You will never go hungry on your 20 acres homestead - great choice.
Less is more! So you don’t need that big of a place when you think of it.
Just Look at your great camper!
But building two in one has big advantages.... house on top & shop at ground level below.
    One roof
    One foundation
    One heating system... etc.
One thing I would highly recommend is a metal roof using 16” wide panels with all hidden screws = no leaks
& metal siding giving you very low maintenance, long life, & big on fire protection.
Building a rocket stove with lots of thermal mass to radiate your stove pipes thru.
    Congrats.

Excellent advice, keep it coming! There are certainly a ton of perks to building an apartment/shop in one. And at this point in our lives a small apartment is all we need!

I’ve seen all your videos! Binge! And fell asleep late at night while watching… and went and viewed them all over again! Creativity is the mother of invention! You both have it. One suggestion, get a Hard Hat! You are both in jeopardy of a head injury hits all the tree cutting, roofing, and such. I’m glad safety glasses are being worn, and that safety harness on the roof was a must. I enjoy watching your videos and look forward to more. Good luck!

I subbed a little after you bought your new property so I'm just going back through the earlier videos. I loved the Kwanzaa house. It has "survivalist" written all over that but it also looks like you could just buy more pieces and extend it in all directions. I think building with those segments would be quite fun, and possibly quick.
But you ended up with a better location I think, especially now the road's done.

there is plenty of video's on CZcams to build a power system and dig a well by hand. you have your dodge for a safe place to sleep/live until you get a building closed in, or you can drop shipping containers for living spaces just like you did some time ago.

You could always buy a property with a big hill, put in a winch system for getting stuff to a building site at the top, then use the winch as a tow line - tow to the house, ski down to parking... 🤔😃

This one is a tough one for me. I have a 110 year old house on a town lot in N. Idaho that I bought for a job but haven't lived in full time for over 10 years. Not my forever home by a long shot.
I want to sell it and pick up some acreage but I don't have the slightest idea how I will ever be able to pull off buying land and building on a single income (no local jobs for me in the area) the way land prices have gone in N. Idaho and NW Montana. It has honestly turned into a huge anxiety/depression trigger for me. What is really stupid is that I have almost everything I need to start a nice homestead except a good piece of land and a house/shop.

While testing all the options hands down the Kubota was the smoothest to operate with the sticks. Once I'm ready for a replacement might go for the Yanmar. Hands down it always comes down to dealer support in ones area. The skid steer will be the next purchase with a bucket and forks. Then you both could have a his and hers! 😉
While your there can you grab me one of the all new SCL1000 Please, Thank you....🤗

We might have too much rock for that, but is certainly something to look into! The lot has full southern exposure so is also a great candidate for solar.

Last year I bought 25 acres and the property buying experience is fun.
With the cost to build through the roof, I've squashed my plans to build right now.
Though I've considered maybe putting a couple Airbnb geodomes on the land.
I would seriously look into very specific details about an easement.
Personally, I would avoid them if at all possible.

It is so important to be able to access your property, otherwise it is worthless!
Airbnb income is such a great option for land otherwise not being used!

@@AmbitionStrikes Yeah when I looked into doing a shop basically off grid because I didn't want to pay to have a larger transformer and such installed a diesel military generator would be much cheaper and it had 3 phase to run my mill and such off of to which is awesome and save some money on phase converters.

Came across your channel via the camper build. actually the other stuff is also very interesting as well.
Would you like to tell me why you choose Idaho?
I am living in Germany, whatever you think is "crowded" is probably landscape from my perspective 😉 2 "acres is too small". in cologne Germany you spend for 1 acres ~ 1.5 mio € (=2mio$) in the upper class area though. But of course that varies much off grid.
In which ballpark is the land you are looking for? If course you don't need to tell what YOU spend. But just to give me an idea.
Is it allowed to build a building on any land you own? Here is not! how, how big, high etc is given you by local government.
