- No deportation flights to Rwanda will take off under a Labour government, Sir Keir Starmer has told Sky News.
The Labour leader told Sky News' political editor Beth Rigby "there'll be no flights" as he wants to "scrap the scheme", which aims to send asylum seekers entering the UK illegally from a safe country, such as France, to Rwanda.

Literally, also at least very questionable in terms of obedience towards international laws and treaties, and therefore rather harmful towards the perception of the UK by a lot of important international institutions, NGO’s, activists and the general community (rightfully so)

While watching this i couldn't help notice how awful the reporter was asking him easy questions zero scrunity on his policy or how it would stop the boats and people smugglers saying she was poor is an understatement

Fun fact the people we would’ve sent there would be issued a Rwandan passport. One of the conditions of the scheme is that we can’t deport anyone with a Rwandan passport.
Given the amount we would be paying they could easily put them on a flight back after they get their passport and pocket the difference.

Israel had a "voluntary departure" scheme for 4,000 migrant deportations with Rwanda between 2014 and 2017. Most were driven straight to the border. Almost all are thought to have left the country almost immediately, with many attempting to return to Europe via people-smuggling routes.
Rwandan homes that were previously earmarked to house migrants deported from the UK have already been sold to local buyers. the developer has said.
Some 70% of the 163 affordable homes on the Bwiza Riverside estate have been sold, the developer ADHI-Rwanda said.
On top of the £220 million Britain has already paid Rwanda, the UK government has agreed to pay an extra £150 million over the next three years, and £120 million pounds once the first 300 asylum seekers have been resettled, the National Audit Office (NAO) said on Friday 1st March 2024.

As opposed to what? The status quo that is £11,000 per ticket to Rwanda per person + £20,000 to Rwanda's govt per person on the plane + another £120 Million! after 300 people have arrived. For what? Sending a a couple of hundred people to Rwanda each year. Doesn't even touch the sides mate. That money could be better spent on something that might actually work.

Going after the gangs is just a slogan, Britain already does that. Processing them faster just moves the housing, education and health bill from the Home Office to local authorities. 72% are approved and those that are not can't be deported anyway thanks to the ECHR and the HRA. The only good idea is to let the migrants apply and process them in mainland Europe. Once they are here we have nothing to bargain with, but by agreeing to take a capped security checked number off EU countries hands, means we can demand an automatic return policy in exchange for any that cross the channel and don't use the official system. Plus we don't need to house them, deport them, or worry about how fast we process them, as they are not here yet.
