She was a pro from day one it’s hard to believe it was even her first time😂
hahah thank you! I just had it easier, because I played the piano before :D
@@magda_plays : Might have been more appropriate to say Musician Changes
Instrument!
Oh that makes sense that you could read the notes and played with two hands! Really nicely played
a musician can learn harp MUCH sooner than a non-musician harp beginner ; there's a huge difference between the two in terms of progress...
What about someone who plays classical guitar? Doesn’t seem much difficult considering is only plucking
because harp lessons are so expensive im learning the piano first for a while so i learn an extra instrument and im using the most of my money.
This makes me wanna learn the harp instead of the piano
You’re so lucky to make such quick progress. Please tell me you already knew how to read music and played piano before . I’ve been learning for nearly 18 months, although I didn’t get much time last year to practice at all. I am absolutely nowhere close to playing like you did after a few months. This makes me feel quite bad but I do love playing.
Excellent progress in such a short time! Your playing is so beautiful and expressive. I play flute too (and other instruments, but not piano) and have also been on the harp a little over a year. My progress is much slower but I’m getting there. I agree the harp is a beginner-friendly instrument. All the best for your future harp performances! ~ Lisa
The harp is *THE* most beautiful instrument-don’t @ me
Probably Buddha I play piano I’ve Been playing for 6 years now and piano goes over this by a lot
I’d say it’s the violin and the harp. They’re the most beautiful to me. Then piano 😌✨
Clarinet and flute for me. 😏
I would say violin as well, but I know you have to spend ages playing like laaaa laaaaa EEEEEEEEEEEEEE laaaaa EEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Those high pitched out of tune wrong notes really go through me 😭
I’ve been struggling with insomnia and this made me so drowsy and sleepy in such a long time!!! I’m so appreciative of this harmonic instrument
I'm so happy to see this video! I have wanted to save up for a harp for years now, and now that my financial situation actually allows me to save the money for it, I've been looking around more seriously to see if there are any useful and informative videos around. Your progress and dedication are so encouraging, it makes me even more exited to start!
Oh, I'm so happy, thank you! So how is it going? I really hope you will find your dream harp soon ♥️
I bought sharpsicle 36 most. To pay without interest. It's easier to pay that way
This is an extraordinary progress for only one year - amazing
Well done! I've been a musician for 50 yrs, starting with piano then classical guitar, then finally focusing on drums for the last 47 yrs. Several yrs ago I bought a Celtic harp. I wish there was someone around to give lessons but there isn't. I play around with it but when there's no teacher, it's hard to improve. You've done a great job in a short period of time! Keep it up!!
That's amazing progress!! Keep it up!🥰
This gives me hope! I just bought myself a Celtic harp! I play violin, clarinet, some piano and guitar so I can already sight read and play by ear. I’m loving it! Mine has 29 strings.
Gives me hope and inspiration!
So cool, love the sound of a harp. Really want to take this instrument up !
Simply exquisite sounds. Gorgeous
Thanks for sharing. I loved watching… hearing your progress!
Omg!!! I heard some Shadow of the colossus there and I almost fainted!! Such a good job! I am so proud!! You play beautifully! Keep being you!
How inspiring. I just bought my first harp today, and this is the first video I've watched. I can't wait to get started. I'll be looking forward to your two year video.
Thanks for the wonderful video! I’m going to build a harp and start playing, hopefully soon.
Well done bravo!!!! 4 monts- new harp seemed like a huge change! One can see you were very diligent and practiced a lot!!!
I commented one year ago saying I was starting playing the harp and after one year I am so extremely in love with this instrument and enjoyining every practice day and improvment.
Thank you for being an inspiration :)
Wow, that's fantastic! I have no idea who you are or where you are in life, but I'm super proud of you for sticking with it and learning such a unique skill. Nice job!
Nicely done! I’ve been playing harp for 2 years now. Getting my first pedal harp at the end of this month. I’m so excited!!
It was so interesting charting your progress from day one, and brave too! I've been playing for a lot longer than a year and still can't play like that.
I started out with one of those Mid-East Manufacturing (Roosebeck) harps as well. It actually hindered my progress for many many years until I bought a Dusty Strings a year and a half ago. I'm glad you moved up from that harp, too. Sounds good and keep it up!
What a Journey 😍 its sooo cool to see someone learn an instrument 🤠😍😍😍😍😍
What amazing progress you have made! I have played for a little over a year too and I feel like I'm nowhere near where you are. But I have no real experience with other instruments though. Thank you for sharing 💖
Inspirational! Thank you.
This gives me hope! I read your description; I play the flute too! (I hope you are healing up from your injury ❤️) My first instrument was the piano, so I also believe that knowledge will help me learn harp!
it will help for sure! :) and thank you, I'm struggling a bit with my injuries, but I'm learning to keep going and not letting them to slow me down that much ^^
Well Done! Much Encouragement and
Support!
Very nice progress! Keep this on!
Thanks for sharing your harp journey. It's so inspirational. I picked up a rental harp two days ago and I'll start my lessons in three weeks. I am a total adult beginner. I'm hopeful I will be able to learn to play the harp as well as you did at the one year mark. Kudos to you.
This is very inspiring! As a musician who recently took up the harp, I have been finding it slow and frustrating, much to my surprise. If I can make progress in any way similar to yours, I will be very happy!
About to win an auction for a celtic harp! I've always adored the harp and being able to learn one, so I'm SUPER excited to begin!
I am going to have to do this when I get my new harp - post various day week progress - sounds like fun.
Congratulations! God bless you!
Ive had my harp for a year now as well, i thought my progress was very good up to now (thank you very much) All kidding aside, lovely work, i appreciate the time and sweat that went into that. Love the Eiunadi, i know how to play a lot of his songs on piano already, so naturally they translate well onto the harp.
What?!! Planxty George Brabizon on Day 7?? You are amazing. I've just started a couple of weeks ago, and I have progressed beyond Joy to the World, but that's ok. You are doing beautifully, and your videos are very inspiring.
I love the harp so much
This was amazing! As an adult student it was encouraging to see your progress. Thank you for posting this video. 🙏🎶😊
Great job. Its aspirational.
I want to learn play harp the problem there are no available tutor around and harp is uncommon here. Can you recommend me how to learn play the harp ? and recommend me several harps that I can buy.
Sure, Ali! Do you have Instagram? You could DM me there so that I can give you a few tips :)
@@magda_plays I can't seem to dm you privately it is complicated in youtube. I do have instagram.
@@Mr.Ali_Ryuji I don't know if it's possible to DM anyone on CZcams, but you can DM me on Instagram :)
You can get a very nice harp from budget harp rentals. They ship worldwide. It's a rental. Lever harp is $40 a month through PayPal. Pedal harp is $100 I think and then there's a yearly fee for insurance. Look up the website. You can learn to play harp at this website called www.harp-school.com. theres a monthly fee depending on which package you choose. I chose the year commitment for $29.50 a month. And there's many harp teachers that teach over Skype. Look it up. I also learn over Skype with my teacher Karen at www.enjoytheharp.com. hope this all helps.
I'm learning the harp online with www.handsonharps.com/series/harp-tuition-videos/ it can be a bit too easy at the start, but it's going for teaching the basics, and you learn a lot of songs
You and harp are under rated
Bin total beeindruckt.
Good job! Amazing!!!
I want to play the harp the piano and violin cuz there very beautiful instruments to play.
You made that look easy :P
Bon continuation ! 👏👏👏❤️
Great job )) Im also playing harp, only 2 months. And also as you Im pianist ) Wish you all the best 😊🌷
That was lovely, thank you! I really liked the songs you played, can I please ask for a list of the songs you performed in the video? It was magical!
Hi Eri, thank you! :) Here is the list of the songs:
1. Scarborough Fair
2. Planxty George Brabazon
3. Captain O'Kane
4. Captain O'Kane
5. The Foggy Dew
6. Jock o Hazeldean
7. Scarborough Fair
8. Affections Touching Across Time
9. Carolans Quarrel with the Landlady
10. King David and his harp
11. Carolan's Welcome
12. B.Andres - La Gimblette
13. L.Einaudi - Primavera
Greetings!
I have so many instruments I want to learn how to play, and man, I’m going to. You inspired me to wanting to learn harp, or even a lyre harp. I want to learn piano, and kalimba, and even the violin one day. (I’m only twelve). I’m currently only learning piano but I really want to learn other things, too.
I’m adding this to the list of instruments I wanna learn. I’m currently learning the violin, flute, and bass (my grandpa died and he played bass so my mom got one of the five he had). After I learn them I’m gonna learn piano and now harp 😌.
I am not crying, you are.
You play very well. It sounds lovely. Before I even think of learning the harp, I would be very grateful if somebody could tell me if it is possible to play it with a plectrum? - I have very soft skin, it isn't hardy enough to play with just my fingertips. Thanks.
Hi Paloma, thank you so much! I am not a specialist, but if you wish, I can pin your comment, so that it's more visible, maybe someone listening knows about that! What comes to my mind however is picking up a cláirseach instead of this kind of a "celtic" harp. A true Irish harp is most often played with nails and has metal strings. Also the hand position is a bit different. Check out Patrick Ball and Siobhan Armstrong to see if you like that kind of a sound. Greetings :)
Thank you for that information. Yes, I would be very grateful if you would pin my comment. I am totally out of my depth, just that it has been something that interested me (purely for my own pleasure). I will check out Patrick Bell and Siobhan Armstrong to see what that true Irish harp sounds like. I didn't even know that was the origin for the harp. Thanks a lot, much appreciated!
@@magda_plays
The only time plectrums are used in classical harp is for glissandos ( drawing your finger all the way up or down through all the strings) when you are playing in orchestral concerts and have lots if then throughout the set. I personally have never used one in my near 7 years if playing.
You can’t avoid pain and blisters especially when you start playing. If you start out with a light gauge harp and work up (if you are wanting to if course) then it can be easier and not quite as painful as you aren’t pulling on the strings too hard. The Camac Excalibur (the one in the video) is an excellent one but if you want one slightly cheaper then the smaller camac bardic (27 string I believe)/ camac hermine (34 string)is a good starting point. Hope this helps
@@jemimarussell Thank you so much for that information Jemima, I really appreciate it. I am totally out of my depth here I feel, but I have since thought-on and have realized that using a plectrum would not be viable. I did take a look at the Irish harp for playing with finger nails, but it's the sound of the classic harp that I like best. I am also very grateful for your information on price etc. I know nothing about harps at all, it's just something that I have wanted to try for a long time, purely for personal pleasure. And, thanks again to the young lady who replied originally.
I don't know of this will help any or not but, if you are wanting a harp-like sound without worrying about damage to your fingertips, I would suggest the hammered dulcimer (not a regular dulcimer but a hammered one, there's a difference). On this instrument, you strike the strings with two little hammers rather than plucking them with your fingers.
And, I love the two compared versions of Scarborough Fair!!!
Hot damn, you progressed fast
Wow, in nur einem Jahr so weit gekommen. Bravo.
Wow, what a cool video. My harp comes tomorrow. I'm pretty excited. I hope I have the commitment and motivation to stick with it. But I have no idea aside from it being an official student harp what Im getting. Not size or number of strings aside from being like a table top type. I don't know what I'll be able to manage with my disabilities but I'm anxious to try. Guitars have always been hard on my wrists but im dying to play real strings. Piano is great but it can't make this sound. The strings sound. I know piano uses strings as well but it's very different. But all ill need is some percussives and maybe ill make whole songs. But this gives me hope. Thank you forbsharing this.
Your so good!!!
Lovely job! It's amazing to see your progress through the year! I loved your arrangement of Scarborough Fair - could you please share where you got it? I just got a Lyon and Healy Petite, and can't wait to start my lessons - although I too am an experienced musician, a pedal harp is intimidating!!! Thanks :)
I really like the song you played in the field
I'am playing for 4 years now its so fun
This is lovely. Did you play the piano before starting the harp? In my experience, there is a huge difference between a beginner with no musical background, specifically someone who doesn't play the piano and someone who does. Being able to play piano is a huge help in learning the harp. Either way, wow, this is amazing to watch and listen to, but the piano information might be a great addition so beginners without piano experience aren't put off by how good you are from day one! Of course, if you don't have piano experience, I am doubly amazed by how fast you progressed! Thank you for sharing this with us aspiring harpists!
More harps than seasons that year... good year.
What can I say… mistakes were made at the beginning and I had to find the one 😆
I so wanna learn they’re just so expensive
Sorry for the late answer. You could try renting one for a while before you buy your own!
Such a great progress!
It really helps when you can play other instruments - for me it's also the piano and in addition saxophone and some basics on a guitar.
But I still struggle a little with my mini harp, haha.
You are an inspiration.
What kind of music sheets dou you use, what's your best source?
Wow!!! I wish I could do this
you go girl
Wow by day seven you where nailing it!
Edit: also what's your favorite instrument?
Hi!! Beautiful progress! This inspired me to get a harp (I also play piano and it has helped a lot too) and was wondering what music you used and where I could get it? I love so many of these tunes ❤️
I think on day 1 you played Scarborough Fair, right?
I like harp music because whenever I hear harp music, it has a soothing effect on me😊
Sounded good even 33 days in
It really started coming together on day 15
Fairy / magical world nice I like it.
I play piano and flute but I’m really curious about the harp and I’d love to try it!
Hey, can you tell me what song you are playing at 4:40 in the video? I had this album with this song on it, but I just cannot find it anymore, and song recognizer apps just don't seem to find any result :(
Sebők Orsolya was it Jock o Hazeldean? There is a list of pieces in the comments, two down from yours, I believe.
Amazing work! I too am finding that it definitely helps to have the piano foundation. Did you have an instructor or follow any curriculum? Any tips on where to find sheet music?
Surfing videos trying to convince myself to get a harp. I can also play piano so I hope I'll have great progress just like you! Your harp is the perfect size, where did you get it?
Day one? Are you sure? You're not pulling a fast one, are you? Your playing is very confident for day one.
I’m autistic, that might have helped 😆 I played through a whole beginner book on day one and practiced 5+ hours every day for the first few months. And also probably the main reason is - I play other instruments, mainly the flute. Not great at playing the piano, but I can play simple piano stuff, that helped a bit for sure.
this is so inspiring i want to learn how to play so badly but i dont even know where to start on models or anything let alone have 500 to drop on a harp 😔
Awesome video! I hope my progress will be as good as yours in that time span. Can't wait to finally hold my harp.
@@magda_plays I'm playing since almost a month now! Just wanted to keep you updated haha. I love my harp, it's a Lewis Creek Nightingale. I do struggle quite a bit though, and will take harp lessons starting in september. Do you still play? Maybe you could do another video? :)
@@SymeonPhronema Still a beginner sadly...but there's at least some progress :)
@@dreamwalker2518 That's good though that you're keeping with it! :) Are you enjoying it?
6th month was def an inuyasha song :) i used to play that song on the piano forgot the name tho
I play ukulele , clarinet , recorder ,and a little bit of guitar I want to learn the Harp
I’ve been playing violin for 8 years by now and meanwhile I’m learning to play guitar and piano but still when i was 7 i fell in love with violin and harp but in our town there’s only one harpist and she doesn’t teach because she plays in our state theatre but that can’t keep me away I’ll be 15 in January and I wish for nothing else but a harp
👍👍👍👍
this is incredible. You both look and sound gentle and beautiful when playing. Can you please tell the name of the piece you are playing at day 33?😊
I would assume the piano and degree help more than the flute. I’m a flutist and played professionally but due to lung problems I was getting nervous about gigs and whether I’d be able to breathe or not which led me doesn’t this road, but with little sight reading of base clef it has been a bit more challenging, but I’m also older than you and I think our brains slow in time. Muscle memory takes a bit longer. I am 4 months in and am not to the speed you’re at at the same time frame. I hope to get there though.
Oof. I add this to my instrumeng list i wanna learn to play. Nr one is piano. I'm already quite good at it. :3
This is fantastic! I noticed you play several different harps throughout the video - could you tell me what brands they are and where you bought them?
Katherine Hill thank you! ❤ The first one is a simple Pakistani harp from eBay. I noticed already after a few weeks that it's too small for me, so I bought a bigger one. The second one is a very cheap harp from Manfred Gosewinkel (Germany). It's 140cm high, has 31 strings, but all the way down to the low C. Very lightweight. It has a beautiful sound, but very simple "levers" bothered me and it had very light string tension. It's a lovely harp, but I needed full, professional levers, more strings and higher tension. So my last harp is Isolde Classique from Camac (38 strings) which I love with all my heart. The only down side in my opinion is her weight, which is over 15kg. But I'm still extremely happy with it :)
I want you to know that you have inspired me to buy a harp. You are amazing. May I inquire as to what type/brand/model you would recommend? Also what books or teaching items did you use? I am seriously asking.
She was already a trained musician, so switching to harp was an easier
transition.
You are so talented. I love how magical the harp sounds. Can you tell me how long you practiced for? Do you also read notes?
Thank you so much ♥️ it depends! Sometimes I didn't practice the harp at all, because I have other instruments to practice (I'm a classically trained flutist and a music teacher), sometimes I play regularly 5 hours a day. However, I tried finding the time whenever I could :) and yes, I can read the notes :)
Thanks for watching ? Thanks for uploading.
I am about to begin my harp playing journey. It was very encouraging to see your progress throughout your first year! Did you self teach yourself or did you take lessons?
I'm quite curious what route you used to take you through the learning process!
this makes me excited to learn the harp myself but first of all I need to have it one, Can you please give me an advice , Where did you buy the first one(celtic design)? ,What's website can I fine it? thank you :)))
the harp is the most underrated instrument
I agree!
Along with the hurdy gurdy! Make a duet of the two, and bam.
You are wrong. The recorder is the most underrated instrument.
