My friends call me the stumpy of my group because almost all the cars I’ve owned I’ve broken. And my rustler is held together by ecx rear hubs with half the Traxxas link and ecx to extend it. Plus the fronts held together with cable ties
Thats a testament to just how durable the old rusty is. Those Traxxas models like the rusty/stampede/bandit got millions of people hooked! I probably have over 20 Traxxas rcs, and I still enjoy beating them, they just keep going!

Hey Kev, few tips on upgrades for that Rustler. First, the RPM camber links are extremely flexible, almost too flexible. You might want to start with stock Traxxas camber links and see how those work first. Also you might want to get the STRC hinge pin set for the Rustler. The STRC hinge pins are pretty much impossible to bend, and they are captured by a nut so you don't have to worry about screw pins backing out or eclips getting lost. Well worth the extra $20 imo.

Arjun Khakh I have a rustler it’s stock except for a new battery. It has the titan 12 in it and it can do a wheelie. with the normal battery it would not wheelie. I want to upgrade my rustler a lot so it can go fast like his.
I have an ftx colt and with a motor upgrade and a conversion from NiMH to lipo it is an absolute racer buggy.i have won many races with it and had no problem exept for a spur change a suspention rebuild and an upright change.ftx and arrma are the best companies for me
My biggest concern would be the lipo. Just charge up a lipo then spend 20 mins throwing it against a brick wall really hard.
Yeah I wonder how many lipos he has had catch fire. I wouldn't bring those things anywhere near my house lol
Traxxas Tested Talbot Tough. It's amazing how you could just snap a few things together and keep it running after multiple crashes!
Oh god... This reminds me of the time when the whole chassis of my HPI Firestorm split in half because of a harsh landing.
It reminds me of the time my rustler 4x4 vxl front wishbone snapped in half... and mine was stock!
Absolutely love the 2wd rustler. Wish Traxxas offered 2wd options for their higher tiered models!
2wd slash is alot more forgiving in the handling department. If you wanna get your 2wd skills up grab a cheap 2wd slash. The longer wheel base really helps keep traction on the front end
also having the tsm system could help a bit
Taking a 2WD Traxxas Rustler to the skate park, is like taking a Geo Metro to a drag race. I agree with you on 2WD's being harder to drive. Great video!!

Here's a idea try upgrading to a point where it's still fast but not to a point where it is undrivable. It's way nicer when you can go full throttle and the r/c doesn't turn into a bowlingball.
I only run my Rustler on 2s. As you pointed out, it becomes unstable above 2s. I don’t think your issue is lack of skill, it’s that too much power is being run through a vehicle that is super light weight and wants to do nothing but wheelies. Sure, 2s might be slower, but I feel it is more fun that way. Save the high power LiPo batteries for the 4WD vehicles.
Yeah 3s is bonkers on the 2wd rustlers lots of fun though if you put weights over the front so it doesn't wanna just flip over anytime you go above 1/3 throttle
When I had my rustler I put the stock slash 4x4 axles on it and they never broke

That thing looks like it has super hero cape on it when it flies through the air with the body loose. Lol I’ve got a ton of Traxxas and are a and wltoys. I still really like my rustler. I’ve slammed mine and put 1/8 scale buggy wheels and castle sidewinder 4 on it. Thing screams on 3s. 76 mph pb on 3s. A ton of fun lol. Good vid kev.
I've been using Zop power Lipo's on my cars and EDF jets... they really are a great battery. Punch out big amps and they're rather cheap too!! Poor rustler... At least we got to see JOEIIIII!!!

I know this is an old comment but in the rc hobby if somthing doesn’t break your not having fun I recommend searching up what the weak parts are and buying those as replacements

Rpm caster blocks just lead to bent king pins go with aluminum for those. STRC and Hot Racing make lock nut secured pin sets also no more e-clips and no more stock pins backing out.
A little tip Kev. Ditch the front hinge pins and put on the pins that screw on (like the rear ones). Saves a lot of headache when you need to replace an arm or anything that entails taking a front arm off.
Here kev, tip for filming in the rain. Stick your umbrella handle in a backpack, hands free buddy !!!!!

I have watched so many of your video's over the past few months and they are both educational and entertaining. This is one of my favorites because for some reason it just made me laugh my guts out. You effortlessly took a car that was badly damaged and keep it going. Your hobbled 2wd rc was extremely fun to watch as it attempted to hit the hill of death. 🤣

Mate and I have old vxl rustler's and they've copped a absolute hiding. We upgraded parts as they broke. Also best thing was putting a set of proline badlands off next size up rc and they've solved heaps of problems aswell as taking away the harsh noise they make when landing or crashing, aswell as crazy top speeds on anything. They almost just look like wheels. Shells had to be trimmed for wheel clearance and reinforced on inside with layer of foam and heaps of tape aswell as holding bodies on with tape layers around roof and bottom. When tumbling/crashing they sound like a rubber ball bouncing. Avagud1

I have the same problem with two wheel drive they just don't have enough traction I have a Traxxas Slash 4x4 1/10 and I am going to upgrade it with the Traxxas power up kit

I have the same car! I’m running a 3s lipo and all rpm parts, steel axels, proline street tires and trenchers and a proline gearbox. It goes 87 mph and has a death wobble I just can’t figure out how to get rid of so I never take it out anymore. I’ve made the same mistake and jumped it too high resulting in sooooo much carnage. After I made upgrades it’s always had the death wobble.
I drive 2WD all the time becuase it's the only rc I've got! I'll soon be getting an wltoys 144001 though, can't wait for the AWD goodness!!

I have a cobra Violence truck as well Kev I put his Sidewinder 3 and end with A550 hobby star motors 3500kv on 5000mah 50c.
My Rustler running very similar setup and is 2wd as well and find with 3s is stupid I'm running 2075x servo and the DumboRC Radio as well !!

I can't jump 2wd well either. That's why I robbed the electronics from my 2wd Stampede to build a 4x4 VXL Stampede.

2:28 why not just put that black backpack in front of it? Literally will save you hundreds of dollars in the long run if not more.
If u wanted to you could get a 4 or 5 inch wheelie bar to put on it and you might be able to keep it from flipping so much and to control the wheelies. Just an idea to help.

So so happy to see the rustler get some love my first hobby rc is the rustler vxl
I have a 2wd bandit converted to rustler brushed and the thing seriously breaks something like every time I run it. The spur gear strips out constantly so upgraded to a metal from plastic which was better but eventually broke some teeth also.
Then I have a brushless slash 2wd that’s way faster wreck it way more and harder and after upgrading to metal drive shafts just runs like crazy.

My rustler 2wd was my first hobby grade rc and i still love it
