Thanks for your videos. I lived in Platten from 69 to 72. Stayed in the Ambassador Arms for week. Dad worked in the Farben Building. Loved the Idle Hour Theatre.

Hello... Platen Housing Area to me is legendary... It's diversity of different US Armed Forces' branches and families all living together, was really unique, beneficial and enjoyed by me. I first came to Germany and Frankfurt in June of 1977. And, I liked meeting military families from all departments of the mission, because I noticed at a young age that there was a bit of a difference in mentality, identity and pride, Etc., in each - which was intriguing. Like, the Air Force families mentality was different from the Army families. And, the Marine families mentality Etc., was different from the Army and Air Force families - even though we all lived in the same housing community and were all US citizens and pretty much with the same culture, religion, and patriotism. Platen Housing was also pretty big compared to most housing areas, and in my day it had everything for sports activites, including the AYA / DYA, the best athletes, and the prettiest girls... BTW, I made a video about Platen Housing Area back in 2013 or so. Just check the uploads if you'd like to see it. Thanx for stoppin' by.

Amazing to see all the changes since I graduated in 1978! Thank you for sharing. Nice to see at least the building we all remember still looks much as it did back in the day. Just hard to believe that storied football field is no more.

Remember the snack shack between the main classes and the annex? The best currywurst and schnitzel sandwiches ever! 82-84, would have been class of 85 but the old man retired! Cheers to all the Brats! Good Times !

Saw Jayne Mansfield at the FAHS football field during an Army inter squad game in 1956(or 57). She flipped the coin for kickoff. She had on a fur coat and spike heels that sunk into the ground. I got her autograph! My Army Dad worked in the Farben Bldg. My Dad was in a bowling league and sometimes I would accompany him and go to the Idle Hour theater while he was bowling. I almost got run over at a crosswalk right by the high school on Miquelallee because it was my first encounter with a push button traffic signal. I pushed the button and ran across immediately without waiting for the light to change and almost was hit by a DKW that made a squealing stop a few feet from me. Driver was yelling at me. I was 9 and had never seen one of those before. No Autobahn there then.

WoW! What a fantastic historical story of events, Rod. SMH... Jayne Mansfield on Eagle Field with her heels sinking into the turf... (LOL!) No Autobahn exit or entrance on Miquelallee next to the school... Legendary, sir! You know, by the way, if you still have that autograph and need some extra cash, you could probably sell that autograph on many different platforms... Like a fan site, a celebrity auction site, or on Ebay, for example. Just saying... Nevertheless, thanx for sharing that!

Thank you for this. I was curious to see what happened to the area. I went to Frankfurt in 1992 when it was decided that the 9th graders from Tuner Jr High at Rhein Main be moved to Frankfurt. I ended at up moving when my father retired in '94 and finished my sophomore year state side.

Yes, indeed. I know what you mean... Because I was here in Frankfurt in 1980, at the Drake Edwards Junior High School, thinking I was grown because of my peach-fuzz mustache growing in, and because of the life changing things I was learning about in my Adolescents, Living, & Sex class... LOL! The birds and the bees story right then, became so Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street like to me. LOL! And, the beat goes on... Thanx for stoppin' by.
