This was taken from the end of an NBC Dateline piece on the events surrounding the death of one particular Ranger, Sergeant James Casey Joyce, during the notorious "Black Hawk Down" battle. It aired in the summer of 94.
At the end, then Lt DiTomasso (retired as LCol) and Sgt Keni Thomas poignantly describe what they hoped people will take away from the sad losses suffered that day.

People don't understand why we have to intercede in the affairs of another country; which sometimes involve combat. The answer is that the USA has international interests to ensure America continues to function as the shining example of what freedom really is. People don't understand that hundreds of nations rely on us for protection and also to provide them with the necessities for their country to survive.
America isn't perfect , but we are perfect in our motivations and the sacrifice of the American serviceman should always be looked at with reverence and to never be described as a waste.

For the sake of god, if you want to know about the Malaysian soldiers, then ask your government to make a documentary or movie on it and stop moaning about why we do not talk about your soldiers.. During this battles, there were Navy Seals, Air Force Special Tactics Teams, US Army Green Berets and even some SAC Case officer from the CIA involved but you won't hear any of them moan about why they are not in movies or documentaries..
