A very different style of video for me but I've really enjoyed making this Photo/Video diary. I'd love to know what you think - would you like to see more videos like this?
Fantastic, and I'm only 10 mins in! Really impressive quality on my big screen, and good storytelling about the trip. Top stuff mate, would love to see more like this.
I watched the whole lot, and loved every minute. This is as about as good as any photography channel I watch, keep at it; I guarantee your channel will blow up soon. Excellent photography too, forgot to mention that part - kinda important lol. Thanks a lot for some quality Friday entertainment.
@@MrSimonj1970 Thank you so much, that really means a lot to me!
Loved it! 👏👏👏
amazing photos & video! Could you have taken them in HDR?
O M G. This is S T U N N I N G! Rick, you have captured the trip so eloquently. I don't tend to get emotional about many things but this had me close to tears with how you have managed to incorporate everything we saw and did and the feeling of being there. Congratulations on this absolute stunner! You are legend. Thank you for your labours pulling this together and sharing with everyone on YT. Glad your kids and their school got to hear about it too.
Aston, thank you so much!! It still get's me as well and I've sat through it I don't know how many times now. It felt like such an amazing privilege to be there and be able to make something like this. Hope you are well anyway, hopefully cross paths again soon :)
An absolute feat of creativity. The footage, the photos - so many that I think are print-worthy, the storytelling! Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Antarctica from such a personal lens as yours Rick!
Thanks you so much Moly 🙏🏻 I can’t wait to get some prints sorted actually! So glad you enjoyed it
I have no words...once again. This video is incredible and brings back so many memories to my mind. Goosebumps, smiles, nostalgia...so many feelings living those beautiful moments again through your video and storytelling.
Thank you for sharing this video with us and for your wise words all along.
It was an honor to meet you there.
Wow, thank you Valentin. It was great to meet you too - so glad you enjoyed this ☺️
Excellent and beautiful video, Rick! :D
Cheers Mads, appreciate it!
Have watched a few other videos from this trip and I must say you do have style. Many thanks for a very enjoyable 40 minutes of video.
Cheers, much appreciated!
I have watched some of the YT channels of others on the same trip: their presentations or series of shorter videos. And I found your take to be the most interesting in part because you seem to say that it was two journeys: your personal journey and then the Antarctic journey with the ice and seals etc. Also the pace of your YT video matched the pace of spending several days on a ship and the many rides around on the Zodiacs and the hour or two plodding along in the landscape getting some shots. Occasional it was as if I was there (never been) whereas some of the other passenger's videos are more of - *them* - being in Antarctica whereas you were more bringing us there if you understand.
Thanks for a great video. I too am torn between going there vs the act of going there is slowly chipping away at the place. Perhaps you went there for the rest of us. 👍
Thank you Joe, I really appreciate that. As with most things, I wanted to do this a bit differently so I’m glad it seems to have landed differently. Thanks again for watching and for your kind words.
Breathtaking on all levels. I’m so happy the CZcams algorithm suggested this. Fantastic video and photos
Your are very humble photographer which is rare these days. Thanks!
Thanks Paul, I appreciate it :)
Amazing trip. And another shoutout for Endurance by Alfred Lansing. One of the best books I’ve ever read. I immediately wanted to read everything else Lansing wrote, but there are no other books, just articles. In any case, it’s a real masterpiece of writing and journalism.
Incredible images Rick! Thanks for sharing! You're definitely not an imposter. Keep up the good work! I'm scheduled to go to Antarctica in January of 2025. If my trip is half as amazing I will be thrilled. I'm battling some health issues and hoping it won't keep me away from this trip. I completely understand your concerns about our environmental impact. I am wrestling with those same thoughts.
Thanks David, I appreciate it. It's an incredible place, I really hope that you get to go 🤞🏻
@@RickBebbington Thanks Rick!
Hi Rick .. i am Abdullah from Oman.
I just watched your CZcams about your trip to Antarctica, and I wanted to tell you how much it resonated with me. It beautifully captured the essence of such a unique place, and it brought back a flood of memories and emotions from my own trip in December 2028. Watching your journey unfold was both nostalgic and deeply moving, making me relive those moments all over again. Thank you for sharing your adventure and for stirring such poignant memories. It was truly a pleasure to watch.
Like you, I'm not keen on and not really able to tolerate a rough sea. I even have trouble being a passenger in someone else's car. So I won't ever travel to Antarctica. But I'm grateful that there are travelers like yourself who brave those conditions and can share the experience. You've enabled me to live it through your work. And on the environmental side, maybe there will be a few less tourists like me because of work like yours. I'm humbled by the beauty of this planet. Thank you, Rick. I look forward to receiving my certificate...
As a new viewer of your work, I really enjoyed this video. I have seen many Antarctica videos, but yours showed the real ups and downs and also how the environment changed you. Your work is beautiful!
I had high hopes for this and you didn’t disappoint, much like the trip itself.
Your footage and images are really spectacular, but your closing message on this video is everything! Keep being awesome Rick 🙌🏻
Thank you so much Rhiannon ☺️☺️ that really does mean a lot to me
Your film aout Antarctica was truly mesmerizing, capturing breathtaking sceneries that took me on an awe-inspiring journey. The visually stunning narrative and captivating storyline kept me glued to the screen until the very end. Your dedication to promoting environmental conservation through your work is truly commendable and inspiring, leaving a lasting impression on me.
Thank you so much Katy, I'm glad it made an impression on you!
Excellent. I’ve watched loads of videos on photography in these wild places and yours is first class. Thank you.
Wonderful images and video footage for both landscape and wildlife. Excellent narration too.
That’s what you call an adventure.
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it. It really was!!
Bloody brilliant footage, stills, video, and the capper for me was your narration of the sights, sounds, smells and emotions you’d experienced. Like others have commented before me, I too got emotional watching aspects of this, smiled at it through teary eyes (happy tears). Terrific coverage and history lesson. Very envious of the circles of people you travel with as an avid consumer of Nigel’s/Adam and Mass’s work. Thanks for curating this experience and serving it up to us in such a wholly enjoyable fashion. Cheers~Peter
Great video, I love how peaceful it feels. Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!!
Beautiful video Rick with stunning pictures. My favourite by a country mile is the Penguin at 28.00. Also some superb panos. Good to hear you've got your spark back.
Thanks Alan, I appreciate it.
Thank you for sharing such an emotional and thought provoking video, story of a journey for you, into the unknown.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you Rick for a beautiful, authentic, and honest take on Antarctica. You managed to tell the story of its beauty, challenging photography, complicated travel, complex climate impact, and personal thoughts in a completely authentic way. I don't normally have the patience for such long form videos but your skill and engaging style kept me fully invested until the end.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Rick this is an amazing video. I normally watch CZcams videos on my phone or tablet and got about ten minutes in and enjoying it so much that I felt it had to be watched on the big TV, so, back to the start and cast to the telly.
The video and images are stunning and complemented by the narration. Thank you for sharing and I'm looking forward to Patagonia.
Thank you so much Chris, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Rick for this breathtaking video which - in my opinion - gave the best insights to this Antartica trip. I really love it and absolutely enjoyed watching 😍
Wow, thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed it.
A absolutely stunning video Rick. fantastic footage, shots and commentary,, the whole lot really... thank you for sharing it....
looking forward to receiving the certificate in the post 😉
I just hope I've got your address right 😅
Thanks Eddie, appreciate it.
Brilliant and stunning video Rick, brings back so many memories and this a fantastic reflection on our time in Antarctica.
Thanks Bernie, glad you enjoyed it!
First, Congratulations! 🎉. Second, WOW! WOW!
I have seen many photographers' journeys to places like this and I loved yours so much. Because you mixed in the gorgeous and thoughtful video footage and voiceover, it really brought it to life for me.
Of course, the photos are inspiring.
Well done. Obviously, this was a physical journey as well as a journey of the soul.
Thank you for sharing this in an authentic way.
.... and I look forward to my certificate in the post.
Sorry, it took me so long to view it. We have been filming the hot, dry desert - battling beautiful vistas, moon rises, blowing sand, and being totally off the communication grid.
Excellent thought provoking video and stills. I was very fortunate to be one of the 90 there with you to experience the grandeur, beauty and tranquility of this place.
it is these places that can change you view on the world for me it was crossing North Africa and the Sahara desert many years ago. You realise just how small we are in this world.
That sounds like a fantastic experience! You're absolutely right.
Excellent travelogue and outstanding commentary. Surely the trip of a lifetime. Carry on. 👍🥂
Thank you! Will do!
Superb video Pal! The footage is stunning, the shots deserve to be printed and your narration was on point to tie it all together perfectly 💪👏
Thank you so much mate, I can't wait to get into printing them actually. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
I have no words to describe this video but just have to say that was 42 minutes of very thoughtful words and images. So well done!
Beautiful spoken. Always nice to hear photographers reevaluate their journey. Well done and thank you for your open and honest review on of your trip.
Am new to your channel, Rick. Have seen some of your colleagues videos, but this one is outstanding, and funny! You certainly captured the penguins being in their ‘happy place’, not to mention some superb photography. Being a retired historian, I appreciated your photographing inside the huts and mentioning their historical aspects. Many thanks for taking the time to produce this wonderful video. You’re not just a photographer but also a marvellous videographer. Just fantastic! Will look at this again.🇦🇺
Thank you so much, this really means a lot to me and I'm glad you appreciated the historical aspects. I've become a bit obsessed with the place since I came back! I still need to work out what happened to that doctor though....! Thanks again :)
Always fantastic and look forward to every one, but this one is outstanding. Thanks for keeping it real and looking forward to next one!!!
Cheers Kyle, always a pleasure having you here. I'm so glad you liked it!
So beautiful, so well done, so inspiring, stupendous!
Thank you so much Stephen!
Rick, your images and narration capture this experience with such artistry, honesty and clarity. You distilled brilliantly many if not most of the emotions and challenges we all dealt with during the trip. Eagerly look forward to seeing where your photographic journey takes you.
Best
Thanks Allan 👍🏻 I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Take care!
Congratulations! The images and video work are terrific. Thank you for sharing your adventure!
Thank you very much Brian
Great video, Rick. Incredible images. More please.
wonderful
thanks!
A beautiful video. Thak you for sharing your footage, images and thoughts on this elusive place for most. I felt very humbled and small when trekking through the Himalayas so I can imagine how being in Antarctica would feel but 10 x stronger.
Thank you, I appreciate it. That's something I'd love to do, that and the the Karakorams... one day!
I was in Antarctica in January, and I share your awe and wonder of this beautiful place. Like being on another planet. Beautiful job with your descriptions and thanks for sharing!
Thanks, glad I did it justice!
Rick - outstanding work, and an absolutely wonderful message regarding the environment and the part we play in its conversation. Thank you for sharing the trip… and the images.
Breathtaking, awe-inspiring, with a cinematic/documentary feel. I thoroughly enjoyed your video journal, although my enjoyment was tinged with sadness at what we stand to lose due to climate change. Thank you Rick for capturing a moment in time so beautifully.
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Ehm... Hard to find the right words. What amazing documentation/video/film. For me, this is one of the best videos about photography I've seen on CZcams for a long time. Your message, the story, the craft, the PICTURES. Just wow. Thanks for going the extra mile and let us see what you experienced in such great art.
Yeah and maybe I'm so hyped because I'm dreaming of getting there myself. 😁 Thanks a lot, Rick! Great work!
Absolutely stunning in every possible way, Rick. Thought-provoking, inspiring and makes me wish that I was 30 years younger; when I was, such an adventure as this simply wasn't an option for "ordinary" people. Well done for producing this remarkable, honest and moving account of your adventure and being so open as to how it has affected you.
Wow... thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Well done Rick. Your video truly captures the feeling and experience most of us had on this trip. It was fun and I appreciate your leadership on this this wonderful adventure. Great memories . . . .
Thanks David, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Great to meet you!!
Rick thanks for sharing your experience with us. Wonderful awe inspiring images and video … but so much more. Really impactful.
More please!
Thank you
You're welcome!
Stunning photographs alongside even keeled narration made for time well spent. Thanks for a small moment of Zen. Well done, Rick.
Great video with great insights. I have been requiring my Oceanography students to read Lansing's Endurance for the last 35 years.
Thanks!! I can see why, it's an incredible book.
Was witness to the same awe and wonder that you must have felt. Amazing portrait 🙏
Watched every second of your video. Thank you for sharing this with us and keep doing what you're doing. You definitely brought massive inspiration and love for what this earth has given us. Thank you!
Really, really amazing! Fantastic video, wonderful images, beautiful stories and narration. Thank you very much for sharing it!
It's brutal but awesome part of the world and you did a fantastic job recording it.
Thanks Ian 👍🏻
Absolutely nailed Antarctica, well done. So many incredible memories brought back to me of my trip there in 2023, thank you
Ahhh, I'm glad it had that effect!! Thank you so much!
La cosa che ho preferito in tutto il video, l'importanza che dai al sentirsi al proprio agio mentre si fotografa. Grazie per l'insegnamento.
An inspiring film - thoughtful and insightful storytelling, beautiful videography and sublime photography. I love this kind of video - watched all the way to the end! Please do more of this kind of thing.
Thank you so much Chris, I will!
Well done, Rick. Enjoyed this immensely.
Thanks David, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Such an amazing piece of work. Well done on every account.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for that wonderful story and images. I watched all of it. I loved the penguin shots so much. So pleased you have found happiness again in photography. You deserve 100s more followers and likes. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Chris, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate that a lot, as long as I can keep having fun, that's the main thing ☺️
Absolutely brilliant! Very much appreciate your honest views and especially your style of photography and videography. Refreshingly beautiful (pun intended)
Thank you for sharing . Absolutely magnificent. You have changed my thoughts on visiting cold locations.
Absolutely stunning, love you your style , thank you for sharing
Thank you, Rick! I ventured to Antarctica on March 11 of this year and can agree with you; it is an amazing and inspiring place. Your video has inspired me to dive deeper into photography and embrace it further.
That's great to hear - I hope you have fun doing it!!
This was so inspiring storry-telling about such a remote place where it is a dream like visit to it. Thank you for every single word and effort that was put to show us this piece of art. ❤
This is by far one of the most beutiful video I've ever seen on youtube !...
Such wonderful images - definitely no need for imposter syndrom! Many thanks for sharing this great video 🤩
What a video Rick that was bloody amazing, very inspiring and interesting. Well done buddy i loved it 🙏🏻💪.
Cheers Carl!
Thos is a fabulous video Rick, as well as being authentic and beautifully crafted you don't shy away from the environmental impact. Love that you will be talking to the children about it 👏
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it
Stunning thank you for sharing
Thanks!!
I really like the way you presented this not like travel vlog nor a documentary, but a perfect balance of the two. You made me want to film videos for my channel in Antarctica some day! 😍
Thanks, I appreciate that. It's a style I hope to do more of 👍🏻 I hope you can get there one day!
Absolutely lovely! Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome! Thank you
Stunning shots Rick and a wonderful video! Thanks for sharing...
Bravo my friend 👏👏... Rick from the amazing video footage and frankly fantastic still captures you have perfectly presented the sheer joy ,magnitude, and indescribable journey we experienced, made ever more special by the ability to share it with special friends like you with like minds and the vision as photographers to appreciate the wonder of the world we were privileged to experience together .... I could feel and relive the excitement and sense of awe and wonder I felt with every moment of this video and frankly can't wait till we can do it again in 2026 🙏🏼... You should. be quite proud of this one Rick. And what a great present to all of us lucky enough to have been there .... Someday your kids will look at this video with more mature and knowledgeable views and say with pure admiration ... "My dad did that !!" Bravo my friend ... Till next time .... Best Art
There’s something in my eyes 🥹🥹
Thank you so much Art. It was great to share the adventure with you and all the other incredible guests. I certainly hope so, it’s a big part of why I do what I do 😊
😅😊😇😍😍
What a wonderful video. Fantastic images and films and brilliantly narrated. I was lucky enough to make 4 trips 'south' in the late 1980's and early 90's on research ships and would so love to go back!
Thank you!! That must have been a wonderful experience. I too would love to go back despite just having gone!
Truly superb images, presented very effectively. Thank you for sharing.
Really enjoyed this one. And looking forward to my certificate!
Thanks Mat!! Haha!!
Finally got around to watching this one. Thanks for sharing this massive vid! Glad to hear you're feeling good and I really liked that stormy lookin photo from the Drake Passage
What a stunning piece of film, Rick. Really, really enjoyed that. Somehow, photos on Instagram don’t do much for me. This works!
Cheers mate, really appreciate it - glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I’ve enjoyed the trip ❤
Rick this is INCREDIBLE. Loved watching and seeing how well you're doing!
Thank you so much Liam!! Glad you enjoyed it, appreciate you watching :) Hope you are well 👍🏻
I love how everyone who's posted a video of this trip has a completely different take on it. As you said, 90 odd photographers all had a slightly different angle and saw something different.
I'm really hoping the trip is on again in 2026, I already have my name down for it.
What a beautiful well narrated story of your incredible experience. I thoroughly enjoyed your journey and look forward to seeing more of your channel in the future.
Thank you Kerrie
I've seen a few videos from that trip. Yours is the one that stands out the most & would make me want to go & spend a fortune to photograph some icebergs 😀
Wow, thanks - that means a lot :)
Wow Rick what an amazing antarctic video. I have watched many photography videos of this area and yours tops the list by a mile. You made it feel like I was almost there! Keep up the amazing work😀
What a nice comment, thank you! It means a lot to me :)
Wow!
No imposter seen here. Amazing video work and photography. Thank you so much for sharing
So nice of you - thanks!
This is a wonderful video. I love how you report on the highs and lows and the challenges you faced both photographically and emotionally. I really appreciated your honesty! On a tech note, (which I ask reluctantly) I can see that you would need a long lens for many if not most of the shots but what did you do when you got in the zodiacs and got closer to the icebergs. Did you have two cameras? Two lenses?
Thank you so much! I did have 2 cameras, but I didn't shoot any stills on one of them (the A7SIII as it's 12MP and more for video). I had to try and work out which lens would work best depending on the location as I didn't want to be switching lenses in the zodiac (although I did do this once or twice). If you consider the images, the majority were shot on the 60-600mm. If I knew we'd be in close proximity to Icebergs I went with the 24-70mm and hoped I wouldn't need to go longer!! I always had my Fuji X100V in my pocket, so could pull that out and grab something at 35mm (FF equivalent) on that. It was hard to decide though!! I think once I'd made peace with the fact that I couldn't take everything AND make something compelling, it was easier to be comfortable with my lens decision and commit to that. I hope that helps!!
@@RickBebbington thank you for your thoughtful reply.
What a brilliant video, would love to visit Antarctica one day, in reality, I don’t think I ever will, its videos like yours Rick that keeps my hopes alive , thank you.
Thank you!! It's no doubt a tricky place to visit but it's well worth the effort. I hope you get there one day 👍🏻
That was such a spectacular video. Loved every minute of it. Stunning images and footage
Thanks!!
great video... inspiring!
Very nice, thoughtful video, thanks!
Stunning
Thanks :)
One of the best videos I've seen from this trip, thank you!🤩
Thank you so much!
Great video and stills. Uplifting with a thoughtful edge. What’s not to like!
Cheers, appreciate it!
Video of the year ❤ loved it your images rock 🤘 and yes they are indeed up there with the you tube royalty 👏👏👏
🤯🤯 thank you so much Andy!
Nicely done
Fantastic video and images, this is a fantastic ad for any future trips to Antarctica 😃
Rick, this is amazing. Thank you so much.
