@@hardcastle4419 You missed the point: If Nixon had the immunity that some are trying to assert now, then he would have had nothing to fear once he left office. This means presidents do not have blanket immunity, and Ford pardoned him for more than just "their friendship."
I always say that Ford pardoning Nixon is one of the biggest failures we have made as a country.
The issue is not just whether presidents have immunity (if that is the case, equal protection under law is just bull), but Trump is using this nonsense to delay the trial beyond the election date. If he is elected (it is now better than 50%), all bets off.

SCOTUS should consider whether impeachment is the basis for double jeopardy very carefully. If the SCOTUS rules it is double jeopardy then future impeachments for insurrection and/or sedition would mean future presidents would have no deterrent for those crimes.
The insurrection defined in the 14 amendment is not the same as the hyperbole associated with January 6. People that claim otherwise are paid liars or brain dead CNN believers. Cheers

Even if the Senate trial had been a criminal trial, and if the charges had been the same (which they weren't), there would be no double jeopardy issue: It is routine for another trial to follow a hung jury. In the Senate trial, 57 out of 100 senators voted to convict.
Only if a judge declares a mistrial in a hung jury situation. The Senate isn't set up like that. The official decision of the United States Senate on record is "Not Guilty".
