- After 9 months of living here, we’ve finally gotten down to doing a house tour.
Our 3-room HDB flat may be tiny at 62 sqm, but we’ve made it as adaptable with our space saving furniture from TAOBAO! We hope our video gives others, who might be getting a 3-room, know that it’s possible to have a spacious space without spending a bomb on renovations or furniture.

@@HowNowTaobao Taobao furniture generally quite acceptable in quality. The downside is the distance between China and Singapore. Any replacements take quite a while to cross the seas. The experience is also hit or miss. Great finds.

Yes I think that would be helpful. It’s daunting to order big items from TaoBao so if you can show how you order your furnitures, the logistics of it, shipping and were you taxed in the end, etc?
To be frank, buying from Taobao is really cheap, sea shipping fee inclusive. The only thing I find inconvenient buying from Taobao is you need to be quite good in Chinese, if you need customization and extra packaging.

Hi May, it’s true!! Taobao stuff are cheap but it comes at the cost of communicating/reading Chinese since taobao is a full Chinese platform. But I guess most of us Singaporean Chinese do have the benefit of at least knowing how to read/type Chinese, just gotta work harder to learn more!

I also buy all funiture other then the reno package of build in kitchen canbinets and wardrobes, the rest all from taobao even mattresses. One thing good about taobao you can measure the space that you have and order from TB customised to the size you need. Items like settee, blinds, sofa set, bed frame ........etc.

For the drying rack, our ID got the electrician to install it so we're not very sure how it was installed in actually HAHA.

Thank you!! Unfortunately, they’re not! We weren’t to that level of purchasing curtains/blinds from taobao back then and got them locally. But I’ve seen many others who’ve purchased them from taobao though, looks really good!!

Oh WOW this is impressive! We haven't gotten to that stage because we didn't want too many large carpentry that might make our 3 room look even smaller. Have to ping you when we move and look for these larger items!

Hi Jessie! Yes, the table is quite far from the backrest of the sofa. So for both of us if we use it, we won't be comfortably leaning back on the sofa and would be leaning forward (like in the video). The wood doesn't seem to scratch the floor, as much as we've used it.

Yes, that’s true about shelves! For the one at our entrance, we actually rarely clean it because we have so many things on it (and we blue tack them to the shelf). But so far it’s been not too bad!

Hi Kristy, that’s great to hear!! Yes, finding affordable space saving furniture, that’s not built in, for 3 room is challenging! Hopefully taobao will be an alternative solution for you too!
For the automated hanging rack, we got it from taobao and it was probably about SGD$100-200 (can see the item link in the description!) We got our ID to ask the electrician to install it for us! So it was part of the total costing.

Hi Kristabel! We chose the 乳胶 version of the sofa. But yes, the sofa is less comfortable than “regular”/recliner sofas that we sit at our parents’ place. But we felt the functionality of it makes up for it 🙂

Nice video. Like some of your ideas. Did you know that some there can be come improvements for your fengshui in your house? Cooking area cannot be directly opposite washing area. Bed headboard should not right next to the door opening.

Hello! I usually tell the sellers that I’m shipping it overseas via sea shipment and to pack it properly/securely so prevent damages. I believe some forwarders do offer packaging services at a cost, so depends on who you use.

Hello! Yes, we’ve gotten quite a few compliments on the clock too! Wah, we don’t really track but we charge it when the clock dies 😂 the frequency of that is about once every 1-2 months? It’s not as troublesome as we imagined it to be.

Hi Adriel! Yes, we actually informed our ID on items that we were purchasing from taobao. So the carpenters/electricians installed the items for us during our renovation period :)
But I do know there are companies out there offering installation of taobao items in Singapore! Can try doing a quick search.

Did you guys have any concerns about bugs being in the wood furniture that you guys bought from tabao?
Hello! We didn’t have any concerns on that because we check the reviews thoroughly (can watch our “Don’t Get Scammed!” video on that)
But when we first moved in, we actually discovered ticks in random areas around our house 😰 we don’t have any carpeted area nor pets so it was very unusual. Our only logical suspect was our TB items/packaging brought some in. So ever since then, we’ve unboxed our items outside the house 🥲

If it looks like really good quality and the price is worth getting from TB compared to a local seller/carpentry, it's worth a try! But honestly, buying big ticket items from TB really depends on each individual's risk appetite and confidence! Hello Derrick! The spinning has been smooth but now at the 9th month mark, it has a bit of squeaking. But I’m sure it can be easily solved with WD40 (but we’ve been too lazy to spray haha) 🙂
