    yet another really old estate to explore.. built around 1964 or 65..
    this hawker and her sister at havelock just a stones throw away are the nearest hawkers to the famous Tiong Bahru market. it's hidden among old hdb flats and is at the foot of Bukit Ho Swee where kampongs used to be.

    It is amazing that more and more restaurant/hotel chefs have now turned hawkers, wonder what is the reason. Hawker's life is not easy, it is also hard work and with no health benefits, unlike working for a corporation. However, to our benefit, we can enjoy watching these chefs making their signature dishes, love the way he makes the fried rice, so masterful and delicious. Always love Kueh Tutu, it is still one of my favorite kuehs. Love Malay food too and ironically, I have been making vegetarian lontong myself for the past few weeks... ha! ha! A good variety of hawker favorites here...👍😊

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  Před 2 lety +1

      Maybe sometimes it’s hard to swallow when you know what you’re paid while serving up hundreds of plates that costs $21 each.. many took the risk of coming out on their own.. but doesn’t fully realise the risks they have to take. Rent. Hours. Client pool. Unforseen covid closures. Plus these chefs are used to using more premium ingredients which forces them to require a premium price to their products. Luckily many managed to survive.
      I thought all lontongs are vegetarian 😅

    Piggypuggy, it is great to see u recce one of the oldest FC in Spore. Some of my friends swear by the Hainanese Curry Rice at the coffeeshop while my personal favourite is still at Tiong Bahru shophouse and Scissors Cut at Kitchener. The Teochew Food Porridge and Teochew Restaurants along the shophouses are one of the favourites among many Singaporeans. As for the Food Centre, I am also as Sotong as you. Pass by many times but never tried anything. The green and red bean biscuits look good and the Hokkien traditional snacks reminds me much of my childhood too. Your dogs are cute and they seems to be as adventurous as you when it comes to food. Hahaha....

      Singapore may eventually have the same concept as HK.. the govt holds on to loads of prime land for future release of leasehold and redevelopment at unimaginable premium. Nation will always have excess then. Heritage seems to weigh much lesser than economic value

    The fried rice hawker was amazing, so skillful in how he tossed the fried rice. It was acrobatic and beautiful. One of the best looking plates of fried rice I've seen. Din Tai Fung is overrated and overpriced. A plate of shrimp fried rice there costs S$20.50, three times more expensive than this humble stall, which deserves a Michelin star 👍⭐
