The type you get on your genitals is Type 2 (HSV-2), which is transmitted sexually, and has much more severe symptombs, and it can be passed to your children when you are a pregnant woman.
Charging someone who (through neglect) gave you Type 1 makes no sense (again, most adults have it, its basically harmless), but giving someone Type 2, either through neglect or intent, IS illegal, because it is actively harmful.

I’m gonna say the truth as someone who has HSV1 and I don’t even know from where I got it. I was a teenager, and I wasn’t sexually active at the time. I do remember kissing 2 girls around that time and I shared a drink with another at the movie theater.
No one told me they had it. It’s possible that they might not have known they had it either. I got sick really bad and my mom had to take me to an emergency room. It began with a split in my lip and it turned into a white sore with a really bad fever. I had cold sweats and it was to this day, the worst experience I’ve ever had. I looked up the symptoms I was feeling and herpes was what I assumed.
I told my mom and she didn’t believe me, so when she took me to get tested I got scolded and treated like I was a disgusting pos. I was given a single spoon with my name written on it and I wasn’t allowed to use any of the other utensils.
I called one of the girls that I kissed and asked her if she had it because I don’t know where I got it from and it offended her that I asked so she stopped talking to me.
The staff at the clinic informed my mom that it could’ve been “hereditary” as in most cases.
The truth is that over half of the population now has herpes. I think around the time I got it, it was 1 in 4 people.
Since my initial outbreak, after treatment, I’ve never had another outbreak.
They must’ve only done it for about a couple months or so but my family no longer gatekeeps the eating utensils.
I’ve been open about it in relationships, and I guess I know how to pick them because they were mature about it and have allowed me to educate them on the topic, and I appreciate that they were able to trust my word, considering I am the one that had to learn everything I could about it to cope and learn how to live with it.
That being said, I know most people will react very immature, skeptical, ignorant and combative like many in this comment section and some members on this panel.
They hear STI and everything is equated to HIV or that you must’ve not taken any measures into having safe sex or that you’re just a disgusting person. The stigma is there.
It feels so annoying having the burden of educating people that I can understand why it’s better to live not even saying anything.

Dude it’s not just porn. I’ve heard different estimates for when they really actually did extensive testing in populations it’s more like 80-90% of sexually active adults. It’s just really mild for most people and in between outbreaks he really can’t tell or are completely asymptomatic. Try asking for herpes test if you don’t have an active infection, your doctor probably won’t try to give it to you. I’ve asked on multiple occasions when I’m going in for a panel and basically I’ve had two different doctors outright say they don’t test for that if there are the symptoms and that it’s probably more common than people realize. I’ve heard people theorize that they’re not doing widespread asymptomatic, testing for fear of mass panic if people realize how prevalent it actually was. I don’t believe in all conspiracy theories but I believe at least a couple of them probably have to be true given that there’s millions of them out there. This might be one…

But if the partner doesn't advise you before the sexual interaction. Then, in most states, it's considered assault/battery (some states call it assault. It's the part that you knowing passed it. Most Cureable or Uncureable sti weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to catching other diseases. This means that common illnesses are much more difficult to fight off by someone with a weak immune system. which, in terms, lowers their life expectancy.

I had a date a few months ago and I really enjoyed my time with him. He did tell me he had herpes during our first date. I really did appreciate him for that. Although I did feel sad later on rejecting him for this reason, we have became close friends. I really did appreciate his honesty and think highly of him for that. We are close friends now and continue to hang out at times :) .
That's great that you became friends. I had a chance with a girl but she told me upfront that she had herpes and I really appreciated the honesty, but I felt it wasn't worth the risk, even with current medication. We might have passed on our soul mates in exchange for it lol
