I couldn't imagine parting with the 75 after such good work. Beautiful.
You are such a legend Matt bringing the older cars back to their former glory well done ,I’m enjoying your videos so much please carry on
I hope you have decided to keep the 75 such a lovely car always liked them
The 75 is a modern classic Matt, if you can justify it I'd be inclined to hang onto it. I hate it when well intentioned jobs end up with more work like the door card liner but we can't undo what is done, Ive done the same thing on more than one occasion and not just cars. Given the increasing value of the car it might be worth considering replacing the 'orrible' orange foam backing with some new stuff and maybe the card material as well. You have the original that could be used as a pattern to get someone who's really good with the old pinking sheers to make a new one or even a set for all the door cards but keep the original parts in a bundle for future patterns. The speed that the 75's disappeared from the roads is quite striking so saving one would be great. Many thanks for sharing.
Quite a few still to be seen parked up on estates.
Keep the 75. I think you'll regret it if you let it go. Definitely a future classic.
This has to be a keeper! The bezels around the internal door handles always break. Bloomin things!
I think you rotated the "clock spring" one full rotation to the right, this will eventually lead to a failure as the ribbon is now stretched on full right lock. The unit should have a window and a hole to show dead straight for installation.
Yeah he has turned it one rotation. Please Matt, take the wheel off and rotate it one to the left and refit.
Noticed that too
I noticed that too and thought no no that's not good
And it is a good idea to leave the loosened steering wheel nut on the column a few turns when you pull the wheel free - people who don't do this loose teeth and get a broken nose!🙂
You're so calm when doing hateful jobs! I would've thrown everything in the bin in a rage! Great work!
Exactly what I always say!
Fantastic new steering wheel. Love wood in cars. My Audi A4 has a wooden interior. Keep the Rover, you will not regret it.
The more I see of your 75, the more I like it. What a lovely, elegant car! By the way, you should try tinkering inside the door of an MG Midget. I attribute my grey hair to that little task.
This Rover 75 is becoming better every time it features on the channel
I really like the new steering wheel, well done with the door locking mechanism Matt, that’s another repair successfully carried out❤.
The darker wood steering wheel definitely looks better 👍🏻. I’ve just finished putting my whole dashboard back in the car after removing the entire thing from my 04 Rover 25. All to find a leak which was under the windscreen. All sealed up now though 👍🏻
Nice one Matt, but next time be more careful wotth the clock spring 😂
Nice work! Right when I saw you starting to mess with that door panel, I knew it was going to be trouble. I've done exactly that more than once. See if you can source the fabric, an upholstery guy should be able to do that job inexpensively and I think this car is worth the effort.
Lovely Jubbly video, it's because in your head your a perfectionist Matt, but in reality like me it doesn't always go your way.
Brake and clutch cleaner is a wonder! Amongst other things, I use it to clean oil patches off my block paved drive when a visitor’s vehicle drips oil.
Looking very good. Definitely a keeper. A beautiful car.
Love the new steering wheel! Where they also fitted with a wooden gear knob? Would be another great addition to the car. Nice fixes overall. 👍
I think it was an option, Ive not seen one for sale though
As an owner of two of these cars, when I glue the chrome ring back onto the door, I put a pencil down so that the inner handle pulls the chrome ring against the door and leave overnight to set.
I did that actuator without removing the regulator, sliced my arm, regulator displacement is mandatory IMO.
The steering now it matches the dash board very nice
Another good video Matt, the 75 is definitely a keeper in my view. Just a thought, do those steering wheel controls need coding to the car?
I've got to change the lock actuator on three doors on my ZT.... Looks like I'm in for a fun weekend.
good luck!
Well done Matt for doing this in the heat. That’s hard going. Personally I’d keep The 25 and move the other two Rovers on. I love what you do and your fleet. Keep it going.
Well done Matt. The material on the door card doesn’t look too bad on camera. Will be sorry to see it go. Would almost rather the 740 go. 😬 But if this ‘flipping’ thing is to be ongoing you can’t keep them all.
Ahhh... You've moved the rotary coupler (clock spring) .. Never do that.. It can snap the ribbon inside it on steering lock
I didnt move it, it moved itself the moment the wheel came off
That's what I thought, looked like it's currently one revolution out of centre.
I was watching thinking oh no you’re spinning it round with the duster.
You are one turn out
@@furiousdriving Did you check that the white marker in the window above bar code label was showing before fitting the wheel? It looks like you gave it half a turn clockwise with the cloth, and then another half turn clockwise when fitting the wheel.
You did not lock the clock spring, which is very dangerous. it could be too tight on left turn or too loose on right.
Matt, I was in the same boat with the doorcards on my BMW E36 318i. The foam disintegrates and the glue fails. Somebody has already mentioned the clock spring so you might want to recheck it.
same as headlining material.
The airbag plug means the clock spring can only fit one way, the yellow lead pulls it around as you fit the wheel
Ah, so glad to see you have the proper steering wheel. Twists my melon when people fit the light wood one in a dark wood car. 😂
When you just need somthing to watch, no shouty look at how much money I have videos. Another great vid mr furious
Good way to bugger/break the steering lock. Though I have no alternative to offer other than finding a mate who's a professional arm-wrestler to hang onto the wheel.
No, it's better. NOS for this fine a car is best.
12:07 "We're free!" [something white falls out]
Did I hear... chickens?
I'm betting an auto upholsterer would do the card (or maybe all four) fairly reasonably if you brought them in stripped already. I suspicion they would have better access to matching fabric than you could find (and the sorely needed padding behind it).
After that: sell it.
Excellent video and congratulations on your new video equipment, i would say the focus issue is gone ! 🙂
It's the same kit! who knows why its happy now
I always thought that this Rover were a very hansdsome car. My friends didn't, the motor journalist didn't, and I didn't care for once what others said. It's still a very handsome car, but it's a bit "fly in the soup" when it comes to durability! Anyways, If I were you; I'll keep it. Got to be a classic this in the future, if it's not already!
Good video Matt 👍 the 75 is in good nick will command a good price should you want to let it go
I've just bought a 75 with the same colour dash steering wheel looks good in that colour might have to do mine, and not looking forward to taking the door cards off watching this 😣
Firstly don’t sell it definitely underseal it and do you have to plug it in and tell the car to make the radio controls to work?
Its coming around nicely! Been there lock not a fun job
Matt...You have changed a light oak steering wheel for a walnut one !
Could have a steering wheel either side for trips to Europe 😅🤸😄🤸😄
My dad had a Rover 75 a few years ago my step mum loved it, but one day unknown to my step mum he had sold it and got a Volkswagen Golf and she absolutely hated it and has never forgiven him.
I really do think you should hang on to this one Mat. She’s an absolute peach
VAG products of the same era had similar issues with their door locks.
Matt, if I paid for your airfare, would you consider flying to Perth, Western Australia to do a review of my car? It's one of the last Ford Falcons, a 2013 FG mk2 G6E EcoLPI (LPG). No rush, I plan on keeping it forever. 😊
P.s. There are direct flights from London to Perth... but it's about a 17 hour flight. 😉
Id love to visit Australia but I suspect its quite an expensive flight
@@furiousdriving - Direct flight to Perth from London (return) with QANTAS is only about £1100 economy... £6000+ for 1st Class. 🙂
Wait for all the clock spring comments!
I keep a pot of tipex in my tool box for marking threads.
Looks great, Matt very classy
Great little tinkering video Matt, i do feel you may regret selling this now.
I would be very very hesitant to sell the rover 75. It is such a beautiful motor.
Are the only problems on the car the doorcard and the steering controls? If so - I hope they can be fixed somehow.
Learnt from experience that door card coverings even if leather are best left well alone. Any padding behind has always decomposed somewhat. Unless all is replaced then character with age is lost on anything not a concours restoration.
@furiousdriving funny my indicator stalk does exactly the same thing! it may be another common fault of the 75
maybe it is
Might the issue with the audio control be behind the stereo rather the wheel mounted controls?
after 3 steering wheels it might be
Such a beautiful car Matt why don’t you keep this one if you like it and move something else on from the fleet
Check your clock spring it looks like you turned it one full turn in the wrong direction before you put the wheel on and don't want that snapping
Despite all my best efforts, that black gloop gets everywhere. I’m still finding some on me and my clothes after taking the door card off my ZR earlier 😐
You’re mad if you sell that and I’m pretty certain you will be kicking yourself In the future if you did.
Keep it and enjoy it for what you paid / swapped for, it I highly doubt you would find another example as clean as that one.
Great tinkering video Rustman 🙂
Yes these steering wheeis come in handy on roundabouts😅
Great job Matt 👍
Nice job!
Dark wood definitely better Matt 👌🏻, just in case you didn’t notice 🤔 there was some guy in a white T Shirt lurking around the cars in vid 😂.
undercover DVLA
@@furiousdriving No Matt DVLA dress in black and are ninja 🥷 like and never lurk 😂.
Did you sort the not starting when warm issue?
Seems like the coil packs have solved it
Another good video Matt 🚗🚙🚘👏👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍
Hope you keep the R75 Matt
So the audio controls on the steering wheel don’t work? Drat, double drat and triple drat…time to trade it in!
Did the radio controls work on the old wheel?
no, or the original
Hi Matt, buy another 75 to match the steering wheel. Heart not head🤔
Did you find out why or how the water was getting into the boot?
I wonder how long a factory fitter would take to do the door lock
seconds, but it would be the first thing in the door
What a fab 75
Looks Much better.
⚠️That black goo on door cards is totally reusable.
Use a Stanley knife or wall paper scraper.
When I see torn door membrane I think to myself which bodge monkey has been in here then ?😅
6 threads showing is the default setting.
The top linkage unclips no need to disturb the plastic thread assembly !
No need to touch window regulator
You have made it better I think
I hope ya keep the 75
Would be nice to put a good full leather interior in it
I like the velour. I would only replace it if it was torn or in bad nick andI don’t think it is.
No it’s part of the story and character of the car.
No mods apart from adding deleted items, fixing classic faults and protecting the sills and underside.
Great video, Matt please do not use the steering lock when removing a steering wheel.
Car doors aaarrgh.. I had to fix the window regulator on our Peugeot 508 front driver's side .. what a bloody nightmare.. I managed it with much swearing and ranting.... Now the rear passenger side has broke...... I just can't face it 😂😂😂
👍👍
Matching steering wheel. Yes.
'There we go' count = (I lost count) 😁
That looks hard
Keep the 75 and sell me the 740 😊
Hang on to the Rover you’ll never find another one as good
keep it , deffinately
The stereo controls have stopped working on my steering wheel. :(
a Rover 75 thing
@@furiousdriving On the plus side I did repair the multi CD player so that's good.
I know on a Mondeo you can often get success spraying compressed air under buttons.😊
@@marklittler784 Maybe contact cleaner too? But as they have never worked with 3 steering wheels the problem probably lies elsewhere?
Interesting previous title (R75 door lock) (:
that was the file name of the MP4! Lucky it was only that...
@furiousdriving no I liked it, it's simple and straight to the point. (:
Have you seen the new crown vic
The rendering, sadly doesnt sound like its happening though
Yipee I'm 22nd today
😅🤸😄🤸😄🤸😄🤸😄
With that car and the Freelander Diesel sorted and reliable you could probably sell the big expensive Mercedes…
The Merc is ULEZ, this is too but only a saloon so not always ideal for work
Is that a spitfire buzzing you ? 😅
the 11 oclock Spitfire, we see it every day!
remember they can get hot in the sun
SELL IT ,im sure then youll give just one out of a handful or two of your neighbors a chance to park outside their home,,and not miles away down the road ,,🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
👍🏴
Keep the 75.
Never say it's a easy job on a car
Pozi not a Philips.
Yes keep that Rover 75 probably now one of the best left but please get rid of that gas guzzling US police car
Sell it! And keep the R8 estate instead.
Keep it and sell the Grand Vic
Leave the nut on one turn otherwise it will smack you in the mouth!
