    This has to be the best video out there on using lav and 3.5 mics without their own power with Zoom recorders. The video was very clear. Thank you so

    Can i plug 3.5mm dynamic microphone without phantom power converter? Does it work just by xlr to 3.5mm convertor?

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 21 dnem

      Yes a dynamic mic does not need phantom power. A simple XLR to 3.5mm adaptor will do it. Not the best match but it should work.

  • @aryapraagya
    @aryapraagya Před měsícem +1

    If I use a lav mic like the Sennheiser Me II with the VXLR+ without phantom power turned on my Zoom H6, will it still work or no?

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před 21 dnem

      If the mic needs plug in power the vxlr+ will reduce phantom power to the low voltage you need. You won't hear anything from the mic if it is not powered. Make sure you don't plug a lav mic into a powered socket without reducing the voltage with the adaptor. The voltage output from an XLR phantom powered socket can be 48Volt. A lav mic only needs 2-3volts

    I'd like to use the lav mic for recording stand up but would also like to mic the audience. Is it possible that if I use the splitter in the 1/8th " jack I can still record audio out of one of the 2 mics? If not, what's best way to accomplish this? Thanks so much!

    Hey! Thank you for the video! I got a question: I have Zoom h5 and Shure MVL - 3.5mm. I followed the instruction, set the plugin power on but still no sound. What could be the reason for that? May it be because there are 3 black lines on the jack and not 2 as on yours?

    • @anthonyrock5039
      @anthonyrock5039 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yes. You need TRS while you are using TRRS. (purchase a TRRS-TRS adapter. then your connection will work)What is happening is that you have an extra channel(used by mobile phones) making them not align.

      Not sure which lav mic you are using. Remember it has to be a TRS plug type. Not the 4Pin smartlav type. Also as in the video, Check that plugin power is activated to the X/Y 3.5mm mini jack.

    Hi. I've got a h5 zoom. There is some hiss on it. If I turn the level down on the h5 and boost it in my DAW it will still get the same issue. If I use the de-noise it just makes everything bad and underwater. I've tried to use the sm58 mic and attach to h5 still same outcome. It's mainly for ASMR type stuff.
    How can I resolve this? Should I just bin it all. Lol

    • @BD323
      @BD323 Před rokem

      Kind of you. You bought the wrong recorder for quiet recordings. The preamps are noisy on the H5. You need something like the (sadly discontinued PCM-D100) or an F3 with external mic.

    Great video Gary. I’ve been making videos in Thailand for a channel called Farangbowl Magazine for 2yrs now to include doing interviews. I also have a Zoom H5N, however, I’ve come across an issue that I wanted to run by you. I have a Rode Wireless GO II that I plug into the top line in of the Zoom, however, when I edit in Post in Premier Pro it won’t let me stereo split the audio left and right which is a right pain in the butt when adjusting levels and EQ. The audio is just a mono recording of the two Rode Mics. Is it not possible to use the Line In like this and better to use an adapter and plug into the bottom of the zoom for a stereo recording? Your thoughts on this are much appreciated!

    Nice video!
    I want to use a rode videomicro mic plugged in the 1/2 inputs of the H5.
    Do you know if I can use a 6.3mm (into the H5) to 3.5mm (to mic) jack cable, too? . What type of cable do I need and what type of plygin/phantom power I have to choose?
    Thanks in advance

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  Před rokem +1

      Yes same as video. The VideoMicro uses plug-in power like a lav mic. You just have to be sure the adapter is not stereo.

    Great video. Thank you. I have the 'passive' 3.5mm to XLR converter. It only works with the Boya microphone that has a battery integrated in it. When I try Rode's Lavalier microphone (no battery), Zoom h5 doesn't pick any sound. Is there a way to power those Rode lav mics? Or another way to make them work? I don't want to plug them into the XY5 , but want to use 2 lavalier microphones plugged in to the XLR inputs. Thank you for your help
