It would be nice to attach western dates to this for those of us not familiar with Japanese timelines.

i was under the impression that katana and tachi are functionally identical, with the only difference being the side of the tang the blacksmith signs on. tachi are worn cutting edge down, katana are worn cutting edge up, and so the smiths signed on different sides so their signature faced out when worn 🤔

    Very interesting🤩✨
My Dad has a couple of katana swords in Australia🇦🇺
I did karate a long time ago, and used 空手用のサイ。
Were these swords used as weapons?

Thank you for always leaving kind comments! They motivate me to create videos.
That's wonderful! I also want a Japanese sword. The sai seems to have been used in Okinawa in the past, but I don't know well. However, I'm getting interested, so I'll look into it!
Actually, I practice martial arts too, and I've been doing Kendo for over 10 years since I was a child✨

Yatsisuma? I apologize I am not sure of spelling.
    And his famous blade?
The oldest blade with no visible sharpening or polishing is usually a sogn of no use.
It most certainly was made so it could be used most cultures practiced this

You're absolutely right. Ancient swords were often used for rituals, dedications, and were created for the appreciation of nobility.

Dude, how the hell can you make a historical video without mentioning/notating years or date ranges to inform viewers of approximately how old these artifacts are?

Eearly mokusa blades of the Tohoku Region are ignored as usual.

Thank you for your comment. Do you know mokusa? In fact, Iwate prefecture, where Ichinoseki City, known for Mokusa swordsmith, is located, is my hometown. When I return home next time, I'll visit the museum covering Mokusa kaji, and share information with you!

Wow, that is interesting. I am just preparing an lecturem of the development of the soshu den. The mokusa smith play an more than important role in this. It can be said, that without the mokusa smith and the oshu fuhjiwara never an soshu den would have exist like we know ist. In the classic it hqs been said tha the Bizen ichimonji ( Sukezane ) and the Awataguchi from Yamashiro together with kunimune of Bizen are the fathers of this den. But how hard i try, this combination does not work. the result will never been the jihada and jigane of soshu as we know it from Shintogo and Masamune onwards. there must have been another trasditon. In olden time they said "Masamune tried to dubilicate Ko-Hoki" do not belive that. If one compares the early Mokusa workmanship in jihada and jigane it is more similar to earl Soshu than Ko-Hoki. One may ask why they ignored allway mokusa in the earlier times. the answer is simple. mokusa is based on emishi smith traditon. Oh babaric smith, they can not be teachers of the greatest toko the world has ever seen.. So they developed the ko hoki theory. I will hold the lecture in December in the samurai museum her in Berlin. REgarding Your kind offer, that wiould be fantastic, it is pretty hard to get information. Would say we keep in touch. @@HistoryofKatana
