    I just want you to know I just got my results for all 4 of my GED tests and I passed. You are absolutely the reason! You were an amazing teacher through the journey! I am 27 and needed reminding of quite a lot. So many videos have thousands or millions of views, YOU are the one that deserves that!!! Thank you so much! Now I can go on with my future career!!! I will always be grateful for your help! I hope your channel continues to grow! 💚💚💚

    A lot of this GED math is life math I’m noticing so I’m starting to pick up on it easier and easier each day. Now I understand how doing division is like doing multiplication backwards. Was reading this book by Barbara Oakley and she was covering all sorts of ways people learn. Thankfully I in the age of information so I can just look it up and find it.

    • @LightandSaltLearning
      @LightandSaltLearning  Před 3 lety

      Glad you were feeling the good vibes, Rocky! Don't beat yourself up about forgetting long division. Because most students don't understand why long division works, they just "memorize the steps". When all you do is memorize, it's very easy to forget something, especially when you don't use it in your day to day life. Expert tip: focus on the "why" it works instead of the "how" and you're much more likely to remember the process going forwards. Happy learning!

    I would just love to have YOU as my child's teacher. You are AWESOME. I get so aggravated seeing all this "New Math" teaching kids "Big 7" division and all the other new-fangled methods that take equally long to teach, but aren't as fast and efficient when dealing with the full set of problems in the real world.

    • @LightandSaltLearning
      @LightandSaltLearning  Před 6 lety

      Thanks! The old-fashioned ways to do math are definitely tried and true for a reason. I would encourage you, however, to not give up on the "new math" entirely. Some of the algorithms allow for much easier mental math, allowing students in the end to actually perform operations much more quickly then they would on paper. It can just take awhile for students to develop those mental math exercises. Check out my "Sight Division" video for an example. It gives a short-cut for long division. Or "partial quotient division" makes it possible for students whose learning issues make memorizing the times tables difficult to still do complicated division problems. Sometimes one method is the easiest way, sometimes another. I say, the more tools our kids have, the better equipped they'll be!

      No. If you need a times tables chart on the GED, you'll have to create one yourself by counting by the number you need. The good news: you'll probably only have 1 problem where you need to multiply or divide by hand, so you won't need ALL your times tables, just the number you need to use.

      True. I am assuming though that you are talking about the first problem? That wasn't 6 divided by 2. Rather it was 6 divided INTO 2 which is the same as 2 divided by 6. Two does not divided evenly into groups of 6. Order is very very important in division.

    I hate when people say remainders. The leftover digits equate to decimals. It's point 1. It makes more sense to kids that way

    • @LightandSaltLearning
      @LightandSaltLearning  Před 5 lety

      I'm sorry that it bothers you but you are actually under a common misconception. A remainder cannot just be turned into a decimal like that. Remainder 1 DOES NOT mean just add a .1 to the end of the number. Depending on what you are dividing by, a remainder 1 could be a 0.5 or a 0.25 or even a 0.05. It depends on the divisor. There are three ways to deal with "leftovers" when we divide. The first is remainders. These are especially useful when performing conversions. The second way is to KEEP DIVIDING in order to figure out the decimal form of the number. Sometimes decimals end on their own (terminating decimals), and you get a good answer this way, but other times the decimal goes on forever, forcing you to round and lose accuracy. Another way to deal with a remainder is to turn it into a fraction, remainder over divisor, which is always accurate. GED students need to understand all three concepts because any of them could be called upon depending of the context of the problem they are working on.

    • @LightandSaltLearning
      @LightandSaltLearning  Před 5 lety

      Made a vid on this concept, Josh. Hope that helps you see that there's a time and place for remainders and that they cannot jest be dropped over as a decimal. czcams.com/video/a0eWsYJeW-8/video.html
