Thank you for making the video. first one I found that covers the complete rebuild of the Briggs and Stratton engine. Your video helped me rebuild my push mower.
This how i got started with small lawn mower engine i used to cut grassy for my community 10 bux a lawns me my father found a cpl lawn mowers in the garbage bumped we got one going to my little business and after month later some of my money i saved up me and my dad went bought new parts and other stuff like blade and we started rebuilding one push mower i was able to cut more lawns in short amount of time i save enough money for the following summer for used riding lawn mower 😊
Pro tip: your lawnmower will last a little longer if you fill engine oil after 'restoration' . Also remember to apply a little oil onto the air filter sponge.
After watching this clip I degreased and sprayed my Masport B and S lawnmower, sprayed the body with a can of enamel black ,gave it an oil change. Looks good , starts first pull with some fresh petrol . going to spray the lawnmower body soon . B and S sure know how to make great motors . Great clip , thanks for sharing the knowledge with us all :)
You should show the can labels on the cleaners and paint. I know you are using heat resistant paint and engine cleaner, but some watching this might think you are using dollar store paint and window cleaner. A little explanation instead of music would be more beneficial too.
You should be using a torque wrench on the head bolts. Otherwise the thing I will point out to a lot of folks is this isn't a car engine, a typical 15 year old B&S engine probably doesn't have more than 200-300 hours of use on it so you can use a lot of barnyard meckanic tricks on it and it will likely outlast whatever it's used on. Most mower decks seem to rust out as people do not clean the bottom of them after use, leaving wet grass stuck to the bottom of the deck, ruining it. Back in the 60's a few lawnmower companies (Hahn for example) used aluminum castings for mower decks and those mowers lasted 50 years or longer.
the best engine restoration ever seen, unfortunatly I cannot understand well the( simply) electric intervention so that I must give up with the end of my restoration
congratulation to excelent video!... Please wear work gloves to protect your hands... God bless you and your families and friends... Best regards from Santiago of Chile, SouthAmerica!
I noticed you left off the oil breather elbow at the carb. Was there a reason? The open pipes let oil droplets coat the outside of the carb and tank, and the inlet to the carb can suck trash into the venturi. It will run ok for a while that way but it will cause problems over time. It's been a long time since I tore down an old Briggs. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Hello and a big thank you because thanks to you I have just rebuilt my engine and I would never have done it alone. When starting the engine it smokes a lot and seems to be heating up. I do not know if it's normal. Maybe it's the engine break-in? I also don't know if this engine has a starter and a regulator?
Das war noch Qualität. Obwohl hergestellt in China.
👍👍 think you should invest in an impact driver or wrench .... and I'm surprised you didn't give the deck a lick of paint while you had the engine off ... good job tho 👍👍👍👍
I'm gonna rebuild our 1970s Norlett mower's Briggs 3.5HP engind it is different from the one you work on it has the recuil assembly mounted on the right side and the fueltank, carburetor and air filter base is different 😄
@@benhart7469 its when you take a grinding compound (looks like a paste with fine micro sanding/ grinding granules) and smear it around the inside at the top of the valves, drop it into the engine (where the valves go), make use of a grinding tool (With a “rubber sucker” on the end and a shaft to roll/ grind with your hands..imagine making a fire in the field motion), which will grind away any carbon around the valves, while at the same time polish and embed/ “seal” the new valves.
Hello can i ask you where can i buy filters, sealings. I would like to restoration motor too but i cant find website to order thing like filters and sealings.
If you see this man hopping on one foot, then you know why. Never install a blade without it's HOP/Toro adapter or else, as Thomas Magiera said; Great way to lose a foot.

A trip back down memory lane. I've rebuilt many of theses engines when i was younger
You can't even replace the piston rings in one of these, so how did you rebuild any of them?

Wow amazing. The piston is bigger than I thought.
Outstanding video! Awesome restoration! Thank you very much for sharing!
Thank you for such brilliant B&S engine rebuild presentation👍
I have been restoring mowers for years and would NEVER put a blade on like that. Great way to lose a foot.
Yes, that's actually pretty crazy.
It can also cause a continuous crankshaft imbalance.
WOW! Amazing... you're the best

Very well restoration👍, but the mower deck is dirty.
Excelente vídeo ajudou a resolver todas as dúvidas e economizei uma boa grana a minha máquina é uma Briggs & Stratton

Too bad General Motors never followed the Briggs and Stratton business model.
Nice video. Helpful.

You forgot 3 things. To lap the vales. & check the valve clearance. & to replace 2 oil seals.

Impact wrench might help spare the wrists.
A ring squeezes would be a good investment pure luck if a ring is not broken

when you tapped on the piston against the rings, you lost me. Need to use a ring compression tool
Very good restoration...but the oil refill?
new rings, and seals at bottom and top of crankshaft .also did you lap in the valves? if not you didn't do a complete overhaul
what does lap in the valves mean bud? I'm about to restore mine
