Tom actually does(did?) a podcast in all Spanish, ‘Tom Segura en Español’, and he headlines shows in Spanish too!
He is currently working on releasing a double special where he does one in English and one in Spanish and they are two completely different sets. Dude is an absolute machine, unlike his best friend Bart Chrysler.

I'm Hispanic and while I was in high school in South Texas, one of my classmates had Segura as his last name. Yes, he was Hispanic as well. More specifically, we are both Mexican-American. Segura is not a very common name among Hispanics like López, Hernández, Rodríguez or García but every now and then I do stumble upon someone with that surname. As far as other famous people besides Tom that have the Segura surname, there is one actor from Spain who was in a movie with Javier Bardem and Rosie Pérez. His name is Santiago Segura. The movie is called Perdita Durango and it came out in 1997. As far as Tom's claim concerning the existence of White Mexicans, probably the most high profile one nowadays is the boxer, Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez...although it's more likely to see more European looking Mexicans in tv shows, primarily the soaps that air during primetime. Going over to Mexicans with Asian ancestry the best examples would probably be singer Ana Gabriel and former Government official Miguel Angel Osorio Chong...both of Chinese background. Actor Noe Murayama (deceased) was of Japanese background. As examples of Black Mexicans, I'd include singer Johnny Laboriel (deceased) and soccer player Adrián Chávez who was the goalkeeper during the late 1980s/early 1990s for one of Mexico's top flight teams, Club América. Mexicans of Middle Eastern descent would be Salma Hayek and billionaire/mogul Carlos Slim...both of Lebanese ancestry. And yes, all of these people from different ethnicities I mentioned were native Spanish speakers.

I took Japanese for two years, and I thought he was Japanese, until I saw him. Then I just forgot about it.
Then, I was telling a Japanese woman about Tom, just because we were talking about comics, and SHE asked if he was Japanese. So, this feels like something that Tom is probably not REALLY upset about, because it's a perfectly normal mistake.

When white people, like Tom or myself, ask or wonder, "what are you?" (which is NOT a great way to phrase that, true), we're just super aware of our whiteness and we feel like the person we're wondering about is "interesting," in a way. Like if we meet someone and find out they've been to space, or used to play professional football, or is a trained ballerina, or something. Robin Williams was like this, hyper-obsessed with his "otherness" when he was around black people or Latinos or Jews. It's something he found fascinating, all the different flavors of people there are.
Anyway, I would NEVER ask someone "what are you," but when white people do stuff like that, we don't mean any harm, we're just being innocently ignorant. Kind of like a toddler asking a guy in a wheelchair, "what happened to your legs?" Unless you're in Klan territory, if a white person wants to know about your ethnicity, and you tell them, they are most likely to shrug and say, "cool." Rather than, "git the hell offa mah property, you sumbitch."
That's not even the end of that skit. lol
