The Fine Art of Fish Prints
Vložit
- čas přidán 26. 07. 2024
- Before the days of photography, fishermen in Japan would immortalize their big catch with gyotaku, or fish prints. Today, Naoki Hayashi, is continuing the practice in Hawaii, keeping the ancient artform alive. He paints freshly caught fish with non-toxic paint, then presses them onto paper.

cape cod has a store like this and they use the prints on shirts... thought it was a really bizarre idea to be honest... but seeing this - I now know she didn't make the idea up!
Now I want to paint fish
I like this guys voice
I thought Jackie Chan quit acting and start printing fish
Beautiful art!
He's a fish aficionado, a gyotaku.
Weirdly enough, even though it's probably not that, it does make sense... gyo = fish, otaku everyone already knows. Provided that gyo is a pretty archaic, not used anymore word for fish (sakana)... nowadays people know more about the horrifying Junji Ito manga.
We did this in my elementary school
Waiting for 'Who else thought it was Jackie Chan ?' comments.

Me: Oh! Jackie Chan! Wow, seeing him doing fish printing would be impressive!
1 moment lateerr: Oh my gosh! His long lost twin!
It's reminded me about Doraemon comic when nobita father competition with suneo father about fishing
Best part after doing gyotaku, is you get to eat the i’a and make poke with it (raw fish).
I remembered that one episode of Doraemon seeing this. Nobita’s dad getting jealous of one of his friend fishing up a large fish and did the same process.
Is it just me or does he look like a Japanese Jackie Chan? He’s So positive
