    The main reason this guy prefers the 6k over the 4k is because of the native ef mount nothing more, all the features/pros/cons/color science are pretty much the same(95%identical), bashing the 4k in his previous video and it's all rainbows and sunshine with the 6k? People please note that with the 4k mft mount you can pretty much adapt any lens into the system, especially some of the newer cine models form Meike, SLR magic has proven to be great bang of the buck cine lenses for mft users. 6k ef mount would limit your options when it come to lenses and really slow you down with the huge data handling. Remember folks you're shooting in 12-bit raw with the 4k, the resolution debate is like arguing that iphone produces better videos with a proper video camera. THE COLOR SCIENCE AND 12-BIT RAW is more future proof over whatever you think 6k is going to give you. Buy this camera IF AND ONLY IF you already own a shit tons of canon ef lenses. If you really care about "future proof" at all, consider this: You DATE your cameras and you MARRY your lenses. Btw I don't intend to come off as a hater, just seem very biased

      I had the 4K and now have the 6K and I completely agree with everything he said in this video
      at least a full stop more DR than 4K, at the very least and it's all in the highlights, even when shooting at iso400. with the 4K i had to be at iso800 for respectable performance on DR and that produced noisy footage.
      visibly sharper than the 4K providing you're shooting on the same glass
      much better colour science. this is a big one. no more yellow stain on my screen. if anything, it's still a bit warm but the blues come through cool and make the image look amazing.
      no more fn SB. i used the best money could buy from metabones and all my favourite wide lenses would fringe even when underexposed. that was very annoying using speedboosters.

  • @EugeniaLoli
    @EugeniaLoli Před 4 lety +11

    The crop factor between the two cameras is not huge (1.6 vs 1.9). The only big real difference is the 6k vs 4k. Everything else is the same. Between the huge price difference (double the price for the 6k), AND the fact that you're literally stuck with EF lenses only on the 6k (MFT can mount almost anything in existence), the 4k is a much, much better deal. I would never advise people to get the 6k over the 4k for these reasons. And if you're doing narrative filmmaking, you need to be softening your footage anyway in post to resemble film, so that dulls the need for 6k anyway. Nobody really asked for a bmpcc6k, despite BMD's claims. People were asking for ibis, autofocus, tiltable screen, and better battery life. Watch every single review of the bmpcc4k and that's the only thing they were asking for. Not a 6k camera. BMD released this as an answer to the new ZCam S35 and to the industry moving towards larger sensors in general. But overall, price-wise and lens-wise, the 4k makes much more sense.

    The lack of 4K raw isn't because BlackMagic "wants" users to shoot 6K. It is because raw necessarily represents the actual sensor readout resolution. And the actual sensor readout for this camera is 6K, not 4K. This cannot be fixed in firmware, so represents a major downside of any camera with a native 6K resolution.
    More resolution isn't always a good thing.
    And for many, the dedicated EF mount is also a large detriment, as it prevents the use of most vintage lenses, the EF flange distance being too large.
    Battery life is even worse on the 6K than the 4K. A separate power solution is even more necessary. So the costs for the 6K will for most, be substantially larger than those of the 4K.
    IMHO, most who don't need 6K resolution are better off with the BMPCC 4K.

    For me, I'm still super happy with my 4k (especially after the new firmware update). I don't have any issue adapting lenses or notice any real world image degradation. I want to shoot 4k in RAW (I still deliver most of my work in HD, with the occasional 4k project). I feel like the "future proof it" argument is a little silly with anything other than possibly stock footage if you're shooting really exotic locations and spending a lot of time and money to do it (although at that point you've probably got a RED or ARRI). You figure it'll be 4 to 6 years before 6 or 8k becomes close to standardized (HD is still the overwhelming standard viewing experience for most people). By that time...will your content be relevant? I know I rarely look back at...much less use projects over 4 years old. I may eat my words in a few years, but I think I'll be a lot happier buying 2 additional 4k bodies instead of a 6k body. . There really aren't any features I feel I'm lacking with the 4K that the 6K offers. That's just me though. I totally respect other filmmakers who feel differently.

      @@BrianMakesFilms I believe the future proof argument is valid, but not vital. Sure, more people might have 6k and 8k displays in the future, but at the same time more people are consuming media using mobile devices. I feel like 4k is an excellent sweet spot between footage that looks very crisp when downsized to 1080p and footage that won't completely break apart if one of the few people with 5k-8k displays happens to watch it in that resolution. Also, I vaguely recall hearing (from Potato Jet?) that not all feature length films are even filmed in 4k; apparently some are filmed on as low as 2.7k (or something like that). So 4k might be more than enough if you want your project to look okay when projected onto a large screen. Overall, the more resolution you have access to and the hardware to handle, the better, but over a certain point it's probably not necessary. The story is still the most important component to filmmaking.

    Great video Max though, I respectfully disagree. I had the option between getting the 6K or the 4K and I went with the 4K. First, the 4K is around 1,000 dollars less than the 6K, meaning I can spend more money on nicer glass, which brings me to my second point, purchasing a speed booster. With the Metabones .64x Ultra, you get a 1.28x crop factor, which is less than the 6K plus, the speed of any attached lens is increased by 1.3 stops. I purchased a Sigma 18-35 with the Speed Booster Mentioned above and that those two pieces of glass plus the Pocket 4K Is around the price of the 6K body only. My third and final point for purchasing the 4K is file size. Recording 6K BRAW is eats up 500mb every two seconds. Huge file sizes mean spending more money in the long term and that is something I am trying to avoid. With the 4K, recording BRAW is less than half the size at around 200mb every two seconds. Another thing that is really important is the new version 6.6 update which gives added functionality and features

How can the 6K be that much better and cheaper if it still needs all of the rigging of the 4K and additional drive space beyond that? Most reviews assume you will happily put an expensive adapter and the resulting extra glass on the 4k without a second thought. It is a bit like saying two cars are equivalent if you put a bigger motor in the cheap one. The 6k has a lot of advantages for the type of educational videos I do with no extras other than my existing stack of Canon lenses and batteries. There's so many things going on and requiring attention and always breaking with 1000's of items on the todo list, just put a Sigma 18-35 on this camera and you're done with this one small problem.
    That's why the mount is good.

  • @AlexNejera
    @AlexNejera Před 4 lety

    As a 6k owner, the autofocus is not a big deal. there's a button that allows you to set your focus before you shoot. it takes 1 maybe 2 seconds. if that's too long for you, maybe you're better off with a canon eos R. otherwise, you can use manual focus with the focus assist option to help you nail it. there's no excuse to not nail focus on this tiny beast.

    Completely depends on your needs. I would like the 6k because the color science as well as the dynamic range. The sensor is just better. Otherwise the EF mount sucks for most people. If it was an M43 mount we could adapt a speedbooster and get a full frame 6k camera. I also which you could do 4k RAW without cropping as well as 1080p. That makes the Pocket 4k more desirable as 4K raw is more manageable. That said the P4K image just isn't there. If you only shoot RAW you can get around the crappy color and clipping issues but its nice to be able to just shoot prores sometimes. I might end up getting the Sigma FP. Looks like it can do 4k 12 bit RAW directly to an SSD (NO external recorder needed)

    The 6K recovers under/overexposure WAY better than the 4K, while maintening color accuracy. Watching comparison with Arri Alexa and many RED cameras, this is crazy impressive (better, actually... maybe because of the dual iso). That’s the deciding argument for me (with the bigger sensor, resolutions and lens mount). The 0,3 stop of extra DR in the highlights is also noticeable in some scenarios.

    my thoughts exactly.
    at least a full stop more DR than 4K
    visibly sharper than the 4K and the scarlet w 5K providing you're shooting on the same glass
    much better colour science - not yellow piss any longer - and very close to RED if you change the hue slightly, pushing yellows more towards green and lowering sat on reds, although as it is it can look better than RED in most situations, esp skintones

    ahh, the infamous "B-Roll" again. Very popular term that no ones knows what to think about it. :)
    Clarification: "B-Roll" footage is footage that you "can" but don't need to cut in. Its just some ... beauty-make-up for your video.
    Footage that is necsassary to basically portrait what you want to say with your video, no matter if someone is talking in it or not is not B-Roll.

I did a short movie with this camera and in post-production, I didn't hear the sound of fan, because other sounds in the room. In extreme case, you can reduce the gain of your mic and/or reduce the buzz sound with a "Pass filter" in post-production.

      @@guillaumeceratimagicien thanks a lot for sharing your experience, really helps a lot. I've been going through some comment sections of reviews on youtube and posts in facebook groups about this issue. It seems that experiences are quite divergent on this. For instance someone mentioned this in a facebook comment:
      "No issues with mine, and I would definitely noticed, being i shoot a good bit with a shoulder rig setup, that places the cam directly on my shoulder and basically against my ear."
      If I place the camera directly against my ear I can definitely hear the high buzzing sound...
      The customer service at BM said: "The noise you are hearing sounds like the unit is performing within expected tolerances and there does not appear to be anything wrong with your camera."
      Don't really know what to think of this.
