Takedowns means nothing in the UFC score criteria, and let's be honest DDP had no control on the ground, Strickland got back up immediately every time. Leg kicks you can make an argument but most of them were checked. I had the same scorecard as you for the main, I had dricus 3-1 and at worst 2-2 going into the fifth. Dricus really surprised me, again, with his cardio and even his wrestling, despite not being able to keep sean down his shots were very good.
Love that you gave Magny his flowers, he’s an important part of the UFC he is not an easy night out for anyone and really shows the levels between a good fighter and a top 10 fighters. He should get Michael Morales next
you have to remember Sean is a very popular fighter. Judging is subjective so of course most of them will claim robbery for their guy. So this stuff doesn't surprise me anymore haha
Its not a robbery man but I know a lot of people who know how to score fights that think Sean won( who don't even like Sean).. I have watched it twice and I kind of agree, it was close but if I was DDP I would want the rematch to prove to the world how good i was. Personally I am now really confused how to score these fights, every week the analysis moves the goal posts and emphasizes a different aspect of the fight that justifies the winner (sometimes, sometimes its consistent but usually for un-ranked fights ). Its even more confusing that Dana said exactly what I thought: 2 to 2 going into the 5 and Sean won the 5. (by a thin margin) . How are people justifying DDP's face after the match also the guy had trouble walking out of the ring? Is weird because I am not saying DDP is bad and not the best possible contender right now but I am very confused on this scoring shit.

There we go a master and his coach at mixing it up in martial arts and they felt 3-2 DDP like me. The hard graft for 25 mins by both men was insane but DDP take downs were reminiscent of GSP in Canada and although his strikes look awkward he is extremely cerebal and landed some beautiful shot that will shut the lights out on many men. Anyone calling that a robbery are massive D riders for SEAN.
Close-ish fight but Strickland should have got it: massively outstruck Du Plessis, did more visible damage, and when DDP managed to get him down he could do nothing at all and Sean got straight back up. The blood from the cut got in the way a bit and Strickland took his foot off the gas in the later rounds, but he looked far better than DDP the whole way through.
Agreed 100%. You should have to be dominant during the fight to take the belt away from the Champ. UFC wanted the Izzy vs DDP fight clearly and probably didn’t want someone like Strickland (a normal American the horror 😱) to remain Champ.

Sean didn’t have enough memorable moments in this fight. It was all jabs, not many big sequences from Sean. DDP was pressuring him, landing the bigger shots, cutting Sean’s face open and taking him down. Close fight, not a robbery.

And you're are actually wrong about the Criteria. A round is scored by Plan A- Damage if that's even THEN it goes to Plan B- Aggressiveness. If that's also equal then it goes to control. It isn't a combination of the three. It's either one or another. And also according to the Criteria TDs shouldn't be scored as points. It isn't considered as Effective Grappling.

I had Sean ahead. One judge -D'Amarta gave him the 3rd. The other two gave it to Dricus. Sean had more effective scoring hits I thought. But respect to both it was a tough contest and no problems either way.
I think DDP forward pressure with the striking outweighed Seans "significant strikes" going backwards. This is the difference in scoring between boxing and MMA. In Boxing you can win by being the matador, in MMA you cant really because of ring commandship criteria and certain biases like forward pressure, top position, etc. But yeah it was a close ass fight and is it right that Sean lost with doubling "significant strikes". DDP got 6 takedowns and forward pressure, also with the optics of the fight, impact of his strikes, etc. Im not mad at him winning it wasnt a robbery.

I had Sean winning then add sig strikes, damage & the fact he rolled out of so many off Ddp's strikes but bleeding & pressure sways judges even if shots r whiffed. Still close tho. Hence why finish is important but some x's u have 2 tough cookies that just aren't going away. Ddp definitely got swole up & didn't get a clear win for me but I do like the guy & he had a damn good 4th round. Would rather see a clearer win for a title taker but hey, congrats to that man.
Getting up quickly from a takedown should count at least as much as getting a takedown and arguably more since they are escaping a very dominant position with the opponent’s weight on top of them.
Judges love to score takedowns that amount to 0 damage these days 1 thing ill say despite being a cyclops ddp was the 1 coming forward in the fight mostly.. but for me Sean won run it back sum day 💥🇺🇸

Agreed 100%. You should have to be dominant during the fight to take the belt away from the Champ. UFC wanted the Izzy vs DDP fight clearly and probably didn’t want someone like Strickland (a normal American the horror 😱) to remain Champ.

Sean didn’t have enough memorable moments in this fight. It was all jabs, not many big sequences from Sean. DDP was pressuring him, landing the bigger shots, cutting Sean’s face open and taking him down. Close fight, not a robbery.
The Mike/Magny upset was absolutely insaaaane.

The low kicks were CHECKED and the amount of body shots were nowhere near enough to overcompensate the headshots that Dricus received.
And you're are actually wrong about the Criteria.
A round is scored by Plan A- Damage if that's even THEN it goes to Plan B- Aggressiveness. If that's also equal then it goes to control.
It isn't a combination of the three. It's either one or another.
And also according to the Criteria TDs shouldn't be scored as points. It isn't considered as Effective Grappling.

I had Sean ahead. One judge -D'Amarta gave him the 3rd. The other two gave it to Dricus. Sean had more effective scoring hits I thought. But respect to both it was a tough contest and no problems either way.
I think DDP forward pressure with the striking outweighed Seans "significant strikes" going backwards. This is the difference in scoring between boxing and MMA. In Boxing you can win by being the matador, in MMA you cant really because of ring commandship criteria and certain biases like forward pressure, top position, etc.
But yeah it was a close ass fight and is it right that Sean lost with doubling "significant strikes". DDP got 6 takedowns and forward pressure, also with the optics of the fight, impact of his strikes, etc. Im not mad at him winning it wasnt a robbery.
Good fight both tried their best.

1000%. And im pretty sure it was first time he went past 3rds(at least in ufc). I love sean, but i think in a rematch DDP would win pretty easily. He is at the stage where he gonna get exponentially better with every fight. Izzy has to get DDP next.

A little disappointing that we didn't get to see more reaction to the Evloev Allen fight since there is a very good chance Volk will fight one of them in the near future.
2 4 5 dricus r4 was huge for dricus and r5 Sean looked good for like last minute or so but dricus had way more pressure
I had Sean winning then add sig strikes, damage & the fact he rolled out of so many off Ddp's strikes but bleeding & pressure sways judges even if shots r whiffed.
Still close tho. Hence why finish is important but some x's u have 2 tough cookies that just aren't going away. Ddp definitely got swole up & didn't get a clear win for me but I do like the guy & he had a damn good 4th round. Would rather see a clearer win for a title taker but hey, congrats to that man.
Getting up quickly from a takedown should count at least as much as getting a takedown and arguably more since they are escaping a very dominant position with the opponent’s weight on top of them.
I just said this bro defending takedowns and getting back up shoukd count just like takedown do and have the ability to sway the fught
Judges love to score takedowns that amount to 0 damage these days 1 thing ill say despite being a cyclops ddp was the 1 coming forward in the fight mostly.. but for me Sean won run it back sum day 💥🇺🇸

I had that fight a Draw where this was very close but wouldn't call it a draw think DeSean did just enough but get how judges could come to the conclusion that DDP won but I agree with Dana
I guess that what happens sometimes with close ones.. Personally i thought you had to beat the champ convincingly if it's quite close... Great battle nonetheless, congrats to Dricus.
