Yea, we still talk about it from time to time. On my end, it was just difficult to manage a channel with someone else while focusing on my own channels. Logistics started to become overwhelming for myself

First rule of travelling. Never let anyone keep your passport. Ive been living in Vietnam for ten years and have been to Cambodia numerous times. You can give them cash instead of your passport. It's usually less cash than you would expect.

Thought so too but my friend I was with that was living there said that the shop was legit and that it was fine, so I trusted him. Otherwise they wanted $2500 up front. I have to renew my passport next month anyway so wouldn't have been much of a deal. Wasn't some little corner spot with like 4 bikes. It was a full-on garage so I wasn't too worried.
Edit: Shoutout Victory Motorsports if you're ever in town, they're the real deal and everything was seamless. Told them I'd have the bike for like a week, ended up with it for a month and they didn't even hassle me. The bike was $10/day and had no issues with it
Usually, you never want to give it away because they can hold it against you until you pay for "damages" that they make up. For example, there's a spot in Dubai that rents Jet skis and are notorious for making up fake damages and hold your passport as hostage.
@ericed1084 is right, you always want to keep your passport and never have it on you when you're out and about (even though some people might tell you otherwise - saying it's illegal to not have it on you) Only reason I did it this time (the only time I ever did during the past 10 years) Was because the guy I was with, who lived there, said the shop was legit and that it was ok, so I trusted him. He's rented from there a few times already.
Sometimes you can break the rules if you know them. 99% of the time, follow this rule and only break it if you have unwavering trust
