- In today's vlog we head to Winter Garden Florida for a little day date! We had an appointment in town so we thought why not make a day of it and have a hot dog date! We went to Harrell's Hot Dogs and some of the other fun shops downtown. We also went to the book store and found some really fun new books. When we went home we also give you a little haul of the things we found at the shops and the books we bought! We hope you had fun hanging out with us today! Back in the eighties there were hot wheels that you would crash and they would look like they crashed after they hit something. They were called crack ups. When you talked about the cars being “bammed up” it unlocked the memory of them in my mind. lol
There’s an episode of the PBS show Arthur where the younger sister gets tubes in her ears, maybe that would be a good resource to show Jackson if he ever shows that he’s nervous about it or has questions. ☺️💗

I’m a surgical nurse and we do ear tubes and it’s sooooo quick and easy. I’m sure Jackson will do great!
how come you don't need ear plugs anymore in water? Aren't they opening the canal more?
Hi! Kids ENT nurse here and just wanted to reach out to say that unfortunately tubes don’t usually get rid of kids having ear infections :/ Sometimes that is the case but more often then not they continue. Ear tubes are more of a “quality of life” type procedure to decrease pain with ear infections and hopefully decrease the need for oral antibiotics as ear drop antibiotics are used instead. I always feel so bad when parents get so excited for tubes but don’t realize it doesn’t usually resolve them. For our older kiddos (4 years +) they talk about removing adenoids as well when kids get tubes.
I think it depends on the child mu daughter got them 27 yrsago at 1yr 1/2 and she's never had ear infections as bad they worked wonders
I agree with you. I have had earaches all my life and I'm 66 years old. Steam works and I just bought a Navage machine and love it. My ears and nose are clean.
My son had 2 sets of tubes and he still had terrible infections. Twice it was so bad he had blood draining out of his ears. Very scary. He's now 16 and still continues to get ear infections
I had what I know them as grommets when I was very young due to have yearly ear infections.
They did stop the infections for a few years. But now every 3/4 years I still get infections and I am 33 now.
I am now having to go to the hospital every 6 months to get them checked and cleaned
My child had tubes placed at 2 years old. They fell out on their own after about 1 year and since then she has had zero ear infections. She is now 7.5 years old.
I am a recovery room nurse! I have recovered many kids from tubes and they all do very well. They are usually just a little cranky or weepy after anesthesia bc they are confused by why they feel “weird”. After being discharged and having a good nap they wake up much happier. He will do great!

I opted to join my neighborhood book club today, so I was making note of the books you shared in case they might be interested. "The Only One Left" sounds so good! It makes me want to go rogue and read that instead of whatever book club is doing for February. 😆

The best seller lists are often similar but not identical because they are based on proprietary data collection and analysis methods. So they may be looking at different retailers and sorting genres and categories differently when determining sales numbers. Also, I am a librarian and I love books and if you decide to try to start an online book club I would love that!
I had ear tubes put in when I was just a little older than Jackson. My earliest childhood memories are filled with antibiotics and fevers and ear infections and once I had my ear tubes put in, it was like night and day. I could hear clearly and didn’t have to turn up the TV so loud and I wasn’t sick anymore unless there was a bug going around.
I vaguely remember the surgery day but more than anything I remember the relief. I’m really grateful to my parents for getting that done for me.
This is what helped us avoid ear infections and ear tubes: limiting dairy. No straight-up cow’s milk to drink, ice cream, or whipped cream. Cheese and yogurt in moderation daily. Ice cream alternatives: sorbet, coconut milk ice cream, or almond milk ice cream. Whipped cream alternative: Coco Whip. Good luck!

Good luck on Jackson’s ear tubes. They really do help with the ear infections. My son had his first set when he was 2.5 years old. We were shocked when the procedure only lasted 10 minutes. My son did lose them after a year. He needed them replaced and he has now had 6 total sets. The last set was put in summer 2020-they were a different type-long lasting. We are so pleased with how he has been feeling since keeping them in.

Ear tubes also help with language. Jackson’s voice sounds muffled, it’s partly due to his auditory input, how he hears with the fluid in his ears. Tubes will help him hear better, and will help his language
When Jackson gets the tubes inserted, make sure to have some juice or other beverage for after. When my goddaughter had hers put on, the anesthesia made her super thirsty!😊

First, I am so glad to hear Jackson will be able to get some relief with ear tubes. We didn’t experience it in our family, but I have heard so many success stories of friends with little ones who needed to get them and how the relief was almost instantaneous.
Second, it was so cool to hear that central Florida also had an environmental studies center where you got to go out and explore the local ecosystem. I grew up in Stuart, FL and we also had an environmental studies center where we got to track through the mangroves on Indian River Lagoon in 4th grade. So cool that this is in multiple places in Florida!
We would absolutely love for you guys to come check out my fiancée’s new bookstore in Kissimmee, White Rose Books and More! Jackson would have a blast in the children’s section.

After a lifetime of chronic ear infections, I had a tube put in at 45yrs! (That was 10 years ago!) It was done right in the office, I was awake for the entire thing, and then drive an hour home. Best thing I ever did! I haven’t had an ear infection since! Easy peasy!

My uncle rented a limo once and picked all of the kids in the family up. It was sooo awesome! We felt so so cool 😎
Jackson will do great! I have had them 3 times and as an adult now I do still have ear issues, HOWEVER, it did improve my quality of life. I recommend “ear planes” for the airplane after he gets tubes. Worth every penny and won’t fly without them, us with ear problems can’t just get off the plane like a regular person without ear pain. Wishing you guys luck and Jackson a speedy recovery when the time comes ❤

This was such a fun video! I'm glad you got everything straightened out with Jackson and his ear tubes - and he's so lucky he doesn't have to worry about getting his ears wet when swimming or in the shower. That was the actual worst. A book club sounds like a really fun idea, but horror and thrillers scare me 😂 Can't wait to see more as you prepare for your upcoming cruise!

Ear tubes! My son had them put in at 6months. He was getting ear infection every 3 weeks. Now as a mom it’s soooo nerve wracking with them having surgery. I want you to know he will still get ear infections BUT it will take away all the pressure discomfort that comes along with it. They do fall out eventually but they are magic when you fly. Also advice I was given by a mom who have a child with same ear issues, a little antihistamine daily will help with the fluid build up and opens the sinuses for better drainage of the fluid(obviously talk to your pediatrician). I am reading The Last One Left and i am liking it so far. It started out very interesting and is keeping my attention.
Here in Tampa, when you are in the 6th grade, you go to Nature's classroom. It was so fun. They teach you how to live off the land. You also get to go canoeing in the Hillsborough River.
Oh dang, I live in Tampa and we didn’t get to do any of that in school. I also went to Catholic school, St. Lawerence…maybe that’s why.
I manage a local independent bookstore in San Diego and am so happy that you support local businesses! It’s the only way we stay in business. Always love a good book haul!
We have a bunch of bath books where dipping them in the water changes the colour of parts of the page. They’re awesome.
There is a food place called Cafe Zupas. Where they have all different types of salads to choose from and you can customize your own with so many things. They also have sandwiches and soups. We have a few here in Minnesota and it's one of my favorite places.
I think you will really enjoy The Last One Left. It was pretty good. Love the choices of books. They all sound like a lot of fun.

My first job in high school was as a server at a food spot where we made fresh made salads. It was like a Chipotle. You picked your base greens and your mix ins and your toppings and your dressing, so you could make your own. Or you could pick one of the signature options where everything was picked out. It was so good and I loved having a free weekly salad! I always thought there should be more places like it.

Love watching you guys. Love the family outings and home vlogs the most. If I ever visit Florida it'll have to be in the winter time. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba which is nicknamed "Winterpeg" . It's been so cold this week, -19 Celcius was one of our warmest temps, that's -2.2 F.
You guys made me feel so old today, I graduated in 1982 and there were no personal computers. Our high school had just gotten electric typewriters. Love those boys, I miss cuddling and reading to kids. My 2 are all grown up, 27 & 30 this year.
I would love to start reading more myself. I think it would be awesome for Jenn to start “book club” videos or live shows every now and then. Just have a way to share our thoughts while reading or share book suggestions! 😊

I had ear tubes twice as a little kid and it fixed my horrible earaches beautifully! I do remember getting them out the second time and it was nothing. Easy.
