Honestly, surveys are a waste of time. Majority of surveys are just survey mazes where as soon as you finish the first they throw another at you, and then another, and then another until you get frustrated and give up.

You never get the gems because they keep putting you through more surveys that you need to go through to get them, its just a scam to get your information. Don't bother with them.
The survey site listed by hirez isn't like that at all, but it is still painfully boring and more importantly you may not qualify for the survey based on your race and age. If you are a college aged white male you won't be pulling many of the high reward surveys.
only do peanut labs, they're the only ones that work. choose the 56+ gems surveys only. watch out for trick questions. each survey takes 8-15 minutes typically.
Theres a reddit post that has something for that, let me look for it. I think the target audience is a 24 year old white male that makes >$50k or something along the lines of that, I think the reddit post was deleted or something because I can't find it anymore.

One thing they could change to make it easier on people is to simply move from "get 3 First Wins of the Day" to "get 3 wins"
That way people atleast have the possibility to stick to the gamemode(s) they are comfortable with, while still promoting playing the game itself to get gems.

That would suffer from some of the problems Duke mentioned in the video.
This would force people to play outside of the modes they normally play in order to get gems
And next to that there will be the group of people who will just throw the game to be able to F6 at 10 in order to get their gems the fastest (instead of just enjoying the game)
only issue is that these gem events also serve to up the population is less popular modes like assault or something, to get people out of arena and conquest. whenever I do these I personally just do joust/clash/conquest with friends, joust is fast and not too hard to win, same with clash (being with friends helps a ton in both, along with picking strong team comps) and then we move on to conquest which we would be playing anyways
Sven Schipper your idea defeats the purpose of these game events. the game is encouraging you to play the other game modes and there's nothing wrong about that.
I swear the amount of F7 warriors triples at least during these events.

I'm pretty sure if you make minimum wage or are looking for a way to get money, buying gems to dress up your smite dolls are the least of your concerns

If you depend on that minimum wage for financial stability, you probably shouldn't be spending multiple hours to grind virtual currency either, so that's irrelevant. This example was for those who work next to school etc.
But let's be honest here. You're from germany so am I. And everbody else in central europe could buy 8k gems a month without a problem. That is if you're willing to spend that much for a video game.
And for those in school I can recommend the following (works better on small villages though):
- Offer your service with an ad on the local supermarket (for example going out with the dogs. Go shopping groceries for an older women or so. Be creative)
When I was young we went from door to door and just asked people if we could help with something to earn some money. (cutting the gras in the garden or whatever)

U are really stupid u know that,for a lot of people that are at minimum wage smite is entertainment and way to relax.So yea there is there is cases where u are at minimum wage unable to afford buying gems but u still play a lot of smite.
+nurudin nuhefendic Insult me one more time and get banned. If you struggle to financial sustain yourself with minimum wage and you "play a lot of smite", you have shit priorities. If you're really bordering poverty (which is when you couldn't afford gems), then you should spend the majority of your time either working a second job (for example doing that beermoney stuff linked in the description), trying to find a better paid job or educating/training yourself in order to get a better job. That's not to say you can't play Smite for relaxation, but you most certainly shouldn't spend multiple hours a day trying to grind wins for an insignificant amount of virtual currency in that scenario. In addition, Gem event grinds are hardly relaxation and entertainment.

It's way more fun to play when you get things for it, like gems, but I doubt you like those people who die once 1v5 and then flame/blame everyone in their team about it and eventually possibly stop playing, sit in base, or start trolling and make everyone's game miserable. If you have full premade, then it's way more fun since you know you wont have those people. But if even one person is a random, then well.. You better wish he's not one of those people or the game is ruined.

Honestly it should be the same system like the season tickets. To earn the free gems you need 5 Pts. A win = 3pts and a loss = 1pt. Therefore playing in general will give you some sort of progression.
From now on all my pay checks will go to gems in smite.

If you spend multiple hours trying to grind out gems to the extent that it becomes work, you're pretty much doing the same thing, you just don't notice.
Arena-Assault-Clash are the easiest for these kinds of things. Assault is the hardest, cause of all the randomness.
StarTsurugi would say assault got the biggest chance of a win during these events due to the randomness and build restrictions as well =P

My Gem Event Idea: Don't make it 3 first wins of the day but make it 3 wins total. So 3 conquest wins would work. Also, these events are usually Friday, Saturday and Sunday so you can do the event once per day. A way to get around this issue is make it like quests that you have the whole weekend to complete. A quest to get 3 wins in any game mode and you can repeat this quest 3 times. This will allow people to play the game modes they want while still getting the same amount of total games played to boost activity for HiRez.
This is such a first-world problem.

There are those of us that don't have money to spend on all those cool skins and whatnot, so we appreciate these kind of events.

I solo que and I have gotten my 3 wins of the day every day since the event started. and I work a 12 hour job. There's no excuse.

You miss a few things though. Its not some, its a lot of countries who dont have average of 5 dollars per hour. Also a job is a responsibility while these free gems are possibility. Nobody obliges you to do it.
They also can take an example of Dota 2 and it's recent Dark Moon event. Basically, they can bring back Xing's Mountain for limited time and make daily quest for surviving like 5 or 10 waves of it with gems reward. This way they still can make people back in the game and do not ruin expiriens in normal queues.
I think it's just a flaw with the quests themselves. They _have_ other quests they just refuse to use them. Do something like "Play 3 games" or "get 100 assists" or even "kill 75 minions."
I'm not against the gem storm events, I have friends who can't buy gems and thus rely on them (surveys are wonky, I've gotten one or two to work but ones I've tried since generally don't) - HiRez just needs to change how the event is executed.

Hey Dukesloth, Love the vids. I've recently been watching your season 4 best item guides to prepare for its arrival on xbox. I have been watching and enjoying your videos for a lot longer however. I currently study at university and do not have a job. I would agree that the surveys are the best way to get gems. However, it states that it is for PC or mac users only. I don't feel comfortable with the other methods and your video on Faceit was pretty compelling not to waste my time on that either. In this scenario, these gem events are good for me although I am a regular player of smite, both solo and with a small group of friends. The thing I would like to ask you if it isn't too much trouble, is to briefly mention about xbox and ps4 since the player base may not be as big as on pc or mac but is definitely interested in hearing what you have to say. Thanks
it's all fun, until you are over halfway in a survey then all of a sudden the survey tells me I am unable to complete the survey because it 'wont match my profile'
The playing vs buying gems thing... I still enjoyed playing Smite even during the gem event. A few tryhards, but not really noticeably more than normal. The gems were just a fun bonus.
A solution to this problem is to make the gem event quests to be somthing like get 50 kills and/or assist or do 30k player damage like the Odyssey quests.
Free gems? Add a quest line that updates every month or so.. "Get 5 wins in any mode" "Get 10 kills" "Get 20 assists" "Get [insert role specific quest here] (For example, 5 kills as hunter, 5 CC as guardian ect.). It will help people get better at the game too. If people are rewarded well for playing well, people will learn how to play and actually be rewarded and have fun with it too. The whole "Win 3 games" is kind of messed up from the get go because of reasons you said, without a team in these events it's so difficult because you either face teams or have people who want to be carried for easy gems. Make it so individuals have to actually do something to get the reward. I'm not a good player, I know I'm not but I don't have any incentive to play well. I know I'm shit but I still have fun with it, maybe if there was some sort of reward or reason to play well, I'd actually play for more than an hour or 2 a session and I know many people feel like I do. Some of us just jump on for an hour or so, see the toxicity, it's not fun anymore so we lose any incentive to play then. At least with a decent quest system or unlockables, a lot of players will actually play and learn to play better because they know they are getting something out of playing well. I don't care if I win or lose, everything that you unlock you need to purchase, you get nothing for working hard at the game so what's the point in trying so hard if I'm having more fun running around doing my own thing and trying out what I feel like? Ohh wait, spam a god to rank 10 and get diamond.. That's they only thing you can unlock completely for free but that's not enough, that leads to people just maining a god, getting that god diamond then either quitting the game or just spamming that God in EVERY single game, regardless of team comp or game mode. I paid for the God Pack and honestly, wish I didn't. I don't play most of the Gods because I have absolutely no reason to..
The faceit thingy for gems is rather nice if you're an arena player. and they got some tournaments of joust and conqest too, it's not perfect but not that bad either :D
I'm not sure whether or not you mentioned this in the video but do you have a better way to get people to play the other gamemodes than free money for wins?
HiRez has already stumbled upon the solution, but removed it. At the start of Season 3, we got the quests. It used to be that the "complete 2" quest gave gems instead of favor. The problem was that the game was bugged and gave you an infinite amount of quests to do, allowing to give a player an infinite amount of gems. Instead of leaving the gems in and fixing the bug, HiRez removed the gems AND fixed it to where you could only get 2(?) per week. Shortly after that, they brought back the daily log-in bonus, which was removed at the start of Season 3. If HiRez left the gems in, there would be no need for any gemstorms in the future because there would be a way to get free gems consistently.
Whenever these events start (I don't play with other people since no one I know plays it plus console) either my team all of randoms get put against a full clan team and obviously we get wiped, and then atleast 1 person will snap and become super them, so yeah I don't like these gem events, I'd rarther just buy a pack once a month if I really want some gems

Just make the Gem Storm event require gaining 40k gold total from any non MOTD modes. Rewards you for playing almost all game modes, all classes, nearly all gods, and rewards you for staying in a game. Also, considering people average less than 20k gold per game, still basically forces them to play 3 games.
I don't know if this would work. During my time playing Resident Evil 6, there was an option where you selected what were up to, examples: playing for fun, complete the story mode or getting medals. Maybe this would be good to aks what are up to when you log in, is it for fun or gems and pairing you with the ones who selected the same option as you...

hjuliochaparro chapapapa It's incredible how different the world is. When I heard $5/hr I was shocked because that's much lower than the $7.50/hr minimum wage where I live.
Have it like that one event that was glitched, have it where you can earn your gems in medium premade games that way no one cares.. Or have it where you have to play a certain amount of hours in the weekend and you earn the gems.
I just played a Joust game to try and get my last first win... we were in the lead and we took the other team's phoenix. The other team took the bull demon and I told my teammate to try and contest but they didn't even TRY to contest. After that, the other team took out our tower and my teammates just decided to surrender as they were PARTIED together. Seriously, I was carrying my team and they had the audacity to outright surrender as we had pushed the other team up to their TITAN. Solo queuing sucks, but I need to do it since I have no one to play with... :\ But, I eventually won the Joust match I joined after.
I understand and agree with your point that you do get either people who haven't touched smite in a year, or a large group, but, the same goes for the other team. Personally I feel it evens out in the end, but I usually solo queue in several different game modes that aren't conquest.
I felt the frustration, too. I usually play different game modes like arena, clash or assault. But seriosly the Last days soloqueing weren't fun even without the regular server crashes. But as Dukesloth mentioned, where isn't any alternative. Hi Rez could switch the concept from getting 3 fwotd to 60 in game minutes, but every game mode except Arena kann be stalled nearly infintely. If you try things like kill a certain amount of minions or get XX Kills or Assists this might work better, even supports would hate the first one.

Winning Arena isnt that hard. Just pick tryhard gods some people have 80% arena-winrate with (Xba, Rama, Thana, Ah Puch, Ao, Freya, Scylla, Zeus)

SoundSpark it's mainly where im trying to have fun with gods i dont get to play alot like loki or any god that is not great for team fights more of a lone wolf god the team always lets me down i play solo queue, matchmaking hates me
I feel you man, I'm solo queue player most of the time. Actually got only 2 prices during 4 or 5 days and don't even bother anymore. Giveaways is trash, I never won anything.
I play on console and honestly didnt find much of a difference in terms of matchups. The thing is though if you arent bothered by gems you just want a decent game you can always play ranked? But I can see how this can have a negative impact maybe 5 first wins over 5 days would be better. That way you can choose to play your game mode every day or play all of them, whatever you prefer.

The problem is, not everyone has access to credit cards because most of the time their parents didn't allow them. As of now, i only have debit card, which can't be used for international transaction.
But yeah, gem event sucks in some server because the only option is Arena, Joust, and Conquest
people are saying the surveys don't work, maybe for some they do, but I happen to be a console peasant so these gem events are like gods gift to me because the free gems are for pc/Mac users only.
I simply didn't do it this time because it was only 30 instead of 40/50. I know it's still "free gems", but it isn't enough for the time and stress it puts you through. Meanwhile, the max bonus for logging in is almost the same as two days of that torture...
Yeah, I don't do surveys. They are a waste of time and usually end up being scams. If anything free gem events are one of HiRez most decent ideas. Also the most it takes to complete the event is a couple hours and that's assuming you get people leaving or feeders or trolls. I can usually get all 3 wins down in about an hour.
Yeah I agree with this. The first 3 wins of the day thing is dumb even though I like multiple game modes. It just feels like work when you're trying to get gems. I was doing this to save up gems for the morrigan. I was so glad I bought the God pack instead. You don't even get refunded for gems for getting God pack for the gods you paid for.
ok this is interesting but another perspective is that for an Australian player on ps4 without these events I wouldn't ever be able to find a game of conquest. last Sunday starting 9pm on Australian servers I looked for 170 minutes before giving up without finding a game.
I did like 6 surveys and only 1 or 2 actually gave me gems. Most of them tell me I'm not who they want results from or whatever. Take like 6 surveys in 2 hours and get 45 gems because half of em don't apply to you

I can't really say i agree with you on this one. The current gem event isn't an alternative way to get gems, it's an extra way.
Though it's true that you get players unfamiliar with other modes in your games, it does not have to be the end of the world. Match-making would be the bigger issue here.
When I play the other modes, I can get some salty players as well, but I just mute them when they get out of hand.
If you want to play that seriously, there is ranked. There is no sense in going ballistic in a casual game mode, even if your team-mate sucks. Try helping them, instead of raging them into a dc.
Also, not every gamemode is doomed if a group of solo players go against a 5-man premade from the same clan. Just the other day, in an arena match I met one of these, and my team was like "gg, we are dead". But when we took teamfigth after teamfight, we actually got so pumped from winning against a premade, that the hype of it won us the game. Unless they are very well coordinated, they aren't any more of a threat that normal players.
With that, I'm not going to neither like, nor dislike this video. I get what you are saying, but I don't share your view of every aspect on the subject. You are still a great content creator for the smite community, so keep on doing your thing, and you won't go wrong. Peace out.
During their lest Gem Event, I was playing a Match of Arena on Xbox and this Zeus had the most atrocious build I had seen for a mage. Keep in mind console doesn't get season 4 till next Monday, for first item he built Etheral Staff, Demonic Grip, Thoth, Telekhines, Tahuti and looked to be going to round it off with a Obsidian Shard. I don't know if he was just trying to troll or actually didn't know what he was doing, but man I was getting annoyed. I had played too many matches of Arena at that point and was getting a little frustrated with him.
I think this kind of events are made mainly to test the servers in stress situations.
They could give loyal players gems like, if you play for x hours a week(it has to be in lobby) then you can get some gems
what about a win week guage. basically over a week x amount of wins will correlate to a goal of say 20 wins gets 100 gems and basically the number of wins places you in a corresponding bracket. that way even if you don't hit 20 wins you still are in the lowest bracket of say 20 for 1-5 wins over the week
I've never had a rough time on a gem storm day... just play arena as a support main, chances are the other team won't bring one...

Exactly how I felt this weekend. I go to College + work and play smite at night. I knew I would have to solo queue too. It felt like a chore so I just went to sleep.
why not have it to where you can either get 1 win in that game mode for the gems, or 2 loses in that game mode for the gems. in that case you wouldn't have to spend too much time in 1 game mode, but still have the chance to just have to play it once if you win.

Alec Stewart the 3 starter is a niche meta. u start with the 2 and the 3rd starter is rangdars mask which u buy if ur team is getting a lot of kills and u are geting assists and kills as well usually arround 8 to 10 mins cos it gives stacks for assists and kills
The biggest problem this events have is the fact that they force you to win.I'll gladly play 3 or even more (like 5 or 6) games/different modes, but winning in this SMITE is as random as it gets (you know, because the matchmaking is s**t)
personally they should change the event from 3 first wins of the day to just play x amount of matches or get x amount of kills and assists.

1, I disagree, it is free gems and not that hard to gain. I just spent 2 of the days playing with a friend and we got it fairly quickly. The other day i played games including a game of CQ and i got it without a hassle.
2, 5 dollars an hour is way too low in any first world country. It is closer to 10 probably. Work is also a wierd comparisson as that is something you do anyways.
3, I am very dissapointed that you used dollars as a EU youtuber, why not use Euro as that is also a widely used currency, and it is from where you live. I don't like all the catering to the US just because some are too stupid to know the EU even exists. I dislike the assumption that everyone you meet online is from the US.
If a EU person asks if you want to play on reddit for example they automatically assume you play on NA, while most EU persons ask which server they play on first. Same with gem pricing math for the odyssey when poeple asked how much money they need for the T5, always dollars without asking where the OP that asks for the math is from. This goes beyond Smite ofc but just an example.
So many premades and tryhards last weekend. I lost like, 15/20 matches from Friday to Monday.
I think they should make quests that would last the whole weekend like play 3 guardians and win 3 games not fwotd but you would have whole weekend to complete it
I see your point, and I definitely understand the trolls and tryhards all weekend because of the event but the Gems are FREE if anything you should have to work for them and work hard for them look at what you have to do in other FtP games that have a payable currency. In Warframe I have to Grind for Hours at a time to even get a chance to maybe trade for the gem equivalent in that game. Hi-res is being very nice that I only have to win 3 games to get some gems

Got my 1st win of the day in multiple modes quite quickly (Except I used Assault which is awful... So unbalanced it's unreal... Also, I swear my opponents get to choose their gods)
Essentially, outside of the BS that is Assault, I quite enjoyed working on the Gem Storm event. It never became "Work".
How about a trial of champions sorta thing? Where once a month or bi monthly the there will be a week where if you win or do various things such as play three arena games or something over the course of the week you could get a free 50- to 100 gems over the whole week. so it takes one week, happenes frequently but not too much. and everybody can have fun because it might not take a lot of skill and could be well advertised.
tbh i like the gem storm event because i live in the middle of nowhere and i cant do any surveys or watch videos because there are never any available in my region, but i can definitely see your point. i cant be making that hot online $$$ that easily
The surveys are there for me, but they dont even give me gems. Gem storm is better for me...

well I bought around $1000 gems during Christmas when they have discount gem sale for 33% off, and now I am sitting at this huge gem bank that can last me for years of smite playing :)
Just make the task: get "insertanumber" of assists or kills. This way no trolls would affect you just your own playstyle.
why don't they just go for quest similar to season ticket quests? e.g Deal X amount of damage to enemy gods, i find those best fitting because everyone will play their best to complete the quest as fast as possible and you would still make progress even through a loss.
It seems that more and more you have to separate good players from bad or new players.
I think this type of event promotes exactly that, make the players leave their place of comfort, that is, their preferred mode. Making players leave their preferred game mode and try other modes, even if they run very badly.
Sincerely, the video conveys much more your frustration with the event than promoting the idea that the theme of the video indicates.

I'd be surprised if any diamond ranked conquest player has trouble solo Qing or playing other modes than conquest.
There aren't really any surveys anymore. I've had two for over a week, neither I trust.
I went on a 12 losing streak in arena, I was pissed and the second I got into joust and clash I did amazing, sigh. And for the twitch gems, do you need to be active in chat to be counted? if not then sweet I can just go to bed and leave twitch on in my tablet XD
To be fair if a tryhard full premade gets to play against solo queue randoms, thats the problem of the matchmaking, not the gem event. Premades should be fighting roughly the same amount of premades. When a premade vs randoms match happens, matchmaking failed.
sir i agree and believe in what you are saying here. The events make me avoid the game, not play it. Lost 6 games in a row, including ASSAULT because of tryhards, with a group of 4... and one player was not the issue, it was people doing all in their power to win, reguardless of gameplay...
Just so everyone knows you don't have to do the gem event just because you have the option to you can just buy gems if you really want them. Also personally I've had to play 3 to 4 games for each reward so far while solo or duo queueing at most and have had no problem with teammates I feel like everyone having problems is just in elo hell or my elo is just trash and I play way above it
you messed the solo queue team you get stuck with where everyone picks an assassin...
As someone who solo queued the gem event the only mode that i struggled with was assult
Damn for me Assault is the easiest for solo queue
I actually play all the modes for the first win of the day so this doesn't seem weird to me lol
even though I think it's fine as it is personally, they can just make it win 3 games. if people dont have the time just play arena. Arena is made to be a short game mode. if someone doesn't have and dislikes arena, well in my perspective it's impossible to please everyone. I don't think playing arena for a couple days isn't going to ruin your life.

Storm gems' event's week-end are so boring because of the people who tryhard there life just for get 30 poor gem and that make fucking crazy
today i got one guy saying that doesnt play for 2years and started to play today again, is it coincidence, 6 days of gems storm and they all remember "SMITE exist" xp
free gems are free gems if you have a problem with the games you are getting make friends in the game and make a premade its not that hard, team comp is usually the most important aspect of a match other than skill level. for me the gem events make people play harder than normal and i find myself getting more challenging games and better teams, which makes for a fun experience all around. i solo que most of the time and i have 0 problem with any of the matches i get. a bad match is a bad match no 30 gems is going to make that much of a difference when it comes to losing.
