To the 2 minute rule, I've added an idea.. do what you can EVEN IF you only have 2 minutes.. I used to have this "all or nothing" mentality and it was hurting me since I have a debilitating health condition and the frustration was paralizing. So, I realized I can do things little by little.. if I only have 2 minutes, then I do what I can even if I don't finish the task (fonding laundry, washing dishes, tidying up a room.. ). The trick is to make use of every opportunity I have and to work withing my energy levels. It became almost a game I have with mself now of how much I can tackle in such little time. Eventually the amount of work left is manageable enough that I can actually take more time to finish it. Now that I took the pressure off my shoulders it seems like I accomplish so much more.
Little and often fills the cup, I remind myself.
I like your conclusion that eventually it gets down to a manageable job to finish.
I do this too. For me it's 15 / 20 minutes at a time. Otherwise I get too tired!! By the end of the day I've done an hour and a half or 2 hours worth of housework and it does make a difference!!❤
This is literally the flylady routines and yes this works once you get into the daily routines.
As an older person, if you see a piece of clothing that you really like and it fits, buy it. Stores no longer stock large inventories like they did 10 years ago. They always churning in new items. It won’t be there next week. Buy it.
kids - start them early making things. I started handsewing when I was 6, I made my own dress-up clothes and it was the most empowering and creative thing . I totally believe that actually making things (not just playing with things other people have made) is the most empowering thing for children (or in fact everyone).
I love using the wish list, that helps curb my shopping impulse better than anything else!
Yes! I've always likened the cleanliness and tidyness of my home to the broken windows theory.
Such an interesting theory, isn’t it. Thank you for watching!
I think knowing the home for items is key - one reason clutter accumulates is people don't know where things belong. I find this is true for our home. It's become a lot less messy day-to-day because everything has a clearly identified home. I do the same trick you do with food shopping and meal planning - it's been eye opening how much random food I used to purchase. I'm ashamed to admit since implementing this new system over a year ago, we are still working through our chest freezer and cupboards.
So so true 💛
You motivated me to go through my stuff and even tho I’m completely overwhelmed and in the thick of decluttering, I do see a light at the end of the tunnel ❤
You can do this, Rachel 👏
I love the practicality of the 5/7 rule. Very helpful.
Thank you, Wendy!
Wonderful video! You've said all the important things!great the example with the windows
I found your channel a few days back and totally enjoying your minimalism videos. Can you please link your couch? It looks great. Please never stop making videos. Would love to see a Q&A video to know a little more about you.
Ive been in this space for a few years and there were concepts in this video that I’d never heard of! Great video!
Glad it was helpful! 💛
This kind of people help me to keep balance, but definitely this kind of people never lived through shortages time. I did. When every extra box of pasta was a treasure. Think twice if you need extra food, or not specifically now when we could be in situation of war, or just any unrest.
Im a 35 year old mom of 4. I need to get rid of clothes that make me look 21😅. Your accent is beautiful!
Same here lol
Very practical. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your clean and clutter free home.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video 😊
Thank you. Lots of practical advice.
Thanks for watching! 💛
I just discovered you. You are amazing. I love your content and style. I really love the 5/7 rule. My kitchen is already following that. But, my bathroom is not. I’m going to get in there today. Thanks for the inspiration.
The wish list is so genius, thanks for making this video!
Yay, glad it’s been helpful 💛
Hello I stumbled upon your channel and you have motivated me to go on a decluttering spree in my home. It feels so good. Please could you do more DITL vlogs and how you maintain a decluttered home? Thank you xx
Amazing job 👏 Definitely will do more vlogs and maintenance videos 💛
The best blogger ever. Every video of yours is inspiring and applicable to this crazy process called life. Thank you for posting. :)
Wow that’s so kind of you. Thank you so much 🤗
Just discovered you now and your video is excellent! Very pragmatic and realistic.Thx a lot
First time watching your video came up as recommended, what a beautiful home.
Thank you, Deb!
I do the wish list thing for myself, although I never called it that. If I see something I like online, I’ll screenshot it, and then go back to it later and see if I still want it. It really helps with impulse buying.
It’s such a simple yet effective trick, isn’t it 💛
Wonderful video ❤ Letting go is so powerful 🥰 Thank you for sharing your wisdom 😊
So true! Thank you for watching!
i love this
I love your style of home design. So many beautiful choices for a clean and minimal, but, cozy space. I love the silver floor lamp. It’s like jewelry for the living room. Such a nice finishing touch.
Just found you today and appreciated the style of content in this video. So articulate and easy to follow. SO, I did! New subscriber here! Rita, from Missouri US.
Thank you for your kind words, Rita 🤗
Same here! Just found you today in North Carolina and subscribed ❤
Great video thanks I just went through a drawer half way through the video…. It gave me some motivation
Amazing, thank you for watching, Lauren 💛
Great advice
This is indeed very heartwarming and very wonderful and very helpful and the house is so beautiful and this brings back such great memories of when I use to be a 90s kid and an early 2000s kid and I am a new subscriber as well:).
Thank you kindly!
Best simple video I've seen with easy to implement strategies (5/7!). p.s. Love your white sweaters with bobbles!
Thank you for watching!
I actually just moved the spatulas off the counter and into a drawer. I only use 1-2 spatulas daily, what's the point of having a dozen spatulas on display in a utensil jar?
Amazing that you found what works for you 👏💛
Thank you for sharing🙏
Thank you for watching!
One of the best things I have is a journal notebook called Throw It Away by Guru Notebooks. Helps me out a lot.
That sounds cool!
hey i am digging your hook, heheheehheehe :) and that 5/7 rule is great, thank you for this helpful video!!!
Haha, thank you. Glad to have a fellow minimalist CZcamsr here 🤗
I've downloaded this to my library for my mom
Thank you for watching!
I have the same dining table as you and I’d love to know how you keep it clean! 😊 We’ve covered ours with a tablecloth because it got stained so much with oil as the children are messy!! But it’s such a beautiful table!
Where did you get the dining table from?
We use a tablecloth if kids are doing messy artwork and placemats when eating. I simply take the cloth off when we’re finished 💛
It’s from Dunelm 💛
@@madelinevlogs Thankyou for replying! I love your videos ❤️❤️ . My children are always doing messy artwork 😂, they are 5 and 10 so they’re doing their own thing at the table a lot. But also food seems to stain so easily and again - both messy!
@@krishnadesai2553 I got mine from one of those online apps (wayfair?) but they were also selling them at John Lewis (for much more). I think it’s called Milano??? I got mine a few years back, it is so beautiful xx
I Like 5/7 rule!
So glad it’s helpful 🤗
Yes. I do one load of laundry every day
I JUST made the same video 😂 great minds think alike . About to watch this now so it’s be interesting to see if we have some of the same tips ❤
I just stumbled on this video and just wanted to say Madeline, please be careful with showing your address on these videos! :((
I'll tell you a secret. It's a fake label I created, my address is not on there 😊
@@madelinevlogs omg thank goodness!!!! I’m so happy to hear that and you are very smart 🤣 definitely got me scared there
You making sure everyone knows about it doesn’t help.
@@kathyorourke9273 I tend to speak up when I see someone could be doing something that may put them in a compromising position. I know not everyone is like this. To be clear though, it has been established that it’s a fake label, an idea that may help other creators in the future if they struggle with it. The result of this is that she’s safe and a great idea has been shared, so this reply was unneeded in my opinion. Since you shared it though, there’s my 2 cents.
Nice 👌🏼
I find it so hard to keep our kitchen table clutterfree. It is always covered with stuff that has no place to go :(
Love your videos ❤ Thank you. I want to move my air fryer from kitchen top. Where can I put it?
Once I had cleared my cupboard and drawers out I was able to make a space in a single cupboard for it. I only have my kettle and microwave on the countertop now. X
I have the same problem mine is huge
Absolutely, once you declutter more, it’s likely you’ll have more space in your cupboards. And you might find a spot for it in there 💛
I order things online so I will have boxes to put declutter items in. I think I'm not doing this correctly. 🤔😝
🤣
This made me lol, Angie 😂
Hi Madeline. I need your advice. What must I do with old CD albums? I used to collect alot both western songs and asian songs. Is it better to throw them away or to sell? But I was wondering who would buy old CDs. What do you think? Thank you
Very useful video! And you are really sweet! But what about us working mums? Any piece of advice to avoid chaos?
Decluttering and setting up these small systems will help too! 💛
I like the idea of a wishlist for your son, it seems to me that it can teach him not to make emotional purchases
I think it’s a great tool to use with them 💛
Funny video 🤗 I love to watch content like this 👍
Thank you so much!
❤
🔥🌿👍🏽👍
New sub 😊👍
Welcome, Veronica 💛
maybe less b-roll, since we are here to simplify our lives, I for one prefer a calmer video experience which for me is less (or even no) b-roll footage.
Hello! I'm new here and I wish the audio would be better ) SOunds like from the box. Guess it's worth saying to improve your content)
Genuine question, I don’t mean to criticize you: doesn’t making laundry every single day lead to consuming an enormous amount of water?
I’m not sure about all machines, but my front loader actually weighs the load of clothes and adjusts the water level to that.
The broken window theory was debunked 😮
Your videos are good but please stop saying “actually” constantly. It’s incredibly irritating and not necessary.
Actually, this comment is incredibly irritating and unnecessary. 🙃
I would rather hear the word 'actually' than the over used word 'like' all the time. Yes I am an oldie.
To criticize someone's way of speech is extremely immature. This video is informative and enjoyable
I just discovered you. You are amazing. I love your content and style. I really love the 5/7 rule. My kitchen is already following that. But, my bathroom is not. I’m going to get in there today. Thanks for the inspiration.
Amazing! Thank you for watching 🤗
