Love my gas mowers, but man I cannot tell you enough how awesome it feels to cut down tall weeds with a sharp scythe. Strenuous work and yet just as satisfying.
Proof that scythes are superior: You get a nice swooshing sound instead of deafening motor noise, You get a wider cutting range unlike mower where you run around 4 times the length, You get a good workout and become stronger and fitter, You can reap souls, You can strike fear into the hearts of your enemies.
The last 2 could be the first 2... you sold me right there. My neighbors are going to notice "something eerily different" when I am mowing the yard very soon. Seriously ... best comment ever !!!
18hp mower ... go make 2600 square meter with a scinth .. and the fact that grass is loaded and ready to be dumped near my compost where i will add 1/2 of wood ships is bonus compost.. (and i still have to move around that 5 cubis meter + 2.5 cubic meter of woodchip each 2 day to make a proper berkley compost... )
Bro the mower is not more effort and cuts the grass a lot cleaner, and you can do more becuase you won’t get tired as quick. And not a hassle to maintain just gotta fill it up with gas and check oil and if you do those things your more likely to break down before it. Also with the scythe the sharpening of it takes longer than doing those two things. Yes more expensive to run but at least it won’t take you all day to mow and can work on making that money back.
@@lil_curious61 Scythes cut the grass far cleaner. A really fast dull, fat and nicked blade vs a precise Razor blade? Everything else you said is true, except that part.
Also when the job is done, how hard is the endeavor back to the barn. Scythe 6.5 to 15 lbs depending on if its modern or vintage. Mower out of gas now that the job is done at the least 85lbs. Scythe
Hard to determine "which is the best", because it is all VERY dependent on the job...including size of the job, and time available FOR the job. For a tiny yard, or small walkway, the lawnmower would be too much hassle, as well as the cost. But if you're having to cut 1/2 acre or more....then you can't beat the convenience of a lawnmower. After working a full week, instead of spending all day cutting the grass and wearing yourself out even more physically after the work week, you can spend a couple of hours, and half the effort pushing a lawnmower around for the same job. But, even if you were to consider the time difference being negligible, for a decent sized mowing, doing the exact same job in the exact same time frame, but with half the physical effort of a scythe, at the cost of a few bucks of gasoline.....convenience wise it'd just be hard to beat the lawnmower. Not knocking the scythe. It's efficient at what it does. But after doing a week of manual labor at work, coming home for the weekend, or usually the one day off during the week I get, the last thing I want to do is take on extra labor when I don't have to lol. Again, it's all up to the individual job! That said, I wouldn't judge this as a fair comparison of a scythe vs a lawnmower for a small area. The scythe for that small area, wasn't able to maximize it's swath versus the mower. You could almost double the size of mowing patch, and the lawnmower would have twice as many trips, while the scythe would still be able to handle it in one swath of it's swing.
Both - a lawn mower as well as a scythe are usefull. But the biggest difference is this: If you scythe, at least from time to time, you are gonna become fit at no cost, and you will do a little bit for the environment too.
@@skiandscytheguy If everybody in the world cared about the environment it would only have a 5 to 10% impact! Because it’s with the top one to 5 percent of those that run the world do that is 90 to 98% of the impact!!
If the grass rows had been about 50 centimeter broader then the lawnmower would have had to go two more times, and then the scythe would have won because 50 centimeter more would not make that much of a difference for him in work effort.

@@skiandscytheguy Isn't that one of the problems with scythe mowing? It's tedious so they don't want to do it as often and end up letting their lawns go for many weeks until it's like 8" to 10". People with mowers don't do that so this race was incorrect to begin with. His lawn patch should have been about 3 1/2" to 4" tall which is typical for most people and then they cut it back to 2 1/2" or 3". The mower would have done even better at that point.
