Am Fronleichnamsfest erinnert die Liturgie der Katholischen Kirche noch einmal an das Letzte Abendmahl Jesu vor seinem Leiden, Sterben und Auferstehen. Im Glauben wird bekannt, dass Jesus Christus selbst im gewandelten Brot und Wein gegenwärtig ist, bis er wiederkommt in Herrlichkeit.
Viele Lieder und Hymnen befassen sich mit dem tieferen Verstehen des Glaubens an die sakramentale Gegenwart Christi im eucharistischen Brot.
Cesar Franck (1822-1890) vertonte die vorletzte Strophe des Hymnus Sacris Solemniis des Thomas von Aquin (1225-1274) in einer Fassung für Tenor, Harfe, Cello und Orgel. Dieses Stück wurde sehr beliebt und zählt zum Standartwerk vieler Startenöre, wie u.a. Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo.
Es erklingt die Bearbeitung des Stückes von Cesar Franck vom amerikanischen Organisten und Komponisten Lani Smith (1934-2015).
Peter Nicol (Saxophon) und Konrad Schäfer (Schönefeld-Orgel) musizieren in der Himmelfahrtskirche in Arnstadt. (aufgenommen am 22.05.2024).

Music for Corpus Christi 2024 | (English description below)
On the feast of Corpus Christi, the liturgy of the Catholic Church once again recalls the Last Supper of Jesus, before his suffering and resurrection. By faith it is known that Jesus Christ himself remains present in the bread and wine until he returns in glory.
Many songs and hymns deal with the deeper understanding of faith in the sacramental presence of Christ in the Eucharistic bread.
Cesar Franck (1822-1890) set the penultimate verse of the hymn Sacris Solemniis by Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) to music in a version for tenor, harp, cello and organ. This piece became very popular and is a standard work for many star tenors, such as Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo, among others.
The arrangement of the piece by Cesar Franck by the American organist and composer Lani Smith (1934-2015) will be heard.
Peter Nicol (saxophone) and Konrad Schäfer (Schönefeld organ) make music in the Church of the Ascension in Arnstadt (recorded on May 22nd, 2024).
