- Gorkha is a town in central Nepal which is located on a hill overlooking the Himalayas. It became part of Nepal when King Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha (also known as Gurkha) unified the country 250 years ago. The district headquarters is in Gorkha Bazaar. For our seventh episode, we explored Barpak & Laprak in Gorkha district.
Barpak is a village in the northern belt of Gorkha located at 1900 m elevation. The village has 1200 houses of Gurung inhabitants. It was the epicenter of 2015's earthquake that claimed over 9,000 lives, leaving thousands injured across the country.
Laprak, In Gupsi Pakha in Gorkha district lies about 2,750m above sea level and there are 573 identical, evenly spaced, two storeyed brick buildings.

I was as lucky to have visited Barpak and Laprak in 1991 but it was in summer so didn't see snow however the majestic Ganesh Himal was upright proudly like you have mentioned. We were there to study on facilitating of Water Pipeline as the British Lahure. I second every bit you said about the people and although they don't have much but are happy to share everything that they have. I am in love with your words, It's easy to seek smile in difficult time but not so easy to smile whilst the life is all hunky-dory. Thank you to your team for reminding of my time in those places. On your videos please try to show houses, and villages that have kept their traditional architecture that is unique to Nepal. In Nepal we have beautiful villages with houses that are harmonious to the surrounding. But today in the name of modernization and a way to show-off one's wealth, we are destroying our treasury of traditional houses to build ugly concrete blocks that we see all over Kathmandu. We need to save our architecture. We need to save our villages. We have done enough damage to Kathmandu and Pokhara Valley. Nepal is not just mountains, it is also its heritage. So please do not hesitate to encourage people via your videos to save, and further develop our heritage.
