  • Today on my travels we came across the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist in Badingham. This beautiful church dates back to the 13th century and is now sadly in need of urgent repair but we were able to enter the Chancel (space around the alter) that is safe to enter at the moment. It was here that we discover the tomb of William Cotton Dated 1616 and an old Pipe Organ from around the year 1800. The Pipe Organ works and sounds amazing.

    I fired up the little tablet and immediately saw that Terry had posted a new video featuring an old church pipe organ. Without doubt, watching and listening to Terry was the first order of business. I hope he never runs out of churches and old pipe organs. Many thanks to the churches that have allowed Terry to enter and play.

THOROUGHLY enjoyable mate, you did a FANTASTIC job and I sincerely hope you are very proud of the finished product. You should be!! I bet you had a lot of fun making it too just as much as I did listening. Any possible future idea of maybe releasing an Analogue Corner one? :-) That too would be brilliant! Hope to catch you all on Sunday for the Sunday Service. Love your channel Terry and you are a superb musician.

      Every chance Chris. Crispin could carry a few synths as well as Rex down to the studio I'm sure. Biggest problem would be deciding which tracks to omit! Funky Town, Hot Love, Take on Me, Enola Gay, Time is Tight would all be essential with many more contenders to consider. A double album perhaps! See you on Sunday in the pews. ATB

    Terry it’s St Crispin,s day today
    25th October 1415 upon St Crispin's day (Who had been martyr'd on this day in 286 by the Emperor Diocletian who would also execute St George) an English army of 8,000 under the command of King Henry V faced a French Army at least twice as large and possibly 3 times across the field of Agincourt.
    Henry had been trying to reach Calais when on the 24th of October he had been informed that the French had got a head of him and cut of his line of march to the port. A Welsh man-at-arms, David Gambe, on being questioned by King Henry as to the size of the French army, said “There are enough to kill, enough to capture and enough to run away.” The night was not an easy one in the English camp with the knowledge of the vast French Army before them and rain storms did not help.
    In the morning, 25th October 1415, the feast of St Crispin and public holiday in England, the English army marched out of Maisoncelles, taking up position across the road to Calais in three divisions of knights and men-at-arms; commanded by Lord Camoys on the right, the Duke of York in the centre and Sir Thomas Erpingham on the left. The Archers formed wedged divisions along the front.
    Further down the road the French army was forming for battle. The Constable of France led the first French line. The Dukes of Bar and d’Alençon led the second and the Counts of Merle and Falconberg led the third.
    Henry had placed his army between 2 forests that protected his flanks and which he hoped would funnel the French towards his army and negate their numerical advantage.
    The English soldiers knelt down before the battle commenced and kissed the ground as a symbol that they might be returning to the earth before the day was over.
    The French would not advance however and Henry was finally forced to advance his meagre force towards the French. When he reached Bow shot range he halted the army and redeployed. Being on an even narrower frontage now Henry sent men into the forests to close on the French and harry them into attacking. He also unleashed his bowmen to devastating effect and the French finally charged.
    The narrowing frontage condensed the French force into a compact mass that the English archers could not miss. An English Longbow man could fire steadily 6 a minute and so a force of nearly 7000 could put 42,000 arrows on the French in a minute. The charge quickly reduced to a stumbling walk, impeded by the floundering men and horses shot down by the archers, the arrow storm from the front as well at that from the English concealed in the woods on the flanks.
    The battle raged along the English line, the archers abandoning their bows and joining the knights and men-at-arms in hand to hand combat with the French cavalry, who were mainly now dismounted, the soldiers from the woods attacking on the flanks.
    Within two hours of the battle beginning it was clear that the English had won. While individual French soldiers fought hard, it was from desperation as the English knights, men-at-arms and archers overwhelmed the struggling mass, taking as prisoner those who might be worth a ransom and killing the rest.
    The Duke D’Alençon bringing up his division to assist the first line was overcome and about to surrender to Henry himself when he was struck dead. The Constable of France, Charles D’Albret, was killed with numbers of other prominent French nobles, the Dukes d’Orleans and de Brabant among them. On the English side the Duke of York died, trampled into the mud, while Henry himself defended his wounded brother, the Duke of Gloucester, against a mob of Frenchmen.
    With the battle now over and the French army streaming away a small force of French knights having passed to the rear of the English line attacked the English baggage. Henry uncertain of French numbers decided he needed his entire force to face this new threat and so ordered that all prisoners be killed. This order was carried out with the threat of hanging for those who disobeyed. When the attack to the baggage was driven off Henry rescinded his order but not before many of the French captives had been killed.
    It has been a matter of contention for many years how many were killed at Agincourt on either side Shakespeare's play indicates under 50 English and thousands of French. The more accepted figures is between 500-600 English dead a significant number from a force of 8,500 with French loses being placed at 8000.
    The French suffered heavily. Three dukes, at least eight counts, a viscount, and an archbishop died, along with numerous other nobles. Of the great royal office holders, France lost her Constable, Admiral, Master of the Crossbowmen and prévôt of the marshals. The baillis of nine major northern towns were killed, often along with their sons, relatives and supporters.
    In the words of Juliet Barker, the battle "cut a great swath through the natural leaders of French society in Artois, Ponthieu, Normandy, Picardy."
    The Battle is immortalized in the play by Shakespeare Henry V, in Act IV Scene iii with the famous pre battle speech attributed to Henry the last part being
    Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
    And say "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."
    Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
    But he'll remember, with advantages,
    What feats he did that day. Then shall our names, familiar in his mouth as household words- Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
    Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
    Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
    This story shall the good man teach his son;
    And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
    From this day to the ending of the world,
    But we in it shall be rememberèd-
    We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
    For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
    Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
    This day shall gentle his condition;
    And gentlemen in England now a-bed
    Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
    That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

    You surely know how to treat those keys, both on piano and organ.
    Your rocking up Amazing Grace is great but..... there are surely more and well known tunes You could attack in order to expand the entertainment. Not being British "Aould lang syne" pops up...... There are plenty I guess.
    Take a look into book of corals, church hymns.... I used to play with them.
