Florida 2024 - Episode 3 (Florida Gulf Coast)

Sue, Cassie, and I arrived at Oscar Scherer State Park on January 21, 2024. It is minutes away from the white sandy beaches of the Gulf Coast, including Siesta Key. During our 10 day stay at Oscar Scherer State Park we rented a car to explore the area, dine at various seafood restaurants, and generally enjoy the beauty of the gulf coast. Our visits included the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens at History Spanish Point which included an exhibit of Clyde Butcher's black and white photographs. We also visited the Venice Audubon Rookery Park and Sarasota's Celery Fields where Sue capture some great photos of birds. One of our favorite activities was renting a boat, and cruising up and down the inter-coastal waterway from Venice to Sarasota Bay. After our ten day stay at Oscar Scherer State Park we drove about 25 miles northeast to Myakka River State Park where we stayed for 4 days. We enjoyed riding our bikes, taking a boat tour, and a tram tour. Sue captured some great photos of birds throughout our visit on the Gulf Coast.
