- GM just released the details on their new ZR1 Corvette. This will be the most powerful internal combustion American car ever and it will also be the first ever twin turbo corvette. This leads me to question if I should sell my Demon 170 to get the new ZR1. I take you through the pro's and con's of both cars and give you my final thoughts on which would be the better car to own.

YES!!!Sell the demon please its NO match for the ZR1 PERIOD. Shouldnt even be a question.
For me the best selling point on this car is that it doesn’t even need E85 or race fuel for the full 1064 hp. Achieving this on 93 octane is super convenient. If I had the money I’ll buy this over the 170.
Yeah but with all that power it still goes the same theoretical top speed of a demon without a limiter because of how much the aero and weights slow it down. Now the regular ZR1 might not have this problem however it still is heavy. I understand the reason to get the zr1 would be to sell it for even more but if you talk about owning I personally would say what your taste is, track or drag because they both have same theoretical top speed, and both do what they do best (well the corvette a bit controversial because of GTD) and they have similar acceleration.
GTD won’t have a chance in Hell against that ZR1 not even the ZO6. 170 Demon or ZR1 its a no Brainer and it Handles.. ZR1 will manhandle the 170 in every aspect even on the strip…

I’m a Dodge technician and a diehard Mopar fan. But the way Stellantis is treating the company and firing employees. You already had to put an engine in yours. Budas? Is having engine trouble. Others that use there’s is having problems. Dump it. Stellantis probably got there cost cutter involved somewhere made the engine weaker. Sell it. 😂

You have a tough job sir. All the techs do, but I have worked in an industry that went from 3 million to 100K employees in about 30 years. Very unpleasant. With all the CDJR closings coming please make sure you have an escape plan if you need it. Guessing that techs are in high demand, but would assume there are good and bad places to work within the industry. Good Luck to you.

The mark up might be 200k. The zo6 last fall had a 100k mark at dealerships by me and within a weeks time they were selling them with 100k mark up the zr1 will have a higher markup and they will sell. But youtubers are more likely to get them for less to no markup cause it's endorsement for chevy

The ZR1 is a monster and the Demon is a ticking time bomb ready to explode and be headed to the shop. I love dodge way more than Chevy, but man what a mess the 2023 model years are. True paperweight POS.

Agreed, I drive the hell out of my "cheap" cars (Fiesta ST, Camaro SS, Elise ) and never really care that there's faster cars out there. I really would miss the manual trans anyway...

I would go for the ZR1 in a heartbeat! Lighter, aerodynamic, more power and on 93, twin turbo, flat plane crank.
It barely goes above 215 mph which is slower than ford gt and as fast as 170.

@@benjaminmatute9085the demon is restricted to 155 mph due to tire compound safety speed, it’s a drag car soft compound tires to hook. And just because it goes a top speed doesn’t mean it’s the fastest thing it’s a balances of acceleration via gearing. The ford GT is slow compared to this. Probably needed a softer tire to hook at lower speeds having a lot more hp and only 2wd.

And there’s no demon 170 that will ever touch 200mph LOL the ford gt’s top speed was claimed at 216 but most top speed runs with the ford gt have shown closer to 214 which was what the low wing C7 ZR1 could do as shown in chevys video showing how they got the certification of 212. You’re already on the internet and apparently can’t do any factual research lol.

The Demon 170 will hold its value longer and stronger than the Vet. The 2018 are still selling well above original sticker.

The ZR-1 vs the Demon 170 are not fair comparisons. I think the competition for the ZR-1 are Porsche GT cars, specifically the GT2RS. The Demon 170 is a killer car, I would be interested to see if you could get an allotment for a ZR-1.

Honestly, I'm not hating this idea, but getting that new ZR1 may be an uphill battle. Maybe if you act fast and get into the que, you may get a shot.
But you'll probably be better off selling the 170 privately because a dealership may not pay you fairly.
GM gave special allocations to individuals with large YT and social media followings when the Z06 first came out, EddieX and Speed Phenom both got first round allocations and have smaller channels than Racer X.
You'd have to have put your name on the list last year to get an early allocation. I have a good friend that put his allocation in for the ZR1 and Z06 last year and he just received the Z06.

There will not be a limited quality amount of ZR1's so they will build as many as people order

Thought GM was going to build as many ZR1s as demanded - in other words, you want one, they'll build you one. Not limiting the production numbers should keep the price down/less dealer markup.
demon 170 is a great car sounds good probably can't take deep corners properly but still a good car but i think the zr1 is so much better hard to say you shouldn't trade it in.

Every new Corvette keeps surpassing expectations. Just think how crazy it’s gonna be when they add the E-Ray’s hybrid system to the ZR1 to make a 1,224 horsepower AWD C8 Zora!!!
Oh heck yeah, if you can get your hands on one! New monster Vette plus a retro Mopar project like Viper or Stealth TT could be a FUN combo for the channel.
...not to mention, the 170 really is a 1-trick pony compared w/ a balanced sports car.

You got 1 think a little wrong. It’s 215 with the aero package and unknown without. Think about it. There are cars in the 600-650 hp range that car get over 200. The original Bugatti Veron did over 250 with less power.
100% DUMP the 170 and go with the ZR1.

Awesome what GM has accomplished. Since the ZR-1 looks much the same as a Z06, I wonder if Z06 owners will copy the look and perhaps put on some turbo's like a ZR-1.

I prefer a manual transmission, so the most horsepower you can get with a manual transmission is the Challenger Hellcat. So that is what I bought.
Challenger over any Vette any day of the week for me. But Kudos to GM for creating another Star Wars vehicle. It is looking nasty, time for Stelantis to sell Dodge to a real visionary enthusiast so they can answer with something besides a Hornet...lmao
Demon 170 is a one trick pony that can’t go around corners ! You can’t even compare an obsolete Demon 170 to a ZO6 it will wipe the demon around a race track .
I breathe Mopars -Having a 22 Scat Challenger & 69 1/2 Road Runner. Stellantis killer V-8 Hemi’s products are gone. That Vette is bad ass & has a future.Sell before this engine blows. That’s sad for Dodge.

Look racer x i have a cadillac Ats-v with the twin turbos and trust and believe GM have it figured out there is virtually no turbo lag the turbine is made out of titanium extremely light and responsive!
I am a major dodge enthusiast but if getting a zr1 was ever a option for me I would take it.
Get rid of the lemon dodge sold you and get the ZR1 - my Z06 is the best car purchase I ever made, you won’t regret the ZR1 if you get it

The Demon 170 is the far superior car and it's not the same ole same ole foreign exotic or off brand Ferrari like the C8 is. The Demon 170 is also the faster car, especially in a Drag Race. You would be an absolute fool to trade your Demon in for that off brand Ferrari.
Racer X, great video, but you shared something that is incorrect. The LT4 engine has an aluminum block. You said it had a cast iron block. Cast iron only used in truck LT engines.
I always liked the ZR1 since the 2009 came out. First factory Corvette that could go 200 mph. I will miss the LT4 and LT5. I'm surprised they don't have a C8 with one of those engines.
Using this car just for drag racing is a waste of a good car. If you want it just for drag racing you could build a faster car for a lot less money. To set this up for drag racing really kills what they’re meant for.

I would sell the 170 just from the fact it had that meltdown. I couldn't trust it after that. The ZR1 is gonna be a lot lighter too. Not too keen on the flat plane cranks, but I would give it a shot if I was in your shoes.
They may say the demon 170 starts at 96k, but in reality, it doesn't. I haven't seen one under 140k and seen them as high as 236k. Those are corvette Z06 to possibly ZR1 prices.

Well that’s what it is now they they handle well too. Vette’s aren’t muscle cars anymore. They’ve had world class handling since the C5 Z06.
May rival the Demon 170? The ZR1 is going to be 100 times better than the Demon. Lighter, faster, better handling
The more down force in the rear the less down forces in the front tires to steering the car where you want to go

Absolutely sell the 170 and get the zr1. That zr1 is amazing, “stock” 76mm twins. A few bolt ons and tune should really wake it up too. (1400hp)
I would go for the ZR1 if you can make the finance numbers work, for several reasons. First - I trust Chevrolet a LOT more than I trust Dodge these days. Carlos is reckless with the brand we all love, who knows if it will even be here in a couple of years. The dealers are straight up criminals. Not all of them, but the lack of visual action from the "good" dealers and the corporate office in denouncing/punishing the bad ones just destroys the brand reputation. Second - You said it yourself, the Vette is likely to be a better car overall. It may not win as much on the drag strip, but the Demon performance there hasn't been consistently great either. But the way it looks, is that everywhere outside of a drag strip the Vette will outperform. Third - Style. The Demon looks basically the same as the 2008 Challenger. It's an old platform that honestly should have been moved on from years ago. The C8 is on its third model year. Lastly - The Vette won't be here for another year or so. By that time, you'll already have a lot of content on your Demon. Moving to a new vehicle, especially if you get your hands on one of the first ones available, gives your channel an excellent opportunity. The Vette is going to be the hot new car on everyone's minds, would love to see you doing the first impressions :)
The price of the ZR1 will be to the MOON! The 170 will be tremendously MORE attainable for most. I think the new ZR1 will be far north of 250K plus especially when dealer markups occur.
Might compete with it? Your kidding right? Your car goes straight, that's it. The ZR1 takes corners and is fast as hell. I'll take the ZR1 over a demon any day of the week.

The ZR1 would be such a cool car to have for yourself and for content for your channel. The only problem I see with it is the MSRP will be very pricey to start with and they’re going to want to totally screw you on the asking price OTD. That is if you can get your hand on one of the first run ZR1 to begin with.

Get out of Stellantis. Get out of the 170. Cut your losses, you’ve already lost the collector value in it with the engine swap. And, frankly, better for the channel overall. Yes, every other CZcamsr will have this car but, might as well get as much of that gravy train as you can. Maybe you can roll it into the Zora later on.

ZR1. The Demon is cool but it's a one trick pony. Dont get me wrong, I like it but with the Vette you get a car that does more than 1 thing exceptionally well. And you get a Targa top! True supercar.

The ZR1 for sure is a better buy. It's a car you can drive on a road trip or take to your track of choice. It's a no brainer. The price will be the down fall. The dealerships will mark up tremendously unfortunately.
Demon 170 is a one trick pony. 150 mph top speed is not a supercar, its a single purpose car and access to drag strips shrinks every year. ZR1 will be equal at the strip and run circles around it on the street or on the track. 215 MPH top speed is what supercars are supposed to run. The icing on the cake is that GM will still be in business in 3 years. Dodge won't even exist. If you can find a sucker to pay near MSRP with a replacement motor then dump it now.

Dodge should bring back the Dodge Stealth. Make it mid engine and give it the best racing tech. Much like the top end stealth a few decades ago. I REALLY like the demon but I’ve had significantly more fun in corvettes than I’ve ever had in a hellcat.
Edit: oops I just saw they ARE bringing back the stealth as an SUV lol. Shame. Anyway, they should bring back the viper. There’s clearly a market for it.

Zr1 will be an amazing car, but why would anyone compare a corvette to a challenger? Price difference is basically 2x and performance wise two complete different cars. One is a muscle car, and one is a hyper car. The zr1 is in the class of Ferrari, lambo, McLaren. The logic of most of these comments is mind boggling, but I guess that’s what makes reading all these comments so much fun!
Good luck selling the Demon but do it soon. You will be extremely lucky to get your hands on the ZR1! I suspect you will not be paying MSRP…there will probably be markups on the limited supply that may be available. What will happen to your channel while you wait for a ZR1?

I would go ZR1. I love challengers. However my favourite model is the Red Eye. Or even a Black Ghost. Both great cars no matter how you look at it
No way on the price for the ZR1. Will be around $140K starting price (MSRP of course, but initially mark-ups will be rather impressive, I'll give you that). Fully optioned ZR1s, though, could reach much closer to $200K or even a bit more.
I won’t trade my 2018 Demon for anything, it was the OG Drag special and a game changer. I love it more today than when I rolled it off the showroom floor.
They are already running in the 8's @170 with the base model C8 and twin turbo kits...And some dealers are offering a twin turbo kits on the base corvette as well with 1000 HP.....Ford also has a dealer add on package for the 5.0 that will put you at 800 hp for around $50k if you get the base model mustang, factory installed with a WARRANTY....OR they will add the dealer installed kit on your current 5.0 for 10K...When you are running at these levels, aerodynamics and weight is a BIG deal and it's going to be very hard to overcome almost 1000 extra pounds with the Challenger....They are all fast as hell so get what you want...💪😎

Trade that POS Demon 170 in for the ZR1 without question.
I am not saying GM doesn't have problems. The ZR1 is hands down better to own in the long run. No way I would buy a 170. Truthful, I would buy a classic car before either one of them. Long term maintenance is going to be impossible.
