- Learn the step-by-step process for long division. This is the fifth in a series of videos corresponding to the McGraw Hill GED Math Book Chapter 1 Exercise 5. Practice what you've learned for FREE at www.quizlet.com, Kate's GED math class, quizlet.com/join/NQ8dfYXHU.
I just want you to know I just got my results for all 4 of my GED tests and I passed. You are absolutely the reason! You were an amazing teacher through the journey! I am 27 and needed reminding of quite a lot. So many videos have thousands or millions of views, YOU are the one that deserves that!!! Thank you so much! Now I can go on with my future career!!! I will always be grateful for your help! I hope your channel continues to grow! 💚💚💚
You are too kind, thank you! So proud of you and I wish you the very best with your college and career goals :). What's next for you?
@@LightandSaltLearning Thank you very much! I am starting out as a low voltage technician, I hope to make my way up to be a project manager like my father. :)
@@jennajohnson8613 What a great career! I wish you all the best and let me know if you end up needing help with the math in college/trade school.
@@LightandSaltLearning You're great thanks Kate! All the best!
I love your personality. Thank you for this. I can do algebra but kept stumping on my division especially with the 0's. You're absolutely right. We do make things too hard. Much appreciated!
Glad it was useful!
A lot of this GED math is life math I’m noticing so I’m starting to pick up on it easier and easier each day. Now I understand how doing division is like doing multiplication backwards. Was reading this book by Barbara Oakley and she was covering all sorts of ways people learn. Thankfully I in the age of information so I can just look it up and find it.
School made this look sooooo hard but you make it look easy.. You explain it so well 👍
Yay! So glad it helped you!
Yeo I don’t know bout you but 5 seconds into the video I could already feel the good vibes and wanted her to be my teacher. This helped a lot since my dumbass completely forgot how to do division
Glad you were feeling the good vibes, Rocky! Don't beat yourself up about forgetting long division. Because most students don't understand why long division works, they just "memorize the steps". When all you do is memorize, it's very easy to forget something, especially when you don't use it in your day to day life. Expert tip: focus on the "why" it works instead of the "how" and you're much more likely to remember the process going forwards. Happy learning!
I would just love to have YOU as my child's teacher. You are AWESOME. I get so aggravated seeing all this "New Math" teaching kids "Big 7" division and all the other new-fangled methods that take equally long to teach, but aren't as fast and efficient when dealing with the full set of problems in the real world.
Thanks! The old-fashioned ways to do math are definitely tried and true for a reason. I would encourage you, however, to not give up on the "new math" entirely. Some of the algorithms allow for much easier mental math, allowing students in the end to actually perform operations much more quickly then they would on paper. It can just take awhile for students to develop those mental math exercises. Check out my "Sight Division" video for an example. It gives a short-cut for long division. Or "partial quotient division" makes it possible for students whose learning issues make memorizing the times tables difficult to still do complicated division problems. Sometimes one method is the easiest way, sometimes another. I say, the more tools our kids have, the better equipped they'll be!
Thank u for helping me to understand the long Division.
You're so very welcome!
I wish If I had such a sweetheart teacher at my school decades ago, I would have been very good at my math :), teacher in this video knows how to teach math the easiest way possible :)
Yes 👍:)
Nicely done! We used your video in math class today, and we think you helped everyone understand long division better.
Yay! So glad you found it useful. FYI If you find any students who still struggle with long division even after a thorough explanation and practice, trying a different algorithm- partial quotient division- might the key they need to unlock the concept of division. Happy teaching!
The teacher is enjoying and teaching us! I want you to be my teacher for long time until I stop studying! Love you mam!👩🏻🏫🙏🏻❤️😘🥰
Thank you! 😃
This video was so helpful for me as an adult learner. Thank you breaking it down for me to understand!

I am so glad!
You are an amazing teacher... thank you!
Thank you!
Really great way of teaching , explain in a very simple way 😘
Glad you think so!
Thanks for helping. I went from not understanding the long division to understanding the long division. Thank you!!!
Yay! I'm so glad.
Brilliant! Had to subscribe, Ive seen lots of maths videos on youtube including mathsantics but you are by far the best.
Yay! Thank you and I'm so glad you found the video helpful.

she is so good at math and she knows long division more than my teacher.
You help me because tomorrow is my exam and answered my review from my sis and got it all right cuz of you thank you! Bet you’re the best teacher! Hopefully in another grade, your my math teacher 😁
So glad the video helped! Good luck on your exam.
Mind blown.. I wish you were my GED teacher, you make it all so simple and understandable!

So glad you found it useful, Ruby. Happy learning!
Why couldn’t you have been my math teacher years ago? It finally makes sense. Thank you!
So glad it's making sense!
this helped me so much thank you
You're welcome
When she said this is not so hard I looked at the time of this video 😅
This helps a lot and more than school like what Ella said.
So glad it was helpful!

What a great teacher! :-)
Thanks, Greg! You're the anti-troll :) Hope you're well!
thank you
Thank you
You're welcome!
Now I get it
Yay!
You're are the best😊👍👍
Thanks :)
On the two digit divisor I used to do the first digit of any to 2 digit number.
That little time xs table chart can u use that in the main ged test on scratch paper
No. If you need a times tables chart on the GED, you'll have to create one yourself by counting by the number you need. The good news: you'll probably only have 1 problem where you need to multiply or divide by hand, so you won't need ALL your times tables, just the number you need to use.
I now want her to be my teacher lol
true
R.I.P BOI
You are funny
i want her to be my teacher to LOL
Boy get wipt cus I have never had a teacher that’s as kind and I know lol means you are laughing ok.👌
your a great teacher..
Thanks, Alissia.
we nied to reduce long division in order to return some land to other organisms.
love your handwriting
Thank u for helping me
You're welcome!
I tried finding you on quizlet i couldnt find you
I actually use a Google site rather than Quizlet now to organize my class sites.google.com/view/gedmathcrashcourse/home
Light & Salt Learning oh you have your own website wow I never knew you could make your own website can you teach us how the make our own website
your great
Do you have any video to add percentages?
Not yet. Give me an example problem and I'll hook you up :)
this helps me
I am so glad that you found it useful!
I go take my Math part for my GED in less than a week, which parts should I concentrate on studying?
Slope, points, and Graphing lines
Check out my playlists.
im in 3rd grade and my teacher says this is middle 4th grade and i want to learn it and its easy to under stand now
Yay! I'm so glad!
You are good at math
Wow im just in 4th grade and i'm not good at math your a very good teacher:)
Keep learning and practicing, Erlinda! You can do it!
I love you so much thank you very much
You're welcome 😊
i love it
Yay! So glad. Thank you for taking the time to drop a comment! It means so much to me.
How is she doing this.
Thanks man u de best
You're welcome!
im in forth grade but i under stande it now ty
No
Yay! What a great feeling, eh?
thanks
You're welcome!
I don’t get it whenever I try to do divsion let’s say 218 divided 4 and then I get an answer close to it like I got 216
Sounds like you are subtracting out your quotient! You might prefer another division method- partial quotient division. I don't have a video on this yet, but many wonderful CZcams teachers do. I'd check it out.
Never new divison till now im 21 going 2 get my ged
Good stuff
Thanks!
@@LightandSaltLearning could you do integers
I need you as my teacher
tysm :D
Thanks mam
You're welcome!
i get this now
britney oscar Yay!!!!
The first one you explained was the first one on my homework 🤣😁 he he
Hahaha! Score!
it is since
tq so much....madam lv u....
LOL I love the start
"Don't cry!" :P
where do you teach? I love to be your student
I teach at a college in northern Arizona. Nowhere near you? No worries. Send me a math question, and your problem might be the next video I make!
Im in Victorville CA. im going to try to get my GED I would like to know the best way to start i have been out of school for like 20 years... thanks
I would start with interpreting word problems. The GED test is not really an arithmetic test- in fact you have a calculator for most of it. It's a mathematical reasoning test. You have to be able to read a math scenario or situation and really understand it.
I wish you were my teacher 😭
What are you working on, Anna? Your GED? A math class?
Me tooo😭
Thanks so mach i love u b coz i am teacher
...tank you
what.thank.you.very.hard
this was 5 years ago like WOW .~.
I wish this math never exested no more:(
Word
I hope they make a cheat on this so it will be so so so so easy like 1,000,000,000 × 1
It =1,000,000,000
Try 796 divided by 6
1:53 or put a 0
Yes! Absolutely!
I wish you are my teacher
6 divided by 2 equals 3 2 x3 equals 6
True. I am assuming though that you are talking about the first problem? That wasn't 6 divided by 2. Rather it was 6 divided INTO 2 which is the same as 2 divided by 6. Two does not divided evenly into groups of 6. Order is very very important in division.
You can write
EASY
I like the videos
Thank you!
What about 10
I'm not sure what you mean.
ahh...i have a test tomarrow about long division so why would i cry -_- :(
Are u in hutto middle School
Ur method so beautiful
I widh this is a nad msth for us because this math is so hard that i when i get a test i will mybe get a F- or a D- i relly hate this math that they made
I’m nine in fourth grade and I don’t know how to do this So I cried IN FRONT OF MY MOM she did not know how to do it to she came from combodia
Vanessa Seng How can I help?
I steel don't get it I'm having depresion 😓😓😓
Don't stress. There's more than one way to do division. Why don't you check out "Partial Quotient Division". Many students like that better because you can just your 1, 5 and 10 times tables. I don't have a video on it yet but plenty of great math teachers do.
Thanks 😍
You are gorgeous and super cool! Two thumbs up for you! I love you! :)
Thanks, Daisy!
this is easier than my teacher
I hate when people say remainders. The leftover digits equate to decimals. It's point 1. It makes more sense to kids that way
I'm sorry that it bothers you but you are actually under a common misconception. A remainder cannot just be turned into a decimal like that. Remainder 1 DOES NOT mean just add a .1 to the end of the number. Depending on what you are dividing by, a remainder 1 could be a 0.5 or a 0.25 or even a 0.05. It depends on the divisor. There are three ways to deal with "leftovers" when we divide. The first is remainders. These are especially useful when performing conversions. The second way is to KEEP DIVIDING in order to figure out the decimal form of the number. Sometimes decimals end on their own (terminating decimals), and you get a good answer this way, but other times the decimal goes on forever, forcing you to round and lose accuracy. Another way to deal with a remainder is to turn it into a fraction, remainder over divisor, which is always accurate. GED students need to understand all three concepts because any of them could be called upon depending of the context of the problem they are working on.
Made a vid on this concept, Josh. Hope that helps you see that there's a time and place for remainders and that they cannot jest be dropped over as a decimal. czcams.com/video/a0eWsYJeW-8/video.html
Its easy
Yay!
