    I'm so glad Graham Norton is still doing his talk show! I love the variety of celebrities that come together for each show. It's simply the best talk show for actors and musicians.

    Lek means to play in Swedish and other Scandinavian languages. Cool to see such connections jump out between Old English and Old Norse.

      I grew up in East Yorkshire and we sometimes said "Are you larking?" or refer to larking about meaning playing. I wonder if it comes from the same root. I'm guessing it does.

      Yep, toy brand LEGO is short for the Danish expression 'leg godt', which means 'play well'.

      @@albertsnijders7566 Definitely not. The Alfred the Great’s children and grandson basically conquered what was “the Danelaw” and unified England when Athelstan took Northumbria, which was as early as 927AD.

    Yorkshire "leck" is probably norse, we say "lek" in swedish or "att leka" to describe children playing

      Some people do. And sometimes it's spelled Rafe. Other times ordinary Wreck It Ralph. It's a class thing. He's very posh.

    I'm not one for formality or spending tons on clothes, etc. & this is just my opinion, but Ralph Fiennes looks really nice, Sir Patrick looks comfortably nice, but (& again, I'm not into this stuff so I could be UTTERLY WRONG) Bella Ramsay looks like it's a common Saturday hanging out with friends. Layton Williams...I think would look really nice except it seems like the suit was hung under a tree for a week. Why on earth? Is there a reason for this?
    Also... Layton's bit about accents wasn't included, apparently :/

    Bella Ramsey's accent is very distinct and very regional. I say that as a Canadian with an ear for these things, as usually I can guess with high accuracy someone's place origin, their education, as well as their other pit stops along the way.

      That depends on what you exactly mean by that expression. The WHO has officially downgraded Covid-19 from pandemic to endemic last May, so in the literal sense you are right, however Covid-19 is far from over, hence the word endemic. It is not gone at all unfortunately, and needs to be actively monitored for the long run by the various governments across the world, because the virus will not die out anytime soon, and we still lack a long term vaccine, so the numbers of people becoming infected will be most likely stable, predictable, and therefore manageable. I hope this helps.😌

    Dont really believe Fiennes there it was like when someone comes on GN and says the total opposite of the reality to sound more noble or even kinder. For example during the odious thatcher era there were plenty of people in the midlands who were made to feel throughly shamed sbout how they spoke

IN any case, even media giants like netflix are prioritising (not excluding tho) people who speak the queen's English like Huddleston, fiennes and Cumberbatch. This is the reality. Girls,?       Wasn’t Thatcher herself demeaned in government due to her gender, education and class though? I’m pretty sure the ‘old boys’ said things about the fact that she was a “grocer’s daughter” and even demeaned her “grammar school education”. The gall of those people…’odious’ is an apt enough word to describe that set in UK politics.
