initial price.
Your review reinforces my decision to get it. Can't wait until it arrives.
I just purchased mine for 197$ from kohls online with a 20% they were offering
I wanted a field watch to replace a citizen eco drive that had a capacitor go out (it only worked in direct sunlight) I got the darker colored case. It really is comfortable with the leather band provided and super legible in low light situations because all you can really see is the numbers and the hands. I love it. I have a few watches and love Seiko's attention to detail. Yes a sapphire cyrstal would be nice but the hardelex, really is durable. A couple of things I love is that when the watch is on your wrist and you glance down , the Seiko badging is so bright and reflective and at an extreme angle you can see that the crystal does poke up a bit, and distorts. but as I sit here typing and glance down it's just so nice to look at. The dark dial almost looks like chocolate.
Have the new one and a early version happy with all my Seiko 5 watches.
Great review. Talented. Question: Where did you find those strap holders? Love them.
Just ordered mine from Kohls with some coupons for $174 before taxes, excited to wear this as an EDC
I really like everything about this watch. Unfortunately the 13.2mm thickness is a deal breaker for me...
It seems that "non cream" versions have matching green lume and both SRPG35 and SRPG41 with tan lume have bluish hands. Seiko already has some double lume like SPB071/SDBC055 or SRPB099.
Nice close ups. Until this video (one of a dozen or so) I did not know that there is writing straddling the 6 on the face. It looks and wears great with the dark leather strap.
Thank you for this review, did you know by any chance a metal band that will go well with this particular watch?
Hi, great review and really heklpful. Just wondering if that pajama strap is 20mm or did you squeeze a 22mm? Cheers
More than happy with my watch, forget hardex or sapphire id preferred if it was acrylic domed
It’s a beautiful watch.
I think I'll be going for the SRPJ09 "stealth" model as my first automatic watch :)
@@HandlewithcareVibes looks great. I'm new to compulsively watching the good watch channels here.
All are interesting. Now I know a new brand from you.
Thanks,
Really great watch and value proposition. However, I just hate the typeface they used for "Automatic" right on the low center of the dial!
I just got one for $155 @ Kohl's super happy about that price.
I've read from other reviews that the strap is quite poor and doesn't seems to match the overall quality of the watch. I also see no reinforcing at the holes area like they did in some previous models.
Thanks, nice review.
Didn’t quite catch tho the brand name of the khaki silicone strap?
Nice looking watch, but Long Island Watch's Field watches have a similar aesthetic, the exact same movement (4R36), Sapphire crystal, multiple dial colors, better lume, and unlike Seiko, are not overpriced. Seiko seems to have abandoned the affordable watch category, and upped their prices. Microbrands are loving this.
Unsure if you meant they're not illuminated at all, but they're phosphorescent.
Beauty full Seiko militar Whatch, very cheap, for the people like to see and enjoy the Time in your hand.
I have an 16 cm wrist will it suit me ? I really like the brown khaki one
Thank you for the video, i was looking at seiko snzg07 but this one looks great as well , i am 40 years old middle size guy, what would you suggest?
I think it’s hard to do much better than the snzg you mentioned, go for something like an orient ray if you want a little sportier or take a look at some of the offerings from Dan Henry
Just bought It. Is It normal for the rotor to make a subtle sound when it spins?
When did this particular watch get released? Saw this on Seiko’s sight yesterday and it was there. Looked on their site this morning…….gone. I guess you snooze, you lose. Personally I think this is the most attractive of the SRPG line.
This was released a couple weeks/months ago. I’m pretty sure this is still available may just be temporarily out of stock
The lume on the hands is a blue lume.
What is the difference between SRPG35 5 and SRPG35K1? they look identical (?)
What is the difference between Srpg35 and Srpg37?
btw I like your background ''The time you enjoy wasting was not wasted''
The 37 is more black and has silver numerals instead of the tan ones shown here. And thank you!
You know of any other brands that make a stretch band in grey like the blushark? They no longer have a 20mm option in that grey that looks great.
Sorry for the late reply! It seems like the only one still doing it really is cns watch straps
Anyone tried to put a different strap?
The Seiko 5 mineral crystals that everybody whines about aren't a price issue as Chinese and micro brands prove. They are clearly an intentional downgrade to prevent cannibalising of the higher priced lines (just like the previous 3 bar WR limit) and they therefore won't change for a while.
ok, while you still like me, the watch review is awesome. Lot’s of great information and in particular finding that awesome grey strap and telling me which one it is, that is huge value added! well done.
I subscribed and hope I enjoy your channel going forward.
As an old man, I am telling you this even though I can not even pretend to know what women or men or aliens your age are looking for out of you. DITCH that facial hair, NOW. I totally apologize for the shot, but you need a friend in your life that should have told you this by now. Find them.
Even though you will now not speak to me, good luck with this channel. I hope it succeeds.
Appreciate the honestly and glad you liked the review. Just happened to be one of those times where I didn’t shave for a day or two. Hope you continue to enjoy the videos!
I have one. It's fine as a backup watch but it doesn't keep good time. I get -20 seconds per day which is not great even at this price.
Perpetual calendar?
What sucks in these watches is the index of refraction of the hardlex domed crystal compared to what it could be with a sapphire crystal. At a viewing angle of 20-25 degrees, the dial is horribly distorded and unreadable.
The bezel if not very refined either with its rough chamfer whereas a round form could be nicer.
For all the rest, this watch is a killer for its price...
Nice watch. Wish it wasn’t so thick. Seiko needs to realize there’s no need for a see thru back on all these watches. It adds unneeded thickness.
Great review, that's the first time iv'e seen that watch say made in Japan written on it,all of the others don't say that, then i looked into it a bit more and it seems that the 5SRPG35 sold on Amazon are the only ones that have the made in Japan written on it,that's a bit confusing, makes me think that some are not proper Seiko 5 SRPG35.I was wondering if someone knows anything about that or am i speaking rubbish lol.
Thanks! And I bought this from seikousa.com so I assume it’s not just Amazon where you can get that text. From what I understand(which isn’t perfect knowledge) Seikos are made all over Asia and even if it’s the same model, some are and aren’t made in Japan.
@@theknightswatch Thank you, would you think the watch would be the same quality regardless of what part of Asia they are made ?Japan always seems to have a good reputation of making quality products, i would think that Seiko would not compromise their quality control regardless of where it is made,we hope .
Good combo with the rubber strap..realy dont like with the nato strap..
@@theknightswatch i just owned this seiko model, but the nato is very annoying in my hand, planning to change the rubber..like on the vodeo thnks
@@ferrysandria2660 hopefully you enjoy the watch! The rubber makes it much more comfortable
Would the Marathon gpq non tritium model be much better than this guy?
Its as thick as a dive watch. What was seiko thinking?
very nice close up video. i subscribe.
I cannot understand why seiko will not use sapphire crystal on these watches, it doesn't save them much money and the micro brands can do it with cheaper prices than seiko.
Does the lume last into the night, legible at say 4:00AM?
Really wouldn’t know. Don’t test the lume that extensively because I’ve never needed to use it in “real life”
Mine does, even at 6am it is still legitable expessially if you give it 30 seconds of good light before bedtime.@@theknightswatch
Just by adding sapphire and 200m water resistance and they can ask easily 500 dollars for this one.
What does 'hacking' mean?
It means when you pull out the crown the seconds hand will stop running. Helps for better time setting to an exact reference.
I would like they put a more remeberable name on it. 5 SRPG 35 is hard to remember. Seiko Field is better 😂.
This would literally be the perfect watch if it had lumed dials. What the fuck where they thinking when making a field/pilot watch WITHOUT a lume dial??
Dość gruby jak na taki mały zegarek
So-so lume, not super accurate, have to wind it every day, cheap crystal, and priced at over $200. Gonna pass. Sharp looker though
nice piece, but 39mm is too small for my liking. anything less than 40/41 looks gurly.
The "other straps" part is very helpful!
Thank you glad it helps!
