The little cleaning thing you put inside the water actually goes into the screwtop area of the Vicks humidifier... The one with the gasket.

That Vicks one is a POS! Have fun cleaning that base which unless you're willing to sit with a small brush and other things to get into those corners, will never get 100% clean. Also, the fan part gets moldy eventually, so you have to screw all that stuff out. So poorly designed I threw it out because I got tired of all the hassles. I'd love to hear what you think of it a year later.

I have one of the cheap ones. The filters are about 4 to 6 dollars. About the same as the "cleaning capsule" you have for yours. You are correct that the efficiency drops off after a month or so. All I do is clean the machine with vinegar and soak the filter once a month in straight vinegar and the efficiency returns to normal. So in the end, the only real difference is the 50 dollars LESS I paid for my machine and yes, it is a little louder. I call it my FREE white noise, sleep machine. Thanks for sharing your video.

Also adding, I recall the one I used to use. didn't hear the damn thing at all.
Did the job, no filter needed. just fill the tank with tap and done. helped me when i was a kid. might keep my eye out for another one like I had. would like them for the dryer air here in Texas in the summer.

I love my cool mist humidifier has worked well for my for over a year. This is more cleaning but easy to do. I also run water with a few drops of tea tree oil through mine from time to time I've never had an issue with mold. And for any hard water stains u could use vinger undiluted it works wonders

I wish you would have turned yours on because I just set up my Grandma's Vicks like yours but I can't see any mist? It's on and everything? I wonder if it's suppose to be this way.

the vicks humidifier is an older design, using the shaft that goes into the water, and a fan to create vapor. i am going to get a smaller version of the one you bought for my bedroom soon.

I just got humidifier that is sorta the same design (Honeywell Cool Moisture Humidifier HCM-350) and i turned it on then read the directions. I was supposed to soak the filter in cold water first. Not sure how much difference it makes. Just in case you didn't know

In the summer I use the dehumidifier to remove the moisture from the air, and the in the winter I use the stored water (grey water) I got from the dehumidifier and put it in my humidifier. The humidifier stays very clean and does not leave any white dust. Completely maintenance free except to refill it.

Uh... my first thought was, maybe your house is just really dirty, and filter got overly full sooner than what would be considered normal by this manufacturer.

26 secs into the video I can say that thing is more complex then is has to be.I had a humidifier that was just a big ass water tank with a motor spinning plastic rod that went on top and worked just fine. them old humidifiers. that thing looks like a damn water dam power plant turbine. lol

If the filter is discolored after a few days its your water supply man. Get a water filter. They sell them at Walgreens., lol

You are going to have a few issues with this one. After using tap water for vapor-mist you will have to clean the Base Tray of deposit-residue after 3 complete cycle fills. Keep YOUR RECEIPT & REGISTER your unit! I had mine for one year and did not do this. The ELECTRIC motor draws up moisture. . Thus...Ta Da! You CAN get a corroded motor! . Also, Ebay has them BRAND NEW with Free Shipping for $34-$39 dollars.Never seen those white spots (my eyes are good)

your water is too hard, that's why the wick of the first humidifier quickly saturated

So how much sticky white dust are you experiencing all over your furniture, carpeting and floors? It's composed of all the contaminants and minerals in the water...along with the respiratory problems from breathing all that in. Run it for several days and then go cook something on your gas stove...notice the flames are now bright red instead of the usual blue?
With your old humidifier, all those contaminants stayed within the wick. With steam humidifiers, they collect on the heating element.
Your old humidifier and wick changed color because of your water quality. It kept all the garbage where it belongs instead of flinging it into the air like an impeller or ultra sonic humidifier.
Output also goes down noticeably on a wick humidifier when the air becomes saturated at 30% or more simply because it's doing its job.
Table top replacement wicks are very inexpensive, usually $5 for a box of two. You can also buy a large bottle of disinfectant for about $3 which will last for years. Add a few drops at each fill up and the wicks will last much longer and you'll rarely need to clean the humidifier.
The Protec cartridge is included with the visible cool mist because it will throw bacteria out into the air. Those last 30 days and cost about $8 each. You can also cut down on the white dust by only using DISTILLED WATER or adding a demineralization cartridge which lasts about 30 days.
