    It must be said that I don't love this SGH-6 capsule. It has a ton of self noise and sounds way too bright to my ears, bordering on harsh. I dont recommend it.

      Audio for Content Creators hi , can you please give me some suggestions for my issue here with zoom h6 with Samsung phone .. how to connect directly zoom h6 to Samsung phone . Means , zoom h6 out cable as Samsung microphone input to enhance my video sound.. I tried it , but it’s not recording any sound from zoom h6 . Can you please give some suggestions..

      One thing to try would be to run your h6 into the phone as a USB mic. I've done this with an h5 on my Pixel 3a and it works well. It might not work well to run it into the mic input in your phone, since the mic input is not expecting the line-level output of your h6. Try usb. In my case I needed the usb out cord from the h5 and an adapter to run the other end into my phone. The trick is that that the phone must support USB microphones AND whatever recording software you use also must support recording from the external mic. But for me it works with the stock Pixel camera app.

    With a good set of headphones, the direct H5 sounds better. There's a noticeable distortion in the upper frequencies with the direct to camera setup. Thanks for doing this!

    Very relevant for what I'm seeking, thanks. Consider ping HDMI out from camera if available to HDMI into a nearby computer monitor. I was going to plunk down for a camera accessory monitor but thought I'd try the free and available option right on my desk and it works swimmingly well.

    On my X-S10 Fuji, the input can be set to mic or line. When set to line, there is no pre-amp being used and this is optimal as it allows the Zoom or other external recorder take care of the amplification and use the better pre-amps. If set to mic, the camera will then use it's pre-amp, even if you have it set to minimal settings and this isn't optimal as it'll still "touch" the signal and have an affect.

    great video! I was precisely looking for this info. I own a GoPro Hero 6 and the mic adapter and a Tascam DR-05x, and i've been thinking if it'd be better to record only on the Tascam and sync in post or use the Tascam and plug de out to the microphone input of the GoPro. Thank you, Brian!

    Have Zoom H5n with xy mic like it very much.Have not used other mics just yet. Trying some video nature field recording with Canon m50 and zoom h5n with audio cable. Thank you this video solved my question on setting the gain in the camera. Going with lowest setting to start. Now for my main recording music I record separate from camera. Prefer separate recording when possible. But direct through camera is reasonably ok

    Excellent video, I am looking at getting the H5 to fir onto my R5 or M6 MKII for videoing local bands performing. Now what I was wondering is, if I were to record a video for a couple songs and then switch to still mode for images, with the H5 still continue to record the audio, so that I can separate the tracks later on ?

    Hey Brian, I thought that running a line out from your field recorder ( I have a Zoom H2 ) to the mic input of your camera ( I have a Canon Vixia HF R800 ) was wrong. Is it a matter of adjusting the level of the camera, or the recorder? I want to record our musical duo/trios. I would think you'd want the recorder set to a good level for quality, and turn the camera way down?
    Former magician??????

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  Před 4 lety

      The line out is precisely FOR doing that. But you need to adjust the input level on the camera, and also the line out of the recorder, to get an appropriate level signal. And yes, I was a corporate event magician for nearly 10 years before becoming a speaker, author, consultant, etc.

    I'm currently using a Rode Videomic NTG directly plugging into my Sony A7c to record audio. Do I still need a recorder or preamp? Would there be a noticeable difference in audio quality? Thanks!

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  Před 3 lety

      Yes, there would be. But it's a convenience vs quality decision.
      Then again, if you're mounting the mic on top of your camera 3-5 ft away from you, it won't matter much.

    Can you use few mics simultaneously with this setup? I'm searching for the solution on how to record a sound with a shotgun mic plus 2 Sanken COS-11D. Each one goes to XLR input. Is it possible to record 3 mic's at once straight into the camera?

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  Před 3 lety +1

      Absolutely. You'll need a portable audio recorder with 4 XLR inputs like the Zoom H6n or H5 with additional XLR capsule. Then run a 3.5mm out from recorder into camera.
      Now, you'll sacrifice a lot. You won't be able to mix or level balance the individual tracks. You won't be able to process each track like EQ, compression, etc.
      You'll also end up with a noisier and lower quality recording, because 1) the camera's preamps are terrible, and 2) unless you're using a high end camera, consumer and prosumer cameras record internally at AAC, which is a highly compressed format akin to JPG, whereas your audio recorder can capture uncompressed WAV files, akin to RAW files.

    • @The22Century
      @The22Century Před 3 lety

      @@AudioforContentCreators Thank you Sir! I'm a noob at audio so this is really helpful! Most probably I'm gonna go for Sony XLR-K3M for run-and-gun shots and overall not very demanding scenarios. But for interviews I'll use Zoom H6 recording audio externally (no line out) and K3M for just a shotgun on a boom pole for a backup audio. I guess it's a much smarter and "pro" solution. Thank you!

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  Před 3 lety +1

      Happy to help! So, one option is to connect it with the 3.5mm to the camera but ALSO record on the H6. If you have time to edit in post, use the full res files from the H6. If you need a quick and dirty turnaround, use the audio you baked directly to the camera.
