Planting Low Population Soybeans

  • We've been lowering our soybean populations for several years. Here's a look at a trial I planted this spring as the beans emerge. They were planted as low as 40,000 per acre to as high as 200,000 per acre. Which is going to be most profitable? High or low population soybeans?

    Have any in season photos? How was the canapy of the 40k

    So your yield on the 40k was similar to the 200k and the 80k?

      Came about about even actually over the whole farm. Going to run it again this year.

    What depth do you planet your beans?

    Nice work. Maybe see if you get similar results with double crop beans if you have them this year.

      I have tried on double crop. It does not work which is suspected it wouldn't. Need more beans to get more pods when you plant that late. Usually plant 200k then. But we can get them cheap at that time.
