In today’s haul, I found some very different but cool items at my thrift stores. It’s a must see. I love looking for unique items to use in my journaling. Thrifting is becoming one of my favorite places to look for junk journal items.

Your stuff will STICK in those albums! A lot of my childhood photos are ruined because of them. You can't get them out without tearing them.

Was about to say the same thing. By the way, I used dental floss to get photos out of the old albums. You gently ease the floss under one corner and slowly slide the floss to gently detach the photo. I re-did all my albums this way.
I totally want to play that Grand Hotel Escape game, ha ha. I love a good mystery. (Thinking of the movie Somewhere in Time. Takes place at the Grand Hotel. I just watched the movie again last week.) ❤

I love old cigar boxes. They are a cool piece of history. Personally, I wouldnt cover it up. Its History!! Great haul.

I think I’d be tempted to scan the matchbooks before doing anything else with them.

Somebody used the cigar box to keep their matchbook collection in. Cool.

All the restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. gave away those matchbooks as advertising for their establishments. Kept them in fishbowls by the cash register for their customers to take. Lots of people collected them. Those wedding favors were really popular too. Smoking was big back in the day. Fortunately, I never smoked, but my parents did. Mr grandfather smoked cigars. He used to take me to the Santa Anita horse racetrack in Southern California when I was growing up. I collected his betting tickets in one of his cigar boxes and opened my own bookie company, ha ha. I had big dreams, LOL. 😁

I just started watching your video and had to jump in on the album. I have tons of them from back in the day full of family photos (yes, I am vintage too, ha ha). Lots of the photos are stuck in them, so would not advise keeping your ephemera in them. Not acid-free, either. They are cute, though. I will now continue watching … 🙂

I LOVE the French cards. I recently found a vintage French dictionary and a French grammar book. I don’t have the heart to cut them up, ha ha. I should video my book finds.

The photo albums you bought are not so good for photos, but they might be Oak for ephemera if the font have a slick finish. You got a good haul.

I would guard against using the magnetic albums for storing your ephemera to use at a later date, the glue is strong and items will tear when you lift them off, I've learned from bitter experience 😢

Great finds! The adding machine paper rolls would be perfect for a snippet rolls. I love making snippet rolls. Great score on the flashcards. I especially love the French grammar cards. Thanks for sharing.

Keep the box.. you can decorate and fill it with ephemera. Postage stamps would be great. The box is great

Hi Maggie!! Cool finds. You should repurpose the box! By the way, be careful with the albums because whatever you put in there will stick and sometimes you cant get it out. We have alot of those with photos and they are permanently stuck 😮

Those sticky albums were very popular, they do get dusty and lose their stick and go yellow. I’m not sure where the magnetism comes in. We used to find them really annoying.

I don’t recommend these albums your articles will stick and you can’t get them off.
Totally agree - the surfaces stick and take layers off of whatever you "sandwich" in.
If you leave the surfaces stuck together, you could stick on some clear pockets, since the book as a whole is sturdy.
Agreed! I have one with my sticker collection I had as a kid and they are stuck in there! Lol. Have tons with pics from when I was a kid too and they are stuck in there. 😣
I agree. They’ll also turn your papers yellow. They are not archival safe.

@gapeach51170 No no, by no means. I was just saying because this video was posted quite a few months ago and I was told by so many NOT to use them. Glad everyone told me, otherwise I would’ve ruined my ephemera. I always appreciate the tips.
Please don’t use the photo album for your ephemera. It will ruin your items. They will stick. Also, why would you not keep the cigar box? There are people that pay big $$$ for them. Keeping the box doesn’t in anyway mean you approve of smoking.

I ditto a lot of the other comments. Those albums are not archival safe and you will ruin your items by putting them on the sticky pages and pulling them off.

those albums are horrible. all my photo from high school are in those eventually they fall off and everything turns yellow.
I’ve heard…I’m a little bummed. I thought I was making a cool storage for my ephemera and paper dolls and turns out everyone is telling me what a bad idea that would be. Luckily I hadn’t tried them yet. I just donated them back to the thrift store. Thanks for the tip.
Don't put your items directly on the page. Put down a piece of cardstock first and build from there...pockets, etc. DO NOT put pictures directly on the glue.
Thanks Laura, I was immediately stopped in the comments when this was first posted. I had seen others store their ephemera in those and thought that might be nice to be able to see exactly what I have with just a flip on the page, but oh well. I ended up donating them back to Goodwill. Lol
