  • What happens if a nuclear submarine needs to release steam underwater? Today, we dive into the deep and silent world of submarines to answer this question. What are the risks when steam is suddenly lost? Can a submarine still function without its steam system? And how does such a vessel remain undetected after releasing steam? Keep watching, as we reveal the secrets of these crucial operations in the depths of the ocean.
Aboard a submarine, the ever-present hum of machinery and the steady thrum of propulsion fade into the background as a constant lullaby. But this sense of calm can shatter in an instant with a malfunction in the vessel's lifeblood: superheated steam. A sudden rupture in a steam line unleashes a torrent of invisible fury. Temperatures soar past 500°C (932°F), transforming water vapor into a scalding weapon. Exposed crew members become the unfortunate targets, their skin erupting in horrific burns that can prove fatal. The agonizing screams might be short-lived, drowned out by the deafening hiss of escaping steam that fills the confined compartments. #submarine #documentary #usnavy

As a graduate of the U. S. Navy's nuclear power school who is qualified in and has served on nuclear submarines I can say with some authority that everything said in this video is wrong!

@@julietphillips1991 Any steam leak can be isolated in less than three seconds without loss of electric power or propulsion. Loss of propulsion will not cause a submarine to sink rapidly. Submarines are carefully trimmed to have neutral buoyancy so if they stop, they maintain their current depth. They don't use superheated steam, they use saturated steam. The steam does not contain any radioactive material so radiation exposure from a steam leak is impossible. I could go on but I think you get the idea.

I was on a 688 Class submarine that was in Diego Garcia in 1981. The sub was moored to a sub tender multiple times during the Iranian hostage crisis...and the year was 1981.

If you are ever in an all out Damage Control and Battle Station exercise. You'd understand the pressures of an actual emergency. The United States Navy trains hard and realistically as possible to actually fight hard and win on to victory. This is our United States Navy 🇺🇸!

As someone who served 8 years on 3 separate US. nuclear submarines, I can categorically say that this video is absolutely inaccurate and divorced from fact. Before you make a CZcams video, have your facts straight. Maybe talk to one of us who served on nuclear submarines before you do this again 🤬
