Oluv... Great video. I'm glad you showed the difference with EQ. As I have mentioned earlier, you could also try reducing 250-500Hz by 3-6db and you will see more clarity coming in.

it's great that the charge 3 has "muffled" sound. this is closer to a warm sound which I definitely prefer on headphones and speakers in general. high frequency noises often cause like real pain to my ears. hyperacusis or stuff like that dunno

BUT! What app did you use? And what levels did you have in the app exactly?

I have an upcoming series of events to run and I've been completely frustrated with the music on my Xtreme sounding muffled too. The EQ10 app has transformed the Xtreme into the most incredible device ~ thanks very much for sharing your advice! I've got the FX set on the EQ3 setting permanently (which I adjusted to my taste), its bloody amazing (and I don't work for JBL or EQ peeps ~ if you're wondering)

  • @100bsl

I got the JBL Charge 3 a couple of days back. My initial experience with it makes me feel that it is an excellent attempt by JBL to make a serious portable hifi speaker in such a small enclosure. The waterproof part is an added bonus.
I felt the forward mids were not conducive to all genres of music, especially rock music. I reduced the 230Hz and 910Hz sliders by 3db and increased the 4KHz and 14KHz sliders by 3db. This makes the sound more smooth and adds clarity in the upper registers.
The Charge 3 responds wonderfully to Equalisation. Room acoustics have no bearing on its sound signature, unlike the Xtreme which would sound boomy indoors. The bass is richer, cleaner and more natural sounding with the Charge 3 compared to the Xtreme. I think the passive radiators are better tuned in the Charge 3.

Nice video, thank you. At home, if I use an equalizer to boster a little treble (the frequencies that the human ear hears best) it lowers the volume of the sound is less strong!

Thanks for the video I used the eq that luckily came on my galaxy s8 phone. I have this and the flip 4 and now I've adjusted the charge 3 it sound very similar but with better base, it wasn't a major issue but it definitely sounds a lot better then it did. The flip 4 is also really good better highs but lacking the bass but better portability I think. I keep the Charge 3 for indoors and take the flip 4 out and about so happy with both.

Oluv I have a suggestion or maybe question: It seems that a lot your subs have a decent depth of knowledge about the technical aspects of speakers. However not everyone that visits your page has that same knowledge. Is it possible that you can make a video that explains the components of a frequency response graph? I asked because a friend of mine watched this review (at my suggestion) but they felt a bit lost with the technical terminology. Not suggesting this for every review but a separate and distinct video...maybe simply titled, Explaining the Frequency Response. Thanks for the consideration.

Nice EQ job. It's also interesting to look at what is happening in reverse. By boosting where you did, it is the equivalent of dipping everywhere else. I would have dipped in the 300 hz to 600 hz to see how that would have worked. Again, nice EQ job and nice video.

I'm not sure I get what the fuss is about. For the size and price this is an outstanding, extremely musical speaker. No reason not to expect a lot these days in such a highly competitive product space, but for my audiophile ears, I quickly get lost in the music whether classical, rock, or club. To be able to take it on my bike, golf cart, backpack, shower, with extremely long battery life and no weather worries - well it's just short of product of the year for me (I think that honor may go to the DJI Mavic Pro).
For anyone wanting to confirm the sound quality of this little puppy, I suggest stop fretting over response curves and if you can, audition it with L'Attitude by Afterlife. This track exposes most speakers weaknesses and typically boosted bass and boosted treble profiles. The C3 just makes you want to dance along.
BTW, I am not a JBL fanboy. Thanks to Clavinetjunkie's initial review I auditioned the C3 and against everything within $75 and it won hands down for value (price, sound, size). I've now bought a second for stereo/party config and have bought it for my friends and family. Not many products compel me to write a testimonial. This one did.

The concern about the treble is a real one. Nevertheless I've really enjoyed my two Charge 3s paired in stereo. I use them mainly for viewing videos, not for serious music listening, and for this they are most satisfactory. The stereo effect compensates for a lot. Like everyone else, I'll be awaiting the next model.

@clivinetjunkie at 10:34 you appear to suggest putting tweeters on the top would help because that the mids and highs become omni directional - surely the opposite is true in that higher frequencies are more directional. Please clarify.

I really appreciate the best sound quality. I find this speaker very good for its dimensions and cost. The mid range is OK for my ears. I would have hated to be muffled. But it isn't... Having huge expectations from this Charge 3 is not very realistic. The technology is not There yet. Or not for low end, low price. The short time frame, while my 2 Charge 3 speakers worked on stereo, it sounded amazingly! But now, they won't play stereo mode anymore. There is something wrong with the firmware or the app (worst app ever).

We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning czcams.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

Did you create this equalizer on your own ? And if I have a blown left Charge 3 speaker do you have a recommendation of where to get one. JBL in USA is useless. Could you please give me a option for the blown speaker. Thank you so much. Respectfully Dave.
