Neil Young and Crazy Horse have just released a new album under the name Molina, Talbot, Lofgren & Young, and the album is called “All Roads Lead Home”. So, the question is, is this a new Neil Young and Crazy Horse album? Let me first read the description found on the Warner Records website.
“Three dear, old friends and bandmates for over 50 years, Ralph Molina, Billy Talbot and Nils Lofgren, kept writing and recording songs in their homes during the ongoing pandemic and are proud to share this collection of their music. Their lifelong friend and bandmate Neil Young, added a special track to complete this 10 song compilation. For friends with deep bonds, though at times on different paths, they found that, All Roads Lead Home.”
So the answer is no, there is just one Neil Young song, a song that was on his Barn album, called “Song of the Seasons”, and the rest are songs by the other members Billy Talbot, Nils Lofgren and Ralph Molina, each having 3 songs each, making it a total of 10 songs adding Neils song.
Billy Talbot has three songs, “rain” a relaxing country themed acoustic rock song, “Cherish” a typical rock song similar to something you would hear on a Neil Young and Crazy Horse album but with Billy on vocals and “the hunter” more of an emotional song that was very laid back and relaxing.
Nils Lofgren had three songs with “You will never know” a country rock song that was a little bit more upbeat with slide guitar “Fill my cup” a foot stomping rock song with a driving beat, this one actually reminded me of a classic Beatles song and “go with me” more of a country or southern rock type of song reminiscent of something from Neil Young's earlier works.
Ralph Molina had three songs “it's magical” was a laid-back classic rock song with some melodic lead guitar playing, “look through the eyes of your heart” sounded like a typical Neil Young and Crazy Horse song with electric guitars and the grungier sound and “just for you” was a soft jazzy piano ballad with a saxophone solo.
I think the one Neil Young song was kind of unnecessary. I think it might be a re-recording of the one he did on Barn, but I imagine this was just part of the marketing of the album, where they wanted to present it as a Neil Young and Crazy Horse album, but the truth is it's a combination of solo recordings from members of Crazy Horse, but it's not a bad thing. On my first listen, I thought it was kind of boring but after the second listen I enjoyed it a little more. There's a lot of variety on the album, some songs are more upbeat, other ones are more relaxed and acoustic so I thought it was a decent album. I'll give this album a 7.5 out of 10. It is kind of a deception how it is presented, but as an album I think it's enjoyable. Let me know what you think. Please give this video I like as it helps me with the algorithm and I'll see you in the next one.
