What I want to know is why they stopped using Lumine as traveller. It was deliberate, they CHOSE Aether to depict traveller, if it was for consistency, wouldnât it make more sense to just keep using Lumine?
The main flaw with your reasoning is that even if you choose Lumine, you will get Aether arts in the limited time events. Like in the Shadow of Snowstorms event, it shows Aether Paimon and albedo, when canonically it should depict Lumine Paimon and Albedo. If Aether isn't the canon traveller, then why even in game with Lumine as traveller, does Aether show?
You could argue it's for consistency, but it's not, because it's within the game. It isn't like CZcams clips or anything, it should in theory show Lumine, but it doesn't.

Yeah, I feel the traveller is just Piemon's pawn, there's been cutscenes where we literraly ask her what to do and she has a little crown I bet the siblings have pawn gnoses and Piemon has a king gnosis.
But I really like the fact that communito made an ideal 50/50 choice of the twins even after a year of the game launch!

Gotta appreciate the details Mihoyo put into making the twins different. In cutscenes, you can notice Lumine is more on the offensive sides and Aether on the defensive. (Check the Shenhe archon scene). Along with this, their attack animations are different. Lumine looks more graceful and Aether more reckless. Lumine relies on her lower half and Aether on his upper. If I had to say, Lumine is more of the cold, skeptical twin while Aether more of the open, protective twin. (Which lowkey makes me regret choosing Lumine cause I would legit get on my knees for her cause oh my god sheâs so badass when sheâs evil)
In the character dialogue lumine prefers cyro slimes while aether prefers pyro so yeah.
Right the only reason I regret picking Lumine is because I'll never see her being badass and evil it suits her so much

I chose Lumine as my traveller simply because I liked her design more, but that being said the one thing I don't think I could ever give up now is her facial expressions in cutscenes.

For me, my head-canon is this:
There are alternate universes equal to the total number of players of the game.
Whoever you chose to play as in your world is *your* canon protagonist. It is your world, your story. You decide how your experience in Tevyat plays out.
If a friend of yours chose Aether for example, his or her canon protagonist is that character for their world.
That's why in "co-op" mode, the Devs call it *joining another world* . You are adventuring in their storybook and you will be apart of their grand tale of Genshin Impact.

@Cento MC let me rephrase that. Lumine and Aether are both travelers. You can choose which twin to play. Though Aether is shown in fanarts, Lumine is playable as well, which means both paths has be chosen, hence both are canon.
@Cento MC i don't know what you are arguing, but the end deal is that both Lumine and Aether are cannon. Obviously they shouldn't have to make a identical manga with Lumine replacing Aether in it, that's redundant and too much useless work. We know that the role of TRAVELLER is the one depicted in the manga. And for that instance, the devs decided to place that Traveller slot with Aether in it. But we fully understand that it can also be Lumine.

No matter what Mihoyo said to please their fan base, Aether is the Canon twin. The storyline is based on the Greek Primordial God, Aether, and the Luminiferous Aether Experiments (Lumine and Aetherâs namesake).

Many people, unfortunately, are trying to pass off as the truth that twins are shown in the battle pass trailer, because Venti in his phrase says "the prince will save the princess", then "the princess will save the prince", depending on whether the player chooses a boy or a girl. In addition, many people insist that Dainsleif is in love with Princess of Abyss Lumine, because in the trailer of the game he said about the flowers similar to those on Lumine's head. I completely agree with you, Dain could mean someone else or could mean that Aether, like Lumine, also loved these flowers, without romantic overtones. And official art is generally a painful topic for players, but many people forget that Lumine also appears on many of them. For example, at a web event that started today. By the way, I also picked Lumine as my protagonist, she is so cute! I really love Aether too, but I like how serious he is as the Abyss Prince. In general, they are both wonderful and deserve more than the eternal conflicts of the players.

Yes, I also think that the battle pass is about someone else, and this story definitely does not apply to Venty's phrases about the prince and princess. But who the battle pass is about - we won't know for a long time

I pick aether because I'm a boy. I'm pretty confused why some people are insisting aether/lumine is canon while in the story you play as who you pick. I think those people are just supremacists and think their aether/lumine is superior to other lumine/aether while both are canon.

I can't believe this is STILL up for discussion, like, obviously both are canon and mihoyo sticks to using aether as mc/lumine as abyss princess in trailers etc for consistency and so we immediately know that when we see lumine for example that it has to do with the abyss. Sure you might say "no! people wont get confused if they switch it up!" but really, i've seen people get confused over the most blatant in-your-face stuff so... The one you said about the Battle Pass cutscene hit me different. When I first played GI on my first account I chose Aether, and when I stumbled upon that scene, I thought the siblings shown in it were the traveling twins. But when I picked Lumine on my current account and saw the cutscene again, it was the exact same thing. I was so confused! đ

As a lumine player, I was already aware of the "consistency" mhy was going for, but after the event art with aether and albedo in-game, it became the last straw for me. Like c'mon. I barely see any official content for lumine and I still don't get to see her in my own game? It's honestly really frustrating because people insist that one is canon than the other when mhy themselves said that neither or both are canon.

Same , when I saw the latest event with aether on it , I thought that we might see our Abyss twin again and realised that Mihoyo did it AGAIN. Idc about off.arts , there are many artists who make lumine version , but cmon seeing different character in game is confusing and frustrating

Neither/both are canon, for the reasons stated in the video, but I do think itâs important when talking about how Aether is the twin used in promotional content to know that Aether is the first and currently only male main character of any standalone miHoYo game. FlyMe2theMoon, Houkai Gakuen, Houkai Gakuen 2nd(Gun GirlZ/GGZ), and Honkai Impact 3rd all have variations of Kiana Kaslana(the very first character miHoYo ever created/designed) as the main character. GGZ also had another female main character in a later storyline, Houraiji Kyuushou. Tears of Themis has a self-insert female main character the player gets to name.
The only other male main characters of any miHoYo project currently are Captain, the self-insert fictional Captain of the Hyperion who is not canon to the main story of Honkai but does have a presence in the in-game events, which are also not canon to the main story, The Protagonist/Adam (named by the player) from A Post-Honkai Odyssey, which is a game mode within Honkai Impact 3rd and not a standalone game, and the main character of Honkai: Star Rail (also named by the player), which isnât out yet. Aether, who was revealed to the public and first beta tested in 2019, predates the others, at least in the eyes of the public.
Other than for consistencyâs sake, I think they also just wanted to feature Aether more than Lumine because heâs the first male MC they created to get his own game.
funny tho, most people say that they regret their decision of chosing lumine because she gives more villain vibes and aether soft boy vibes or smth, but i disagree with that, aether feels like a regretful person, that has no option other than do what he needs to do while lumine feels like a skeptical person, that doesnt understand this world so much and searchs for her brother to leave this dangerous world

Compared to how they make their other games you can tell that if they have a canon Mc the players will play as said character like "Rosa/Mc" in ToT and Kiana on Honkai so it makes sense that Lumine/Aether is a canon Mc that can be changed depending on the players choice in the start menu it also happens in other games like Persona,Danganronpa etc, they have a set canon mc that players play as from the start.

I never really understand why some pp feel the need to make a fuss about who the MC is. The game is about travelling and looking for clues to find your twin. If they want a MC so bad, why don't just think of it as 2 mirrored world instead of trying to make up facts to support the "canon" character?
Lets say that it runs on Multiverse theory and theres one universe where Lumine is the main traveler and other where Aether is
Aether is probably the extrovert sibling while Lumine is the introvert one.
It seems like the opposite for me, aether seems like the calm ambivert one while lumine looks like the sassy extrovert one.

Iâve come to learn talking to people about this subject is a brick wall. You have the normal people who donât care, preference is preference and honestly it doesnât matter but if you run into people who are set in Aether being canon there is no reason to even bother talking to them on the matter. At the end of the day out of all the lore itâs probably the least significant given that the scenes donât change depending on who you picked.
I personally just think my personality aligns more with Lumine and can relate to the idea of a younger sibling left to fend for themself, plus I like her design more. I also really like the sad nature aether brings to the antagonistic role, not one who is justified in their actions but the self awareness to what they are doing isnât necessarily good. Itâs not everyoneâs favorite things and thatâs fine Iâm glad when others have their own preference/reasonings, because as I said, itâs literally one of the least important factors in the game.
Honestly, I think arguing with those people (the ones insisting Aether is âtheâ canon twin) is like arguing with a person who thinks the world is flat. No matter how much VIABLE evidence is brought forth to suggest otherwise to what they believe in, itâs to no avail. Itâs depressing really.
There was a, dunno, "mistake" waaaay back where even if you're playing as Lumine, Jean and Lisa will address you as he/him (i encountered it once by the subscript and the other via voiceline,can't remember what part of the story though) that's why we used to think that the canon traveller is Aether. Welp, they fixed it tho so it's ok now
Yeah iirc I think that goes both ways. For Aether they also used the wrong pronoun (she/her/princess) in some parts of the quests too. I played both Lumine and Aether on diff accounts hence why it's noticeable.

Ok, this video is straight to the point, and clarifies once and for all this absolutely nonsense arguing about who is the "real" canon. Sadly, there will be some people yet to extend the debate only for stupidity purposes. Any sibling you select in the game, that one will be the lead protagonist in your journey. Both stories are connected, and the main plot is not about Keqing, or Shenhe, or Ayaka, Xinqiu, Itto, or whatever other character, it is about the siblings, no one else. Period. Excellent video!
@mushroom that is correct my friend. I have never understood why people created all this mess about who's canon or not, since they are the protagonists, and as you mentioned, Lumine appeared in the first promotional contents.

Iâm happy that they stick with Aether because I choose Aether and it help with my immersion but I think they should at least switch up sometime because I feel bad for those who choose Lumine. At least in anniversaries art. That would be nice to have both version :))

I prefer Lumine as canon traveler. It's because i like playing with her more but it's also because animes usually don't have female character as lead role. So i wanted Lumine to get the lead role. Also i think Aether also fits abyss twin too. Lumine fits it more but Aether can also give the vibe abyss twin.

And in MOST cases the pronouns do change, but in the part of the "we will be reunited" where Dane was with Lumine:
Aether was referred to, as the "Abyss Princess" and "she" in a few cases in the text.
So they did slip up a bit with the pronouns. I might not have noticed, if not for my OCD.
I started with Aether, i started to get a bit bored because no more quest left. So i started another account with Lumine for being back on quest ( Angry, emotional, etc). And i'm really happy to play both of them.đ„°
The fact is Paimon is the real canon traveler, since she talks majority of the time, the twins are her sidekicks.
There really is no "canon" twin, it's just that Lumine isn't advertised anymore not sure why :(

It's a gacha game of course female character would have higher demographic. Raiden is the highest selling, hu tao is the highest rerun selling, there's more female character than male, the only character to get a skin is female. Mihoyo PR team ain't stupid, making female more is literally an easy cash grab. They don't make itto a new model for male but have a row of female child with no male. Theres a positive to having both canon. It eliminates any theories about these two immediately pertaining hidden identities. Dainsleif = aether theory, primordial = lumine, theyre all immediately imvalidated because these hidden identities would change genders depending on who you chose.

Oh, thank you for clearing it up i saw a comment that said aether was the canon traveler so i stuck with it since it made sense they also said that mihoyo confirmed it (they had no evidence but i guess i was just stupid and believed it anyway) and at the time i just started the game and stuck to it ever since (the reason why i thought it made sense is because well the ads and trailers as said in the video)
To be honest, it's up to you. Since it's up to you, it is up to Mihoyo to choose who will be the main character role for their clips. You like Aether being the mc? Cool. Lumine as mc? Cool as well.
It's just truly a matter of preference, character interaction regardless like how Tartaglia calls the Traveler. Since the Abyss Sibling trust us to know the truth of the world and they already know, that should be the basis both are either canon.
Since MiHoYo said that both are canon travellers, it ultimately means that it is similar to alternate universes.

I like both as the canon one but i think mihoyo picks aether and not lumine if they were playing the game. I have neutral feelings about whoâs the evil twin and the good one. But i think lumine is more fit to be the evil one by 00.01%, since she gives me that âbad girlâ vibes and aether as the âinnocent boyâ vibes lmao poor them. If you Choose Aether (Let's say for my version he's the canon protag) you have to follow the main storyline about "defeating the unknown god" and stuff, but if you choose Lumine you basically have to do abyss stuff and protect your twin while also making sure they don't try to stop the abyss.
